Searching for a present, in one-syllable words. |
| I went to the pet store to buy a small dog, but the store had no small dogs for me. They had a small hog and they had a small frog, but I said I'd not take them if free. They had an old cat, and a bird that could sing, but those were not high on my list. The cat was too fat, and the bird had one wing, so that was a sale the store missed. I went there to buy a new pet for my son, so I searched the place, both high and low. And way in the back I saw just the right one, so I asked the clerk, “what do I owe?” He stared at my choice, and gave me the eye. Then he asked me if that was a joke. I thought he was rude, but I asked the clerk, “why?” He said, “that thing's old, and might croak.” So I told him, “I've had it,” and walked out the door. I'd not buy a thing from that guy. And just down the street, I saw a toy store, where I knew I'd find just what to buy. Toy trains and toy trucks filled the shelves in that place, as well as a toy dog that talks. I snatched up the dog as a smile crossed my face, 'cause I won't have to take it for walks. |
