BC Prompt:We all have those days.... you know the ones where you bite your tongue more times than not

What's this got to do with the prompt?!
Well, one reason I'm broke, no joke, is because I take staycations twice a month to GET OUT THE HOUSE! I need my own space, but I can't afford it because I'm a big spender and I mostly spend money on ways to escape the small house I share with 2.5 people. #Catch2022

"Spiritual Newsletter (April 13, 2016)

I've been saying this for years! I meditate all the time and my prayer life had gotten better b/c I approach it like meditation and not just "please bless this and help me with that". I even titled my blog 'reflections' for this reason, it could just as easily be 'meditations.

In regards to the "Spiritual Newsletter (May 15, 2013) comment: I started writing this part of my story (hidden somewhere in the recesses of my blog, see "Chapter ?: Waking Up) but haven't finished. I do however have at least one short story based off part of my experience; "Getting To Know You

BC Prompt: What do you feel is the greatest love story in literature? How did the author hook you into the story? If you aren't into love stories, pick your genre and answer.

That's a tall order! Only 'Romance' I read is the Argeneau vamps and that's paranormal awesomeness. I LOVE the dynamic between Kate Daniels and her lion shape shifter hubby, very realistic (as far as human relations go; magic, not so much). But both of those are set in fantastical worlds.

First thing to pop in my mind and stick is the 'love' between a parent and child. Just recently listened to Precious by Sapphire; and for her to learn to love herself through loving her incest children...incredibly powerful.

Hetero love, I just can't get away from Romeo & Juliet. I hate the whole suicide thing, but if you alter it and imagine them physically fighting for their rights and dying in battle; then it truly would be the greatest story.

I'm not a Nicholas Sparks uber-fan so I don't believe it's the Notebook (great movie and premise [Alzheimer's SUX!] but I've heard news stories where one spouse has to give up their job AND donate a kidney to keep their lover alive, THAT'S romance).

The Fault in Our Stars might be after Romeo and Jules, because they were so young...and they were obsessed with a book.

Mental Illness  (E)
Why public awareness has been failing and how to address it.
#2080540 by MelanKoliK Ben

Review of "Mental Illness"

This, among other notes I've read today, reminded me of how some people viewed my own meltdown not too long ago.

Most were very understanding, some just simply ghosted and waited in the wings for me to pass, others outright did not want to be associated in any form.

I didn't take anyones reaction personally. Mainly b/c I was busy putting myself back together, but also because I know and understand myself better than many people know themselves.

I accept my flaws and limitations and strive to strengthen my weaknesses on the daily.

Until the majority of this nation can relax the ego there will always be at least a slight stigma to mental health; just as there is to obesity and poor socio-economic standing [poverty].

BC Prompt: “It's the sides of the mountain that sustain life, not the top.” Robert M. Pirsig
Interpret this quote in any form or style you wish.

Using this in my next book!

Basically it says to me that while the top (1%), financially, benefits the most, they would be nothing without the rest of us.

----
Note to self: Was updating my notepad to include a list of "People to look out for/Buy stuff/tickets for:" and the first word that came to mind was 'charity'.

I hate that I feel weird titling this 'Charity'. Why is 'Charity' such a 'bad'/'insulting' word for some people? I think it's a bad idea to perpetuate b/c it infers that those receiving charitable donations are somehow...suffering. When really it's just nice people doing things for other nice people.

So, as I often do when I need to remember the intrinsic meaning of a word, I went to Google (the new dictionary):
1.the voluntary giving of help, typically in the form of money, to those in need.

synonyms: financial assistance · aid · welfare · relief · financial relief ·
[more]

2.an organization set up to provide help and raise money for those in need.

synonyms: nonprofit organization · voluntary organization ·
[more]

3.kindness and tolerance in judging others:
"she found it hard to look on her mother with much charity"

synonyms: goodwill · compassion · consideration · concern ·
[more]

I figure since 2/3 dealt with NEED, I can comfortable say, that while I THINK everyone "needs" support and community friendship, those in question may not feel they 'need' it. So I changed the list title to "Goodwill" ;-D

Roses: What Color Should You Give and How Many? Tell us about the first time you received roses or gave someone roses? How did you feel?

