My absence will never hurt anyone cause my presence never mattered

Unnoticed

My absence will never bruise anyone
because my presence never mattered.
I learned to take up less space,
to fold myself into corners
where no one would trip over my name.

I stayed too long in rooms
that never noticed when I went silent,
kept giving warmth to hands
that didn’t feel the cold without me.

I was there—
in the listening,
in the waiting,
in the loving without being seen.

But when I left,
nothing shifted.
No air changed.
No echo followed.

And maybe that’s the cruelest truth—
not that I wasn’t enough,
but that I was invisible
while trying so hard to be real.

Still, I wonder
if one day I’ll choose myself loudly,
leave without apologizing,
and finally matter
to the one who stayed the longest—

me.
