Brief insights into my writing world.

I started my blog in June 2016, intending to have a place to get my stories in the hands of readers. I started with one follower -- my wife. I post a daily quote, as well as short stories and vignettes. Alas, current events pull my attention and I've added current events to the mix.

You can find my Tavern Tales at: https://jjshaun.com/

Enjoy!

The word of the week is anticipation. I received a phone call from one of our community members letting me know the schedule for the upcoming house move.

Last week, First Reader commented I wrote a nice weather report. She isn’t wrong since that’s been our biggest hold up since October. I did a little research on the copious amounts of rainfall this spring and discovered that the city received over twelve inches of rain in May and June. Keep in mind that this area typically gets around four-and-a-half inches during that same time frame in an average year. I’d say we’re far ahead of the average right now. No wonder we don’t have our house yet.

Yesterday, WordPress congratulated me for seven years of blogging. My first post was a brief statement about my site, Tavern Tales, being under construction. Almost two weeks later, I added another post—this time with more of an introduction to me as a writer, and my original intentions for my blog.

This week saw more progress on our house.

The framing crew was up at the property on Tuesday, but ran into a few mechanics problems with a couple of their trucks. First, the young fellow who came last week to measure for materials neglected to tell his crew about our driveway's steepness and condition. So, the truck that delivered the materials did not have trailer brakes. That, and one pickup arrived onsite with a pinhole in the radiator hose. Consequently, the job didn’t get started until Wednesday.

Mr. Sub-Contractor contacted me on Wednesday morning with pictures of snow patches covering the ground where the slab was to be poured. Temperatures were hovering near freezing.

Imagine our surprise when all meetings with Mr. Contractor fell through this week. All is not lost, though. He hired a reliable sub-contractor who will get the job done.

Theoretically, Mr. Contractor will be on the property tomorrow to get some additional measurements before getting started on the rest of our building. Theoretically. I’ll believe it when I see it.

It’s getting harder to update the same ol’ post every week, but here we go: No progress on our house—still.

It seems Mother Nature can’t quite make up her mind. Last Friday, it snowed most of the day, and we got a few inches of the wet, heavy white stuff. Most of it had melted by Saturday afternoon as the daytime temperatures warmed up once more.

Two-an-a-half years ago, my wife and I lost our home to wildfire. I've been blogging about our rebuilding journey ever since. Here is my latest update on our progress.

We woke up to snow yesterday morning. Again. Of course, by the afternoon, it was gone again. Welcome to Springtime in the Rockies, my friends.
