I wrote this initially after Columbine...now there's been more killings at yet another school...when will it end? Where will it end...and bottom line....

Coffins still remain...

When kids are killing children
and there are bombings in the schools
when the chaos threatens close to home
like a flame to sitting fuel....

then

some people point a finger
with an easy source of blame,
yet when the dust has settled....
the coffins still remain.

When bombs are exchanged
because a dictator has his say,
the end result becomes a war
it's always been this way......

and

some people point a finger
with an easy source of blame,
yet when the dust has settled
the coffins still remain.

When lovers fight and emotions rise
until someone starts to bleed,
and rational decisions flee
in the wake of pain and need

When a child is abused
it matters not if mind or heart,
the pain's the same and lasting
'till a body search they start

and

some people point a finger
with an easy source of blame,
yet when the dust has settled
the coffins still remain.

There are no easy answers
to the thoughts that I have raised,
but shifting blame from near to far
cannot be the way

for

some people point a finger
with an easy source of blame,
yet when the dust has settled
the coffins still remain.

Some people point a finger
with an easy source of blame,
yet when the dust has settled
the coffins still remain.......

amazingly, I'm wide awake considering I pulled an all nighter at work...driving home I had to drop off some paperwork at another store and find out that one cashier who gave me all the trouble is telling folks that she's going to be my assistant manager.....NOT! Not that she has the flexibility to work 2nd shift or has transportation or a babysitter or my endorsement lol....oh is she ever in for a rude awakening!!!!!! Looking like my store will be opening in a week!!! Oh yes!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm involved in the auction that IamMark is doing and no one is bidding on me :( In fact basically none of we women are being bid on...and, frankly, that sucks bigtime as it is all for fun and to raise gps for RAOK! Grrrrrrr!!!! Please go check it out at "Invalid Item.

Have you checked out the Gazebo Graphics yet? Please check it out!!! "Invalid Item We have new stuff appearing daily! I tossed it over to Ter to manage... I simply haven't the time...and she does it sooooo well! It was her birthday yesterday! Looks and sounds like she had a great time and enjoyed the Birthday Forum that Highwind and I set up for her...actually, Highwind did most of the work, but it was from us still and all.

On the BIG NEWS front.....Extra EXTRA...Read all about it!!! My youngest daughter (the one in the US Navy serving aboard the USS Ronald Reagan) just won the Navy's Hightest Journalism award for new articles!!! She now goes on to complete for Military Wide Recognition amoung the other four branches!!! Way to go Kiddo! *grin* Me??? Proud Mom???? MOI????? Damn Straight I am *grin*

Guess what!!!!! Me and two of the best graphic designers around have opened "Invalid Item and I am so excited!!

New job is going well, got the low down on the 'attitude chick' and know exactly how I'll handle her. Should work and it should keep everyone happy!

Sorry this is soooooooooooooo short but there's a bunch of folks waiting on the results of my contest and I have a BUNCH of reviews to write and now that I've got a map of the village up at my contest, I have to fix it cause right now, LORNA's house is hiding behinda tree and I need to move a tree or something! Oppps!

PS I love my car!!!!!

SNOW!!!! Ick!

Got a question for folks. I've been told by my district manager that the two people kept from the old store (pre-remodel) that are there at my discretion.

I met one of them today at the store I'm doing my manager training at.

Now, I am a firm believer in first impressions. Altho I will give people the benefit of the doubt...up to a point. Second chances are a good thing.

Strike 1. When meeting a boss/manager/ type person, I was always taught a firm handshake is a good measure of the type of person one is dealing with. Male or female, that a wimpy, 'I've felt fish more alive than this' handshake says nothing positive.
So I shook this employees hand and ick....dead, dead, DEAD fish.

Strike 2. She reaches over and flicks a finger at the scarf I am wearing. Company uniform being yellow shirts, black pants and a scarf or necktie. Me, I think scarves for women and ties for the men. Looks sharp and professional. If you've ever been in a Mobil 'On the Run' you now the uniforms I'm referring to. Anyway, after flicking her long, french manicured nails at my scarf,[more on this later] I answer that yes, we'd be wearing the scarves. She says that the dm told her it would be their choice. I repeat that we will be wearing the scarves. My store, my rules. (thought but did not say, you work for me....)