I don't remember the first time I ever got roses but I do remember the first (so far only) time a guy came to my door with flowers. My best friend and I had got into our biggest (and only real, that I can remember) fight. Don't remember what it was about but I know I laughed through it while he just got madder and madder and our other guy friend was driving and crying (he hated confrontation) and the quote of the night was C yelling at M to "take me home!".

He was so freakin sweet when he came back by later that night with a fresh bouquet of M&M flowers. I think they were white daises that had been grown in different food-colored water. It was like a movie, don't even remember what I did 'wrong' and don't think I even felt bad about the fight at the time but all that went out the window and I felt compelled to apologize just because of his gesture. Behold, the power of a ...palm leaf? Whatever means peace.

Ended up reading the following after big cuz Shereece decided to use what I wrote when the fam asked her to represent the grandchildren. They never told us they only planned for one (then two, me and her) to go up there. I made sure all the grand-kids present plus Josh Stovall was up there. I wanted them up there, they wanted to be up there and I needed them at my back. It was tough at times but it was also joyful and overall came out great. Of course I ad-libbed and rereading this now I see quite a few imperfections but that's just my writers mind:

Yes, I am mourning the loss of Emma Nancy (Age 85 blessed years).
Yes, I am in pain right now.
BUT JOY cometh EVERY morning and my cup runneth over!
When I mourned my father I cried for myself and all the moments lost. In this instance, I cry for my family.
I see our family as a Fortune 500 company and we all just lost a Co-CEO/CFO/COO but the Emma Nancy branch of this great family tree/mega corporation also lost our department head.
I need to step-up.
WE need to step-up.
We ALL need to communicate better if we truly desire for our company to be prosperous. Don't you hate it when your money is funny?
This family business deals in Emotional, Mental and Spiritual currency every time we open our mouths.
We LOSE said currency whenever we: 1. communicate ineffectively, 2. refuse to acknowledge our own shortcomings and limitations, 3. whenever someone says "That's not my job.", 4. somebody quits (because you cannot be fired from this establishment, ever).
New positions are opening up. It's my prayer that we all heed the call.
I look forward to my new and/or improved position. Just give me a 90 day probation to learn the ropes tongue emoticon
I love you all and would like to send a mega-thank you to all family members who do their job and still manage to cover the duties of other co-members.
We have to communicate more openly and effectively to prepare for battles such as these. Only a fool attempts to fight a physical war without any preparation or armor. What makes us think Spiritual warfare is any different?
My Granny is at peace and so am I. Don't worry Granny, we got this!

Candice may out perform in other tasks, even Leroy admitted he understood after he did the task. Vince seems to be a near copy of Bananas so the liability should cancel out if Bananas can reason with him. Shane was just pissed at Tony, rightfully so, Tony's more a liability than him. Nicole probably takes 2nd place in terms of 'blow-up waiting to happen' but like Bananas, Nany may be able to curb tail her before things get out of hand. Brianna on the other hand....yeaaaaaaa. Just the fact of that one clip about her talkin' crap about her OWN bloodline! I've never seen Jenna lose her cool, even when she lost last season cuz of her teammate! It's not looking good for Ms. Jenna, but hey she gained way more of my respect for gettin the pit done!

Prompt: Season 2 Episode 7 - Comic Sans

Defining Capitalism, Communism, Fascism, Socialism

Caveat: There are some inherent pitfalls trying to offer simple, bite sized definitions of capitalism, socialism, communism and fascism – the first being that these are complex concepts concerning both economics and government, so short definitions will be incomplete; the second being that these concepts are not always mutually exclusive (most modern states combine elements of more than one); the third being that historical states defined the terms differently; and finally, some of the terms refer strictly to economic systems (capitalism) while others (fascism) also refer to government and economic systems (communism and fascism).

