Brief insights into my writing world.

I started my blog in June 2016, intending to have a place to get my stories in the hands of readers. I started with one follower -- my wife. I post a daily quote, as well as short stories and vignettes. Alas, current events pull my attention and I've added current events to the mix.

You can find my Tavern Tales at: https://jjshaun.com/

Enjoy!

When I worked at the Rocky Mountain Collegian back in the day, I spent two years with the opinion desk writing a column I called ‘Bridging the Gap.’ In those days, I was considered a ‘non-traditional’ student because I was older than the average person in most of my classes. I originally posted this on Mother’s Day 2019. To say life has changed since I originally posted this would be an understatement. Despite the hardships of the last ten years, life is still good. Happy Mother’s Day

I’ve found Lorielei a fascinating person. She started out as a character study of a someone set in their ways, reflecting on a rich, fulfilling life, and ready to settle into her closing chapters. What you’ve read so far, is the first draft of a chapter, maybe two. Loriel, Argaron, and company turned into characters with a mission, and now they won’t leave me alone—Loriel in particular. (She has a way of letting her opinion known.) A full outline is forming in my mind, yet to bloom into fruition.