Strike 3. On a break she mentioned, or should I say stated, I still get my shift back. I say that i am not sure about that, but that we are hiring some other people and I will be workig out a schedual to best fir the needs of the store. She replies that it is HER shift. I repeat that it is not something that is set i stone. She then informs me that a) she doesn't drive...because she doesn't have a license...because hers is suspended so that b) her boyfriend drops her off on his way to work and that she c) can't work the afternoon shift because she has to babysit the boyfriend's kids. This tells me she...1)hmmmm lost her license for a reason...and in Michigan that tends to be drunk driving....2) cannot ever be 'called in' to cover a shift, 3) may well call out if a kid is sick (which isn't a good excuse really as reliable babysitters are a must for working mms/dads--and she says they do not have one. She also complained about working at the restaurant next door because they haven't paid her yet and are 'stealing her money' when she's says she's only been there 2 weeks (they hold first pay week and pay biweekly) and are one of the oldest established family restaurants in town.

Now, back to those looong ingernails with the expensive looking french tips. As a cashier in a gas/convenience store, one cashiers, does food service, sticks tanks, cleans bathrooms, LOADS/FILLS coolers, mops floors etc. One cannot stoc coolers in a timely fashion if one is worried about 'breaking a nail', nor do I want to have to have a 15 minute task take half an hour because she's being careful o said nails. Not the least of which is fishing change out of a drawer with long nails is darned near impossible.

SO. There I am. One other piece of info is that I was asked ifn I wanted to bring someone in with me. And yes I do and she's applied. This is a cashier/food service person I trust implicitly, who's as familiar with my work ethic as I am with hers...who also wants days. I want her for days, because i need a reliable person checking in vendors, making accurate conts and eventually being trained to help out on weekends and when I am not there for what-ever reason (like weekends)

Now am I wrong in thinking this girl isn't a)gonna last long b)shouldn't last long and/or c)not gonna be a 'good fit'.?

Well, after a looong first week at the new job (and aren't those first weeks at a new job the pits until you get the lay of the land and the training under your belt?) and collapsing into bed by 7pm so I can be up at 3am (make that 0:dark thirty) we finally got pictures of my new car....whooo hoo!!!!
my new carmy new car
It is a 2007 G-6, V-6 3.5 liter, 4 door, sun-roofed, remote starting, liquid silver dream come true!

Well, the new job is going okay although it is difficul to play 'cashier' while I learn their register system. Now, granted, I need to know it cold, but omg, I'd forgotten how glad I was to get past that point. I keep wanting to know why they are doing things a certain way, knowing full well, I will not be doing it that way!!! But I finally figured out the best way to handle it!

Being a HUGE 'Survivor' fan, I've decided the scarf I have to wear at work is my 'survivor buff' lol....Don't even want my butt voted out lol. And, funny, it has made a tremendous difference in how i'm perceiving things there...and when all is said and done...I have a new car!!! LOL I LOVE driving it!!!!

Hoping to put a pic up later today. Not tht anyone really cares, but me...but that's ok! I'm am so trilled about it. I'm almost 53 years old and never had a new car in my life that was mine. *starting to feel like a mix between a teenaged kid and a grown-up* Now THAT'S Scary!!! *giggles at herself* But after 10 hours on my feet (which are killing me!!) I can get in the car nd drive on down the road wit the sunroof open and the kick a** stereo blasting and I feel sooooooooooooooo good!!!!

of whatever weather it turns out to be!)

The first day of work went well :) Getting uniform shirts today that should fit...ended up with a 2x yesterday...down to my knees, with the sleeves rolled up twice, it was still way long in the sleeves...trying to tuck that much shirt into a pair of pants was NOT pretty! lol. As soon as I wrap my mind around someof the things that are done distinctly differently from last job, all will be well :) Did ok tho......1st day at work at a new job...and that is not the news of the day!!!

I got a new car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whooooooooooooooooo Hooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A 2007 G-6 (add a few more letters here but i don't remember which) and it is awesome!
The color is called 'liquid silver' and the dashboard at night? It is like driving the Enterprise!
I so love it!!! I think I cried half the way home!! This is a totally amazing experience for me!!!!

I am not a happy camper this morning. Haven't been since late last night, well, early today.

I BLEW IT! I TOTALLY BLEW IT! For 21 days, I was involved with Ter's Poetry Challenge. Every day we had to write a poem, often using certain words and not using others. So every day I cranked out a poem. Some of them I am inordinantley proud of. Some were on the silly side. Some were what I call 'poetry' vs a mere poem. And, to me, there is a distinction. Poetry is an upper level of the category 'poem,' with chosen levels of meaning, word play, obvious and not so obvious messages.

Yesterday was a mish-mash of ups and downs and frazzling frustrations! Waiting for people to call back (who finally did at 10pm--way too late) and needing emails to do other things which tied me to the puter so i couldn't do Ken's birthday project that I'm building so that i couldn't do other things I needed to do INCLUDING writing the poem for the last day of the challenge. Ken gets home from work and now I am trying to write said poem and talk to insurance people and talk to him and...and...and.

