Shadow Falls is the first book in the series featuring Madison Harper and Nate Monroe. They are private investigators who strive to put wrongs, right. They're also two people brought together by the wrongs they had dumped into their lives — they were both accused of murders, neither committed. Madison spent six years in prison before being proven innocent, and Nate spent seventeen years on death row before he was finally proven innocent, just months before his execution date. Their shared experience of injustice adds depth to their characters and the layers of the story.

Nate is an ex-priest-to-be, whose heart has still stayed loving and caring. But he still has a haunting determination to find his ex-fiancée's murderer. He may not know where he is, but he certainly knows who he is! His ex-fiancée's uncle, Father Connor. The tension between the two is thick as sludge. Not only did Father Connor set Nate up, but now that Nate is free, he won't leave him in peace. All Nate wants to do is find him and end him!

Madison is an ex-cop who not only lost her freedom but also lost her ten-year-old son. She hasn't seen or heard from him since she was put into prison. Now that she's out, no one in authority will tell her where he is, and no one else seems to know.

Nate and Madison's first investigation together is to find a little girl who went missing at night from Summer Camp. There seems to be a web of secrets revolving around her disappearance, and seemingly no clues. Madison and Nate will have to dig deep beneath the surface to try and find answers, and who is not being completely honest.

These two damaged, yet determined characters, add emotional depth to a fascinating story that is full of layers and suspense with twists and turns. Just when you think you have it figured out, something new comes along that blows it out of the water!

This is an unpredictable story filled with redemption, trust, and struggles. It'll keep you turning the pages, and when you're done, you'll be eager to continue reading by grabbing Book Two in the series!

There really wasn't anything about this book I didn't like. The only thing I can think of is that the backstories may have gotten dragged out a bit. But not enough to put me off of the story at all.

It has a fascinating, multi-layered story, as well as characters. It's well written.
