Flash Fiction

Good Again

Andrea came in carrying a net bag of groceries. Tina flinched.

They’d been roommates for years. They were so alike, they could have been sisters. Getting an apartment together just made life easier, and less expensive, for them both.

One of the things that worked so well was that Tina loved to cook, and Andrea was a wiz at keeping the apartment clean. In the years they had lived together so far, Andrea had never cooked even once. A peanut butter and jelly sandwich was her cookiest meal.

The bag that Andrea had did not contain peanut butter… it looked like salad supplies and some meat rolled up in white paper?

“What have you got there?” Tina asked.

Andrea didn’t even blink when she said, “Supper stuff!”

“Ah, that doesn’t look like peanut butter…”

“Funny,” said Andrea, “I know I should have called but I knew you were driving. We’re having company for supper!”

“We?”

“You and me and Braden and his roommate Andy.”

“You’ve only gone out with Braden once! Who is the roommate? Why didn’t you call me!”

“Because I knew you’d say no. You always stick to waiting for the right guy to come along. I think this guy is just your type. Give him a chance!”

Tina sighed, “And what did you buy for me to cook?”

Andrea handed her the bag, “They will be here in an hour, get busy!”

Tina cooked, but spent most of the time thinking of ways to drive Andrea crazy for doing this stupid move.

Of course, it was love at first sight for Tina and Andy. After all, that’s what love stories are about, right? Andrea on the other hand broke up with Braden a month later. But, in the end, she married a millionaire. Life was good again.
