The Original 1897 Classic is an adventure into a world of horror and mystery that the towns people responded with fear, mistrust, and efforts to ride the town of the frightening unknown threat.

A stranger enters the town covered by a long coat, a hat, and bandages covering his face completely hide his identity. Entering an inn his appearance causes patrons to be horrified, shocked, and mistrust this strange and fear raising figure.

He obtained a room demanding complete privacy and solitude requiring no invasions. His cases of chemicals and beakers are carried to his room and he proceeds to work diligently with his concoctions. All of these activities are alarming to the people who witnessed his entrance and cases.

Burglaries eventually begin to occur all over town. Strange events happen as people become aware of the unusual events. They ban together and try to find out what and why their town is experiencing such frightening and unusual things randomly happening.

The chase continues as more people gather and eventually the mystery is solved.

People who like a good mystery with a chase of the perpetrator and crime events will appreciate this story. The scenes are nicely detailed and the reader gets to know the places.

The plot is good because it has a variety of characters, events, personalities, and a good track down the perpetrator mystery of who is this and what are they doing.

The book is well written but it took me a little while to get into the story because for me it seemed to have a slow start before the action was evoked.

I want to read more books by H. G. Wells.

I felt like I was in the story, had met the people, and was a part of the investigation.

H. G. Wells wrote a story that I enjoyed because of his writing voice, the mystery was unfolded gradually bring suspense into the plot, and it moved along at a good rate.

Mysteries and adventure are shown through the characters and their actions. I like getting to know people and this book introduced me to a spooky character and a town of people who let fear and self preservation drive the story to it's conclusion.

If spooky is not your thing, then over look it for a unique journey into mystery and thrills or find another book, but I think it is worth reading.

I can still picture in my mind a lot of the scenes, character descriptions, and props. This story is still playing in my mind. It is a classic that I thoroughly enjoyed.
