my past smothered
my life consumed
and the heat of it
soothed my soul

He was gone with blazing light
extinquished with the flames
His destruction
my salvation

He could no longer hurt me

The burns that scorched my skin
felt like kisses on my cheek
a promise of things to come
and the revelation
of a new beginning

I watched my misery drift away
with the breath of the wind
The smoke in the air
my new future unfolding

The destruction my emancipation
my life renewed
a renaissance awaiting.
