One of the times I discovered that anything is possible

I tried and tried
for years to make a pumpkin grow
from until late summer sighed
til' autumn showed its ember glow

One time I saw a bud that gave me hope
but pesky bugs made it a withering ghost
I didn't know how I would cope
not growing the thing I wanted the most

Last year when the pumpkin seeds were gingerly sown
I waited with baited breath
would a gorgeous gourd finally be shown?
or would the plants all meet their death?

I planted them early but feared they'd be scorched
I checked them every day with hopeful glee
would my hopes again be torched?
or would there be a surprise for me?

Then one morning a green ball caught my eye
was it from a watermelon seed?(I had planted them near)
I soon discovered I no longer had to try
and I almost cried a tear

For soon the green turned to orange so bright
my bucket-list plant did emerge
such a wonderful, beautiful sight
I'm glad I followed my urge

I kept trying and never gave up
even though I got discouraged
the Universe is an overflowing cup
all it takes is courage.
