"This isn't what it looks like,” said James

“What do you think it looks like?” Dad asked.

“Me sneaking cookies?”

“Aren’t those cookies?”

“Yes… but I was not sneaking.”

“What were you doing so quietly while I was watching TV in the other room. Something that ended up with cookies…?”

“I was getting them for Nova.”

“Nova is a dog.”

“Who likes cookies…”

“Well, Nova’s dish seems to have dog food in it. Why would you be giving Nova cookies in the middle of the day when she hasn’t even eaten her important food?”

“I was outside playing on the slide and I saw Nova…”

“And decided to feed her cookies?”

“No, I wondered what she was doing…”

“What was she doing?”

“She was looking at the wall of the garage.”

“Looking?”

“Well, it looked like she was looking, she wasn’t moving, so I wondered what she was looking at…”

“Did you find out?”

“Yes! She was looking a small rabbit who was right next to the garage wall! I tried to get Nova away, but she wouldn’t come, and the rabbit seemed very scared. So, I thought if I could get Nova to stop standing there the rabbit could go home, and the only thing that gets Nova excited is cookies. So, I came in to get some.

Dad was amazed at the story! It flashed through his mind that if James can think like this, he may grow up to be a wonderful writer! He didn’t want to break up this story by getting angry, so he decided to let it go.

“OK, let’s go see if Nova is still scaring the little rabbit!” Out they went.

Nova immediately ran over for the cookies! And, a tiny rabbit also ran like crazy, straight into the woods.
