Summary of this CDs & Vinyl...
The first Imagine Dragons album released after the divorce and new relationship of lead singer and songwriter Dan Reynolds, Loom explores his feelings in nine punchy tracks ranging from defiant to cheeky to tearful.
I especially liked...
The tongue in cheek “declaration of independence” of Take Me to the Beach reveals Dan's deep-seated introversion. Eyes Closed appears defiant and brave on the surface, but it reveals a brokenness and desire to run and hide from the world that I can relate deeply to. In Your Corner looms like an approaching sunset, with a promise of being there in the face of change, expressed in a hooky chorus that reminds me of Phil Collins.
I didn't like...
Nice to Meet You is an annoyingly produced party pickup song on the surface. Honestly, if it had been Maroon 5, I wouldn't have given it a second glance - or likely even a first one. It wasn't until I watched Dan Reynolds explaining the stories behind it on an official Genius video that I was able to tolerate it.
When I finished n/a this CDs & Vinyl I wanted to...
Write about it and share my thoughts and feelings with others. It was the first album I experienced alongside my WdC community, and the moments of listening, learning, and exploring my imagination were framed in stories and poems rather than art pieces.
This CDs & Vinyl made me feel...
Happy, sad, energized, intrigued. It fascinated me, amused me, made me laugh and cry and think.
I recommend this CDs & Vinyl because...
In only nine tracks, it covers a life's worth of experience, from navigating a breakup gracefully (In Your Corner, Don't Forget Me) to finding someone new (Nice to Meet You,) from exploring spirituality in the metaphor of an action movie (Gods Don't Pray) to mumbling, encouraging stream-of-consciousness self-talk (Kid.)
Further Comments...
Produced by Mattman and Robin, a Swedish duo with an ear for the weird, Loom has a punkish, modern, somewhat off-the-wall sound.
