A Delightful Day

Walking in the park, usually one of my favorites. I love the park, birds, squirrels, other people who wave hello, but don’t start chattering (like my neighbors…) Today I had Susie, she’s my granddaughter.

I adore Susie, she’s five. I’d never brought her to the park before. I had her for the day while her mother was helping her own parents with a move.

We had gone through all the toys in my apartment pretty quickly. My next step would have been TV, but my TV was broken and since I usually watch re-runs, I’d been in no hurry to get a new one. (Tager’s was having a sale next week!)

Well, unexpected childcare threw me off, until I remembered the park! It was a beautiful day, we could walk the bridge, watch the clouds. I could point out my favorite things…

The first surprise for me was how fast Susie can run! I didn’t think I could run at all anymore, I was wrong, though my legs will suffer for days. The second was how many things people drop in the park… paper, trash, half eaten fruit… Susie picked up every one of them! In her defense, to put them in the trash. In my defense, with her bare hands…

I’d planned to walk the whole park. After fifteen minutes I was exhausted, physically, and mentally! And out of wet wipes… So, I fell back on sneaky Grammie mode.

“Let’s go get some ice cream!!” I yelled. She ran back to me like she was running a marathon!

Sitting at the table, after some required lunch, but after, having lovely ice cream for dessert! we got to talking. Susie told me all about school, her friends… her parents…

It turned out to be a very delightful day after all!
