Poetry from the viewpoint of an inanimate object.

Quit sticking flowers down my throat
and filling me with water.
I'm not a vase, I'd like to note,
just like I told your daughter.

She brought me home to decorate
the bookshelf in the den.
I'm true antique; just check my date.
I came from 1810.

My purpose was to impress folks
who cherish all things old.
But you must live by different strokes,
and don't know tin from gold.

Flowers look quite pretty, but
they don't need special vases.
The beauty of the blooms are what
puts smiles on people's faces.
