A Tale of many pets

CARE, YOU SAY ?

In my life, it's true, I've had pets galore.
I can tell about nine, but there's been many more.

First was Attila, my 20-pound cat,
Impressively regal, he regally sat… and sat…

Impressively noisy was Blackbeard the parrot,
Whose salty language stressed me to hear it.

Then there was Arthur, King of All Frogs,
Who insisted his realm included All Dogs.

Speaking of whom, Maximilian and Priks,
Who claimed an impressive collection of sticks.

And of course the turtle,
I named him Myrtle.

And Peep and Pop, a pair of mice,
For whom I made a pair of houses - er - hice.

Now living deep in the woods as I do,
I've had deer friends, and crows, and a possum or two.

But once, God help me, I befriended a bear,
So chummy and cuddly I named him Care.

But Care didn't care if he broke my heart,
It was then I knew we'd soon have to part.

It was sad, but I said, “Enough is enough !”,
When he found and devoured all my Cocoa Puffs !
