For my blog "Prompt: Proverbs 3:33-35
33 The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.
34 Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly.
35 The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.

What are your thoughts about these verses?"

I believe these verses are directed at those who claim there is no God. Only a fool would believe that. People look at my life and the lives of others in my congregation and they know that there is a God because they see His handiwork. I have zero taxed income. Yet I am never broke. God sustains me and sees to it that my needs are met.

For my blog "Prompt: Proverbs 3:30-32 - 30 Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.
31 Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.
32 For the froward is abomination to the Lord: but his secret is with the righteous.

What does this mean to you?

This is telling us not to be contentious in any situation. When others wrong us we are to remember that we have wronged God a lot worse and He forgave us immediately. Jesus tells us in Matthew 8:18 that we should not even offer prayer until we have made amends with anybody who wrongs us. Perhaps they will not accept our amends, but we are obligated to make them. We are not responsible for the actions of others. We make our amends. Perhaps they were completely in the wrong, but we are never completely innocent. Our part might be getting angry to begin with. We make amends for that tiny part. Most generally, the other person sees your action and they too accept their role, apologize for it, and the relationship is restored. It does not always work out this way, but it usually does. God is a God of relationships. He wants us to get along.

that discusses love and loneliness. Do you think there is someone for everyone? Why or why not?

Yes. I believe there are a lot of someone's for everyone. Isn't it odd that in a world 100,000 plus miles in diameter, and with a population of 7 billion people spread out over those miles, that Mr./Mrs. Right is usually found within 50 of those miles? That is because there are multiple matches for everybody out there.

For my blog "Prompt- "Proverbs 3:27-29
27 Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.
28 Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.
29 Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.

Explain these verses."

What Solomon is saying is that we are not suppose to procrastinate about doing the right thing. Doing the right thing is an act of love. When we drag our feet we are delaying love. If somebody needs something and it is in our power to give it we give it immediately. We do not make them suffer by doing without. It makes no difference who it is. There are exceptions to the rule. For example, we should never give if we know for a fact we are giving to somebody who will use it for harm or sinfully. I will not give things to addicts. They earn it or do without. I do not want to enable sin.

Empty Nest and Me  (E)
Now that the house is going to be empty, what about me
#1899142 by Stormy Lady
, a poem about something every parent goes through: empty nest syndrome. What was it like for you? If you have no children, what do you think it would be like?

Empty nest was difficult for me. I was a single parent, so I was both dad and mom to my son. He started running out of control when he was 14. I moved when he was 15 and let his mom have him. I had chosen to move to pursue my recovery and my career. It was still difficult as I was used to providing for two.

For my blogPrompt: "In Luke 10:38-41 we find Mary and Martha. Martha is complaining because Mary is listening to Jesus and not helping Martha prepare dinner. Jesus says that Mary is doing the right thing sitting at His feet. Are you sitting at Jesus's feet? How?"

I believe everybody should sit at Jesus's feet. The way to do that is to be in constant submission. Constant submission means forgiving any who have hurt us, past or present. It means to forget what they did and restore the relationship with them. God is a God of relationships.

Submission also means doing the next right thing, each time, every time. It means living a lifestyle that others respect and envy. This envy attracts them to God.

I think the author is slightly off base about the question. The question is not "To be or not to be?" The question is "To be God's or not to be God's? This question makes an eternal difference.

25 Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.

What is the desolation of the wicked? What does this mean?"

The desolation of the wicked refers to when the wicked meet what they have coming. Christians are not to fear when they witness the wicked meeting their doom. The wicked made their own choices and had the same choices we all have. We are not to pity them when the shoe falls on them. It will fall and we will witness it. Not fearing it means that we trust God's judgment and know that it is correct.

Why Are Frogs so Happy  (E)

What does this Scripture passage mean to you?"

