Did you read Steppenwolf? I like the ending.

We seem to hail from different worlds
I from mine and you from yours
Is that then root of conflict? Source -
of mishap that befalls us?

I wish I could commit my dear,
to keep you close and keep you here.
But every time you draw to near
I give in to doubt and fear.

Which leads us here, concurrently.
Similitude, disparity,
and I do not regret my actions.
Hope befalls me future, us, the Lord and Spirits sanction.

Here again I sit alone
looking out over the River.
Thinking of the girls I've known
from whom I learned but in the end, to whom I could not deliver.

A love that lasts. A partnership.
Togetherness in darkness.
Wide and cold still bed at night,
but me different -- and I thank them.
