Just an image Prompt:
Psalm 1:1-3
1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

This scripture is loaded with information. It tells us what we should not do and what we should do and that we will be blessed for following these instructions. How can these verses apply to our lives?

I just did a research paper on Psalm 1 for Biblical Hermeneutics last semester. There is a ton of controversy surrounding Psalm 1. Most of it has to do with whether Psalm 1 is an eschatological psalm referring to the state of sinners in the future, or if it refers to the state of believers and sinners in the present. I think it refers to both. The tree planted by the streams of living water refers to the fact that believers are blessed in the present. We presently have eternal life. The dried tree is non-believers who are dead in their sins and whose prosperity is temporary at best.

By faith I am fasting as a sacrifice to my God. The wind of His spirit blows through me. The vernal equinox dawns green on the horizon. Scarlet flowers bloom there as well.

I had an interview yesterday that is going to change the course of my life. I spoke with a professor at Marshall University about an idea I had for a business. He is a professor in business and not one to blow smoke up your leg if he believes your idea will fail. I pitched my ideas to him and he loves it. He helped me put together a vision statement and chart that, with a little tweaking, will attract investors. Our investors are likely to be foundations as I believe I am going to organize it to be non-profit.

As I was preparing to speak to the professor about my idea, my publisher called. They have organized a zoom conference that I am to be part of today. The meeting focuses on my book "Teatime", which is being published in April.

Just an image "Prompt: There are some other scriptures that speak of spiritual blessings besides the beatitudes. I hope for us to take a look at some of them over the next few days.

James 1:12
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

What does it mean to endure temptation?"

"ὑπομένω" is the Greek word used in James. It is is pronounced "hoopameno" and it refers to stand up under a trial. Temptations are tough but to those who do not fall for temptation Jesus has a crown in store.

I hope my readers can forgive my busyness. I have had a really busy week and it looks like it could get even busier over the next few months. If I am not ill I am in a rush and my blog is suffering. I type so slow that it takes me all morning to fill it out. In two hours I have a huge business meeting. I have to clean up and get ready for that meeting. It will determine how busy I am going to be for several months or years to come. I am considering starting a Long-term Residential Rehabilitation and Treatment Center for veterans here in town. I feel veterans have special needs that are left unmet by traditional rehab centers. A business professor from Marshall University has agreed to meet with me and discuss the possibility of starting a rehab that meets those needs. The meeting is at 2:00 PM today.

Just an image Prompt: "Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Right after the beatitudes, Jesus says we are the salt of the earth. What does it mean to be the salt of the earth?"

The salt of the earth is believers or Christians. We are a unique people who ought to stand out in a crowd. Peter refers to us as a "royal priesthood, a peculiar people."

We should be noticeably different from the world for Jesus should shine through us. Our focus should be very different from that of the world. Our focus should be on God and others. We should never seem self-centered. This focus makes us odd to the world.

I apologize for being so late today. It seems that if it is not one thing keeping me from my blog, something else keeps me from it. Today I was overwhelmed with side effects from my new medication. I thought at first that it was sugar, but am pretty sure it is my new medication. I have been dizzy and light headed all day. The side effects will pass in a day or so.

Just an image "Prompt: Matthew 5:10-12
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

This is the last beatitude. What does it mean to you, and why should we rejoice when persecuted?"

Persecution to me is a sign that I am doing something right. Back in the days Jesus spoke these words people died for their beliefs.

Continuing the topic of the beatitudes, let's look at the next three in line.

Matthew 5:7-9
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Explain what these three verses mean to you.

The pure in heart refers to those who are born again. God has declared them once and for all not guilty. All too often people have a "sin-management" theology as one writer who name escapes me puts it. The believers think the cross only covers their sin up until the moment of salvation. After that they have to keep themselves saved. Nothing could be farther from the truth. We are saved once and for all.

The peacemakers are preachers. We are all called to preach.

Matthew 5:5-6
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
What do these mean to you?"

Today has been busy for me. Jesus likes it when I am busy because it keeps me out of mischief. I am using my peer recovery support specialist certification to hold a group here at the West Virginia Veterans Home where I live. The group or class is about different ways we can change our behavior and thus improve our lives. I am planning a pizza party for this Thursday to advertise the group some, so I was out today posting fliers about that. I am also planning a revival here in June and have been working on that. My morning has been busy, busy, busy!

Jesus was telling us in these passages that if we seek the things of the Kingdom of God and live our lives like Kingdom citizens, then we will inherit the world. The world is still under the rule and influence of Satan, but Satan has been defeated. The surrender is just not yet signed and we will not inherit the world until the surrender is signed. Once it is signed (official) all sin will disappear. Then the world will be ours. It is not going to be the lay-around on a cloud playing a harp world that many believe though. It will be a world where we will be stumbling over each other to serve and love each other.

Cappucine would hate my desk right and probably my room. It has been a busy week and everything is a mess. I need to clean it good when I get the opportunity. "Prompt: “Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.”
Winston S. Churchill
We mostly believe that a positive attitude leads to success.
On the other hand, is it possible that people’s attitudes color or slant their perceptions of others and the world in general?"

I tell people all the time that our minds are like computers. They believe whatever we put in them. If we put positive thoughts in, we get a positive attitude back.

Image #2235060 over display limit. -?- Prompt: In the first few verses of Matthew chapter 5, this is where we find the Beatitudes.
What does Matthew 5:3-4 mean to you?

Matthew 5:3-4
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

First of all I want to congratulate Marvelous Friend for choosing such a great prompt! Interpreting scripture is called hermeneutics and it is very important that we do so properly. This is a particularly deep scripture because it has layers of interpretation. The poor in spirit refers to those who are humble of spirit and are not haughty and high minded. One has to empty themselves of pride before one can believe in Jesus Christ or admit that they need Christ. This is how we become "poor in spirit". We completely empty our hearts of all idols and focus on Jesus. Then we are saved and become part of the kingdom of heaven. Our citizenship changes from the world to heaven.

Mourning in verse four has several meanings. One: It refers to the resurrection. We will see our loved ones again. Second, it means those who mourn over the apparent success of sin in the world. Sin will be conquered.
