Summary of this Book...
" A Texas Ranger teams up with a beautiful DEA agent deal to take down a deadly drug lord in this romantic suspense novella by a New York Times bestseller.

Out of danger and . . . into his arms

Undercover DEA agent Kelly Sloan was tasked with taking down Mexican druglord Dominic Ortega, but when her cover was blown, she barely escaped with her life. After being taken out on his yacht and tortured for information, she literally leapt at the chance to escape overboard, figuring death at sea was better than death at the hands of her vicious captor. But fate had something other than death in mind for her.

Texas Ranger Quinn McCord was dealing with problems of his own, so the last thing he needed was a gorgeous, nearly naked woman with a shady past. And before the unconscious beauty on the beach even came to, he knew she was either trouble or in trouble—maybe both—because the men patrolling the shallows with a speedboat and binoculars weren’t tourists out for a day’s fishing. His finely honed instincts told him that she was their quarry, and that he had to protect her and find out what was really going on.

If Kelly was shocked to find herself waking up in the arms of a handsome stranger, Quinn was no less surprised to discover that his damsel-in-distress was a very capable agent who’d quite possibly killed the infamous Dominic Ortega before getting away. Unfortunately for them both, Ortega hadn’t died. Instead he’d put a two-million-dollar bounty on her head and sent his army of killers-for-hire in pursuit.

Now Kelly and Quinn are both the pursued and the pursuers as they try to stay alive long enough for Kelly to testify against Ortega—and for the two of them to follow up on the once-in-a-lifetime attraction neither one of them wants to fight.

Further Comments...
I love most of Sharon Sala's writing, so when I received a notice that this book was on sale on May 1st, I checked the title on my list of books read, saw that it wasn't there, and then bought it. Unfortunately, I missed the part that said it was previously published under a different title as part of a collection. I didn't realize this until I was wondering why the book seemed so familiar though. It's good that enough time had passed, though the more I read, the more things came back to me, so it wasn't really surprising how all the twists and turns kept coming. I think for a first read though, it'd be very exciting.

I did love the heroine's character. She was tough, smart, quick-thinking, and as capable and brave as any action hero.

I also liked the range of emotions I experienced reading this book. Along with all the normal ones that one expects to experience with a romantic suspense book, I actually laughed out loud at one point. I also felt very sad at the death of one character.

There were a lot of twists and turns, though I think even if it was the first read, some would have been predictable. Still, even on this second read, I was interested enough to read it straight through, without switching to other fiction books in between (which is what I do when I get bored with a book).

The romance part wasn't her best, but it was okay. As usual, I didn't read the sex scenes for personal reasons, so I can't comment on those, but the heroine and hero definitely had chemistry.

There was one thing that was outrageously ridiculous to me... Spoiler alert, skip the next paragraph if you're going to read the book.

Though I guess someone has to be the President's daughter's BFF... it felt like she really had more story to give but had to cut it short with this easy solution (I'll just call my friend and have her call my dad and he'll save us... and she did and he did and then everything gets wrapped up nicely). I would rather this ingenious heroine have made her own way there, but I suppose connections are important too.

This version of the book was published in 2015, though I don't know when the original version was published, it had to be before that.

As of 9:27pm on May 5, 2025 it was doing pretty well on the Amazon best seller's list. Here are the stats from that time:
"Best Sellers Rank: #17,638 in Kindle Store (See Top 100 in Kindle Store)

#67 in Police Romance
#378 in Supernatural Thrillers (Books)
#702 in Crime Thrillers (Kindle Store)"

Probably the sale boosted the ratings, but even taking that into consideration, I think it's still great placement. Those categories all have a lot of competition.

As of the same time that I took the bestseller ranking information down, I noted that the book has 697 reviews averaging 4.4 stars on Amazon and 462 reviews averaging 4.2 stars on Goodreads.
