The Party

Daniel and Sandy had finally gotten to the building. They were late, but not very. It was their friend Ted’s birthday. They didn’t want to miss the food and surprises, but felt quite sure the party had just started. His family was on the rich side. He’d told them it would be a lot of fun, but there would also be a lot of relatives there. More grown-ups than children. Apparently wherever his parents were from, a birthday party was a family deal.

They’d gotten directions from Ted’s brother, and got a little lost on the way. Finally, there, they went in. There were a lot of people already!

“Do you recognize these people? Anybody?” Sandy asked.

“No, but he didn’t invite many school kids because he was embarrassed about the whole thing. I don’t think it’s gonna be like our parties- games, cake and ice cream, watching the birthday boy get presents…”

“Well, he invited some more kids from school, and of course his brother…” They walked around more but didn’t see any of them.

When music began, Dan and Sandy got out of the way, still watching for Ted, but the dancing was really fun stuff! Eventually they got swept in, and they danced away, and sang to many of the songs, the ones they knew.

The food was “eat when you want” so there was no sitting where they could find Ted. But they were having so much fun, they actually stopped looking. They figured he’d find them eventually. He didn’t, but they knew they’d see him in school the next day and they could talk all about it.

Well… that never happened. It seems Ted’s party was on the other side of town… and Ted was a bit angry because they never showed up…
