Good Again

“Don’t go out there.”

“Mom! It’s snow! I can finally try my sled!”

“Not yet…” Mom said.

“Not fair!” James yelled, “It’s perfect right now! The snow is waiting for me! There’s no school, I ate breakfast, I’ve been waiting ever since I got that sled for Christmas! I’m ready. The snow might melt if I don’t hurry up. Look the sun is out. It could melt any minute!”

“It’s too cold to melt that fast, it’ll wait for you.”

“Mom!”

“I’m serious. If you get busy, instead of arguing with me, you will get out there a lot faster.”

“Do I have to clean my room? I promise I will clean it later, or tomorrow! I promise!

“That’s not it, though I would like that. This is something shorter.”

“Shorter?”

“Yes, it will take time but not as much as cleaning your room. Cleaning your room might take weeks…”

“Well, I did put my dirty clothes in the hamper, some of them…”

“That’s not it either…”

“Well, what? What do I have to do so I can go outside? Whatever it is I’ll do it, I promise!”

“OK, you promised…”

“Is it that bad?”

“No, it’s actually very easy and you’ll be able to go outside as soon as you do it…”

“Yippee! What? I’ll do it right now!”

“Get dressed…”

James looked down on his body, it was covered with pajamas.

“And after clothes, then your ski pants, and your jacket and boots and gloves!”

James looked down, and then laughed! “Here I go!” he yelled as he ran back into his room.

“Nice job Mom” came a voice from the doorway. It was Dad. “I think I’ll go with him, as soon as I get rid of my pajamas!”

And suddenly life was good again.
