What Did He Say?

A Drabble (exactly 100 words) that includes the phrase "what was that?"

What was that? I'm hard of hearing, but some voices are pretty clear. And I'm pretty sure that guy just called me an ass.

After he said it, he just stared at me and shook his head. I don't know him, and I have no idea why he'd say something like that.

I've always thought of myself as a pretty nice guy. Not judgmental, not inclined to say anything bad about anyone. I suppose this guy now deserves it, but only if I can figure out why he said that.

Maybe I should just assume I didn't hear him correctly.
