Ascends out of the ashes of insistent self

Immortal spirit
consumed in the blaze of matter,
the bird of poetry rises
reborn out of the flames of ego.

Intimate
with the duality of human nature,
with the yin
and the yang of creation,
Phoenix--
the poet's familiar--
ascends
fire baptized
out of the ashes of insistent self.

Strength,
power,
and spirituality
--all born from self-knowledge--
blaze prism-like
across the firmament of imagination.
