This blog keeps me in touch with WDC. Jamesdillingham.com keeps me in touch elsewhere.
I like to stay in touch with WDC, even when I'm not contributing on a daily basis. My main blog is at jamesdillingham.blogspot.com

After a slow summer, my business is really picking up. That's good news except when it comes to writing. It seems like I am always too tired to write or review. This next week has no travel scheduled (so far) so maybe I can get some writing in.

After a brief bout with vacation and work, I am now poised to get back into writing. This means I have to finish a revision and do a review for my group Let's Publish.

The revision is substantial since this group pulls no punches. They tell you what needs to be done and pull no punches. They are nice about it but that doesn't lessen the amount of work a revision takes to pass muster.

I am now part of the group Let's Publish.

Here is what I have found so far:

1. This group is not about complacency. They expect you to write, revise, review and publish.
2. The group has a page on how to provide detailed reviews. I know that type of thing is all over WDC but somehow, this one works for me.
3. The people in the group, like all WDC groups, are great. They give freely of their time.

The thing I like the best is that this group has got me writing again. I wasn't really stopped but I wasn't trying as hard. In the past, I would submit a story a day to the Daily Flash Fiction Challenge. Lately, I noticed that it didn't take much for me to think "too busy for that".

At Let's Publish, it's not all about me. It would be hard for me to not participate; in fact, it's not allowed. If I disappear for a couple of weeks, they will try to bring be back into the fold. If I resist, my place in the group will go to someone else.

I like that.

I need that.

I have joined the WDC group "Let's Publish". This is a very serious group that is about getting things done, not just thinking about it. Basically, you either move forward or get out and make room for someone that will.

Perfect for me.

It's Monday evening here at Logan Airport. I have a 6pm flight to Cleveland and then a rental car trip to a hotel in Akron. It's good to be back in the states, listening to people speak English and being able to read signage. But, I'm not home yet. Meetings all day Tuesday and Wednesday and then two flights to get home on Thursday. Maybe I'll try to do some writing between now and then but right now - the tank is empty.

I have now been on the road for 24 days with 7 more to go. I am not suffering; I am just a little homesick.

I have been writing on my blog, jimdillingham.blogspot.com but that is about it. I hope to start with the daily writing soon. I noticed that there was not Inspirational Quotation contest this month. Hopefully, there will be a Short Shots contest next month. I have a long flight (Budapest-Frankfurt-Boston-Cleveland) which is perfect for a 2,000 word story.

I have restarted my book - from Chapter One. I got discouraged after the SF writers conference with content and publishing and such. Now, I am ready to go. The first chapter is shaping up better than before. Instead of trying to "tell a story", I am trying to write it so that it is fun to read as well.

My road trip is now on day 18 with 13 more to go. I just got back to Budapest after a week of vacation in Vodice, Croatia. This next week is sort of business as usual. My wife goes to her job and I stay home and work on my job. I need to be ready with a presentation in Ohio a week from Tuesday. I travel to Ohio on the 2nd of August. Once I finish there, I get to finally go home (California).

Hopefully I will be able to do some writing soon.

I am off to sit on the beach in Croatia for a week. During that time I will not be doing any writing. Instead, I will read. I used to read constantly but since I joined WCD, my focus has been more on writing.

I have two books: What the Dog Saw by Malcolm Gladwell and Last Night in Twisted River by John Irving. While I think I am more of a Sci-fi writer, if I could choose to write like anyone, it would be John Irving. I think reading these two books will get me ready to do some serious writing.

I will be out of touch for about 9 days since I am not sure what sort of internet connectivity I will have in Croatia. After that, a week in Hungary, then back to Ohio for a few days and then finally HOME!!

I am on day 6 of my 31 day road trip. I am in Ohio and leave for Hungary on Thursday. I am too busy to write a story but I have written a couple of entries to my blog at www.jimdillingham.blogspot.com.

Tomorrow, I get on a plane and don't return home for 31 days. Half of it is work and half of it is vacation. All of it is away from home. As much as I travel, I love being home. I don't mind a week or two on the road a month but 31 days is really pushing it. I can't wait until August 7th when I can look and see all of this is behind me.