For a point of reference, the United States is a Constitutional Democratic Republic that has long embraced both capitalism (free markets) and socialism (public schools and universities, and public works – parks, roads and highways, sewer and water, dams, harbors, as well as social welfare, such as worker’s comp, unemployment insurance, social security etc.).

Capitalism
In common usage, the word capitalism means an economic system in which all or most of the means of production are privately owned and operated, and the investment of capital and the production, distribution and prices of commodities (goods and services) are determined mainly in a free market, rather than by the state. In capitalism, the means of production are generally operated for profit.

In a purely capitalist economy, there would be no public schools, no state owned or maintained roads and highways, public works, welfare, unemployment insurance, workers compensation, Social Security benefits etc.

Socialism
Most generally, socialism refers to state ownership of common property, or state ownership of the means of production. A purely socialist state would be one in which the state owns and operates the means of production. However, nearly all modern capitalist countries combine socialism and capitalism.

The University of Idaho, and any other public school or university, is a “socialist” institutions, and those who attend it or work for it are partaking in socialism, because it is owned and operated by the state of Idaho. The same is true of federal and state highways, federal and state parks, harbors etc.

Communism
Most generally, communism refers to community ownership of property, with the end goal being complete social equality via economic equality. Communism is generally seen by communist countries as an idealized utopian economic and social state that the country as a whole is working toward; that is to say that pure communism is the ideal that the People’s Republic of China is (was?) working toward. Such an ideal often justifies means (such as authoritarianism or totalitariansim) that are not themselves communist ideals.

Fundamentally, communism argues that all labor belongs to the individual laborer; no man can own another man's body, and therefore each man owns his own labor. In this model all "profit" actually belongs in part to the laborer, not, or not just, those who control the means of production, such as the business or factory owner. Profit that is not shared with the laborer, therefore, is considered inherently exploitive.

Fascism
The word descends from the Latin ‘fasces’, the bundle of sticks used by the Romans to symbolize their empire. This should clue you in that Fascism attempts to recapture both the glory and social organization of Rome.

Most generally, “a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.”

Unlike communism, fascism is opposed to state ownership of capital and economic equality is not a principle or goal. During the 1930s and WWII, communism and fascism represented the extreme left and right, respectively, in European politics. Hitler justified both Nazi anti-Semitism and dictatorship largely on the basis of his working to fight-off communism.

The church also played a major role in all of the European fascist countries (Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal) as the authority on religious and moral issues, which was opposed to the threat of "godless communists".

Mussolini, the Italian father of Fascism, writes that: “..Fascism [is] the complete opposite of…Marxian Socialism, the materialist conception of history of human civilization can be explained simply through the conflict of interests among the various social groups and by the change and development in the means and instruments of production.... Fascism, now and always, believes in holiness and in heroism; that is to say, in actions influenced by no economic motive, direct or indirect. And if the economic conception of history be denied, according to which theory men are no more than puppets, carried to and fro by the waves of chance, while the real directing forces are quite out of their control, it follows that the existence of an unchangeable and unchanging class-war is also denied - the natural progeny of the economic conception of history. And above all Fascism denies that class-war can be the preponderant force in the transformation of society....

After Socialism, Fascism combats the whole complex system of democratic ideology, and repudiates it, whether in its theoretical premises or in its practical application. Fascism denies that the majority, by the simple fact that it is a majority, can direct human society; it denies that numbers alone can govern by means of a periodical consultation, and it affirms the immutable, beneficial, and fruitful inequality of mankind, which can never be permanently leveled through the mere operation of a mechanical process such as universal suffrage....”

A Note On Morality: Capitalism and socialism are essentially a-moral* terms: they simply refer to economic systems – who owns what and how capital is exchanged – regardless of any other type of moral principle or goal. Communism and fascism, on the other hand, refer to both economics, governance, and basic moral principles: that is to say they refer to overarching ideas about how people should live (rather than describing how people do business), so they imply a total ideology: a morality, an economy, a government.

* A-moral simply means neither moral or immoral. A rock is a-moral. Driving a car is usually a-moral. Killing someone with a rock is usually immoral. Driving drunk is immoral.
