| We’re introducing something completely new to Writing.Com: Sheets (Beta)! Sheets are collaborative spreadsheet-style items that now live right inside your Portfolio. You can use them to organize information, track projects, plan stories, manage submissions, build logs, create charts, collaborate with groups, and a whole lot more. This has been a major project built entirely in-house from scratch specifically for Writing.Com, and we’re really excited to finally put it into your hands. What Can You Use Sheets For?  Word count tracking Story bibles and planning Character relationship grids Contest scoring Submission tracking Schedules, lists, logs, and charts Collaborative group projects
Some Features Included Multiple sheet tabs within a workbook 200+ built-in formulas and functions Real-time collaboration with live editing indicators Charts and data visualization tools XLSX and CSV import/export support Undo/redo, comments, notes, merged cells, freeze panes, and more WritingML support directly inside cells
Who Can Use Sheets? Creating and editing Sheets requires an Upgraded Membership or higher. Upgraded Members: 10 Sheets Premium Members: 25 Sheets Premium+ Members: 50 Sheets Sheets shared with Group Edit Access can also be collaboratively edited by group members. How Do I Create One? Click + Create Something and choose the new Sheets item type. If you don’t see it immediately, refresh your page. It’s brand new. 😊 This is a Beta Sheets are already very functional, but this is still a beta release and we fully expect to continue refining and improving things as members begin using it in real-world ways. You now can create and use custom colors and highlights in the Editor. The updated color picker lets you pick custom colors and pin your favorites. You also get a new "Recent" colors line... (If you find the recent color line adds too much color clutter, you can disable it via the  -> "Bars" menu.) Type in your own colors or choose from the picker  Screenshot of the color picker  Drag your favorites, plus most recently used Please use this responsibly. TIP: Harsh color combinations can sometimes be difficult to read, so make good choices if you want people to actually read what you write.  A couple quick notes: The pinned color palette is only available on Desktop. In addition, pinned and recent colors are both stored in your browser's on-device storage, not on your WdC account. That means if you switch browsers or devices, your recents and pins don't follow you. If you run into problems, please let us know at "Bug Reporting" ! Enjoy! |
| Our new Messenger has been completely rebuilt from the ground up and brings a much more modern, flexible, and user-friendly way to connect with other members. So how do you access it? You’ll now see “Messenger” in your left-hand navigation. Click the word to open the full Messenger system right on your screen. From there, you can view conversations, start new ones, search messages, and access your settings. You’ll also notice a small “+” next to Messenger. That lets you launch a popup version of the messenger or open chats in their own window. Three Ways to Message You can now choose how you want to chat with other members: Messenger Bar (Desktop)Keep conversations open along the bottom of your screen while you browse. Drag, minimize, or expand chats as needed. You can have multiple conversations open and switch between them easily. Full Messenger ViewAccess all conversations, search, settings, and message tools in one clean, organized space. This is what opens when you click “Messenger” in your navigation. Popup WindowOpen a conversation in its own window so you can move it anywhere on your screen. This is perfect if you like to keep a chat open while working elsewhere on the site. New Features You’ll Notice Right Away A built-in mini editor with formatting options like bold, colors, fonts, and more Reactions you can add to messages with a click or tap Built-in Giphy support for quick, expressive replies Cross-tab syncing, so your messages stay updated across multiple tabs Search your conversations to quickly find past messages
More Control Over Your Conversations We’ve also made big improvements to privacy and messaging control. Click the Settings button (gear icon) inside Messenger to customize who can start conversations with you. You can set rules based on membership level, favorites, or group connections, and combine those however you’d like. You can also create a personal block list that overrides everything else. Within any conversation, you can close the thread with someone at any time. This stops new messages without requiring a full block, and you can reopen it later simply by messaging again. A Much Better Mobile Experience Messaging on mobile has been completely reworked to feel smoother and more intentional. It is faster, easier to use, and much more in line with what you would expect from modern messaging. Updated Message Chatting The new chat system (previously Scrolling Messages) has also been improved. Conversations now flow naturally from top to bottom, and the pop-out view gives you more control over layout and sizing. You’ll also notice integrated chat features like games, scoreboards, and live activity, all built right into the messaging experience. This was a large update that touches many parts of the site, and while we have tested it thoroughly, your feedback is incredibly helpful as we continue to fine-tune things. MORE Writing.Com UPDATES! Account Settings has been revamped with a new look and a search system. All the settings have been reviewed (more or less), with old unused settings now removed, plus outdated settings were updated or fixed where needed. Two new settings: Font Size: You can now increase the base size of fonts across all of Writing.Com. For those that need larger fonts for their own visual comfort, this is the BETTER option than increasing your {size} when posting. Also, a note for people who post large font sizes already: you're going to push away the readers that use this new Font Size setting because your fonts will be GIGANTIC. So please reconsider using such large font sizes when you post. Security Questions: Under the new "Security" tab in your Account Settings, you'll find you can add 3 security questions to your account. These may be used to help you restore access to your account in the event of a lost password or other login issue. Be sure to use secure answers that are not easy for someone else to guess or find. Security answers are not case sensitive and must contain at least 6 letters and/or numbers, with a maximum length of 32 letters and/or numbers. Answers may include letters, numbers and any special characters. Writing.Com stores your answers in a one-way hashed format that we can not read. If your answers are needed later, you must enter them as provided here for hashed comparison.  New for MOBILE...The header bar is now "smart". When you're deep down in a page, you no longer have to scroll all the way back to the top to get the header navigation. Just give it a "quick scroll up" and the header will appear. Slowly moving back up the page, it assumes you're reading, so no header appearance. But when you quickly scroll up, it will guess that you're looking to get to the top bar and give you the header right there. Scroll back down and it hides itself. Plus... we did some mobile cleanup for the email list view, and some other small tweaks abound. As always... Virtual Dice Got a Major Upgrade This one got a big modern glow-up and opens up a lot of fun possibilities: Roll numbers, custom lists, or coin flips Use WritingML in lists ({item:}, {user:}, and more!)