Well, I write a killer poem, read it to Ter who is blown away by it and we are happy.

I post it, fuss it up, as a killer pic with it and then start to get ready for a big night out with all of Ken's buddy's at a local pub for karaoke. I'm out of the shower for 5 minutes when his buddy calls, saying that he's already there. Ken says, ok, we'll be on the road in 10. I'm in the bathroom, soaking wet. 10 minutes? I think not! Anyway, I'm dashing to get ready for the night out and drying hair and finding clothes (because I, of course, don't like the first clothes I had on) and we were out the door...me, minus make-up or perfume or.....

Meanwhile, back at the poem, Ter goes to check them for appropriate number of descriptive words and the 'included' word. Mine doesn't have 'final or finally' in it. I TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT INCLUDING THAT BLASTED STUPID DUMB WORD!
sO, AFTER 21 DAYS OF TRYING TO DO THIS, I BLOW IT AT THE LAST MOMENT!!!!

STUPID, STUPID!!!!! I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOO DUMB! :(

aLL THAT WORK.....BLAST DRAT!

Yeah, I wrote some excellent stuff...but at the last minute.....sigh...I was in tears when I found out. Might seem kind of silly, but I wanted my stuff featured in the newsletter. I wanted that merit badge. I worked hard for it, ya know? I am so disappointed in me. And poor Ter who had to toss my butt out of the challenge at the 11th hour. I feel so bad for her. She was upset too. I want to break something. I son't swear, but I sure was last night!

On the up side, Ken and I had a blast at the pub and a bunch of his friends showed up and he sang (!!!!!!!!!). I got a video of it...grin...if it were a wee bit brighter, we'd have put it on u-tube lol. that would have been a kick.

ok, i feel better now :) sorta kinda

A light breeze wafting in the window. Heat's off, windows open and the 'threat' of a thunderstorm. Lovely. Wonderful. I can't wait! Seriously! 1st thunderstorm of spring. Whoo Hoo! Did you know, according to my grandmother, that with the first thunderstom the Seven Sleepers all wake up--the bee, the bat, the butterfly, the corn crake, the water-snake, the cukoo and the swallow! A bit of old New England trivia for you!

On the headline news front....I got the job! Yesterday I was given an 'offer of employment' in writing. When handed the letter in the big boss' office, I didn't hardly read it, just skipped (skep?--oughta be a word) down to the bottom line...show me the money...and they did! *grin* After I got home, I actually read the whole letter....nice ego trip, that, and I'm still flying high!

I start Monday!!! I am so psyched!

Can't believe it is SIXTY-ONE degrees out. Yesterday morning it was snowing! Big, fat, lazy snowflakes fluttering down, defiant of the fact it was the first full day of spring. Michigan....weird weather here! LOL

My email is sending me 'blog reminders' telling me to update my blog...so I am.

I got THE coolest bunny shell! terryjroo is such a sweetie! Here's what she made for me!
My favorite bunny!

I absolutely LOVE it!

Still on cloud 9 about my job. I'll be managing a convenience store with gas right here in town...literally 5 minutes from home. The fun part will be rearranging my schedual so I still have my WDC time too! The store is closed at the moment because itis being remodeled, so when I take it over it will be all fresh and new and beautiful!!!! It is going to be so awesome!

Ken's finally feeling better and returned to work today. I'm taking echinaecha and vitimin c and doing everything I can to not let what is trying to take over make me sick. I simply cannot do 'sick' right now! No time and not with a brand new job.

The "Invalid Item is winding down and I am sorry abot that. I am enjoying it so and it has pushed me to write some poetry that I am really proud of! I've posted them in a book (for the challenge) as well as static items in my 'Blotter' so that they can get some reviews. It is fun to read every one's entries and to see how some of the writers in the challenge are really reaching new heights in their poetry!

A me plug.....I have a contest and it REALLY needs more entries...Please check it out!

It has some amazing prizes and an ongoing prompt sequence that build upon itself. Winners and nonwinners alike will have a chance later in the year to compete for additional prizes as well!

Well, I have a pile of reviews to write so I'moff to the Land of Reviews. It wasn't a happy place over the weekend so I hoping today it will be more fun. I get a bit exasperated when I'm reviewing something that (to me) seems really rough..like a draft still and I see all sorts of 4 and 5 ratings for it. I take reviews incredibly serious. To me, to rate something a 5 means it is awesome writing. To give 5's to writing that should be a 3 or..gasp...worse....negates the true 4's and 5's...and i drives me crazy.

*steps off her soapbox*

That being purged...off to write reviews...lol