It speaks of God being the Creator of the Earth and everything in it. Sometimes I fail to understand people. They can stand around and deny that God exists when confronted by His overwhelming evidence in the universe. Romans 1 speaks of how each person is going to be held accountable for that evidence. Our hearts tell us that all this splendor did not happen by random chance.

Proverbs 3:13-18
13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
14 For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.
15 She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.
16 Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.
17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.

This is what Solomon thought about wisdom and understanding and the value of it. What do you think about wisdom and understanding?

I agree with Solomon. Wisdom is all those things and more. Wisdom is knowing how to walk without causing a disturbance. Wisdom is having an understanding that lets you empathize with the situations of others.

11 My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction:
12 For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

Write about a time you were chastened by the Lord."

I believe a lot of people look at chastening from the Lord all wrong. They consider it punishment from God. God does not punish anybody. He never did for sin is its own punishment. It has consequences and repercussions. God allows those to be the punishment for sin. He may close the window of fellowship with His subjects, but I do not really believe He even does that. I believe when we sin He is standing there holding us and looking on our sin with us. No, He does not punish. He does chasten. The word used in this text is "מוּסַ֣ר" or musrar and it means "discipline." God disciplines when He allows trials to come into our lives. He is walking beside us every step of the way. He sees the storm on the horizon and knows the storm will beat and batter us, yet he walks us through it, knowing it will make us stronger. He does not punish us however.

10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

Some people believe these two verses have to do with tithing. What are your thoughts? What do you think about tithing?"

I am a soldier in the Salvation Army. I am under covenant to tithe my income and I do so faithfully. In fact, I am glad you mentioned that because I had not sent my tithe to the corps this month. The job I have pays once per month plus room and board. I just got paid so... Yes. I very much believe in tithing. The way I look at it, the money is all God's. He only asks for a small offering from it. The least I can do is make that offering. I do so out of respect. I love God with all my heart. While I may not be the most faithful follower and often fall short of the mark, I do love God and try to do the right thing. Tithing is the right thing to do. Whether God blesses my tithe or not is unimportant. I know that He does bless it though. I have had many people tell me that I live a charmed life because everything I need is met. I have answers to all my prayers and things usually go well for me. I think this is because I am, for the most part, obedient to God.

Proverbs 3:7-8
7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.
8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

What does it mean to be wise in my own eyes? What do these verses mean?"

Before I attempt to answer this question, I must ask your advice. I am the Chaplain of the WV Veterans Home in Barboursville WV. As chaplain I have the precarious job of walking on banana peelings and egg shells. I preach to people from churches who are diametrically opposed to each other doctrinally. One will believe in the premillennial reign of Jesus Christ and all that pertains to it. Another is from a church that does not believe in it. Both can use scripture to back up their positions. I have tried to stay neutral on the subject. My position, since I am well versed in both arguments and can see that both arguments are scripturally convincing, is to steer clear of it. I know we will find out!

The Jews thought they were going to be the country that led the rest of the world. In fact, I believe Judas betrayed Jesus because Judas thought doing so would spur Jesus into revolting against the Sanhedrin and against Rome. Judas had listened to all of the preachers and teachers of his time who had misinterpreted many Old Testament scriptures about the Messiah. He thought the Messiah was to set up a physical kingdom on earth. He was wrong.

What says that Jim Bakker, John Hagee, and all of the other premillennialist preachers today are not equally as mistaken? Jesus Himself said that His coming would be at a time when man did not expect. The church did not believe in the "rapture", "premillennialism" or any of this until the 1800's. Prior to that it was unheard of. Now it is commonly accepted and those who don't accept it are branded "non-believers" and "reprobates".

Jesus said we needed to believe only one thing: "Jesus Christ died and rose from the dead."

As long as that is preached all this other stuff is icing.

Now to answer the prompt: I believe to be wise in one's own eyes is to be puffed up full of pride and arrogance. Like the man in question, the proud think they are right and everybody else is wrong. They have no respect for differing opinions, even if those opinions are based on the other person's translation of scripture.
