Ifemelu and Obinze have been together since school days. Growing up in Nigeria. Destined to be together until the end of time.

Until Ifemelu moves to America. Obinze winds up in England. They are determined to stay in touch until they can one day reunite. Ifemelu, through a set of circumstances and desperation, does something that cleaves Obinze from her life.

Long years pass. The couple are reunited in Nigeria. But has life changed them too much to be together again?

A deep dive into the life of a Nigerian woman, both in her native country and in America where she calls herself a Non-American Black.

This book provides a great perspective on race in America from the POV of a black woman who is part of it by virtue of the color of her skin but also apart from it because she was not born in America.

I loved her blog posts, detailed at the end of most chapters.

It was a little long in spots. The details were great, but some of the conversations dragged on.

Like I had a good understanding of her point of view especially when it came to race issues.

Books that grab and hold my attention are always aces in my world. I will read other books by this author.
