"30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS Prompt for January 7th, 2013: Persuade me why you appreciate rainy days.
Who wouldn't love rainy days? I always look forward to them! There's nothing quite like snuggling up on rainy days with a bowl of hot soup and taking time to reflect and be thankful for all you have. Rainy days usually make it easier to get your shopping done. You can dash in and out of the stores quickly while most people are sitting in their cars, afraid of getting wet.

It's not as bad going to work and/or school on rainy days, because you're not sitting there thinking of all the exciting things you could be doing outside. And when the day is finally over, snuggling up under a warm blanket as you hear the rain hit a tin roof provides the most restful sleep ever!

I love rainy days! *Heart*

"Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum January 7, 2013: Are you a dog person, a cat person, or "other"?
Although I'm a sucker for all animals, I would have to say I'm a cat person. I have 5 cats, and if I had my way, I'd have even more. Cats are so cute and cuddly. And they're quiet. My cats never meow unless they're hungry or thirsty and, even then, they don't disturb the neighbors.

I love dogs, too, though. I don't have any at the moment, but I usually have at least 1. My last was a Dalmatian, but she passed away about a year ago. I know there a lot of dogs who need loving homes, but I just can't bring myself to get another one yet. *Frown*

I love both cats and dogs, and I get attached to both. *Heart*

Prompt for January 6th, 2013:
BLOG! Reflect on your week, include your favorite blog entry from your fellow challengers from the preceding week and, most importantly, why.

First of all, this prompt reminded me that there are probably some blogs that I haven't even read and commented on this week. I resolve to make sure I read something from every blogger, even if I have to do it the next day. Anyway...

I love being a member of this group. Each of the bloggers is special in his or her own way and, over the course of the past week, I have learned something valuable from each and every one. *Heart*

That being said, my favorite entry from this week was "Invalid Entry from SapphireRainee . I chose this entry, because I am fascinated by the paranormal, and I am jealous of the ghost hunter job. *Laugh* More particularly, though, I am interested in the paranormal contest idea. I love me some flash fiction, and I love the genre.

This week has been pretty hectic for me. I know it probably doesn't seem that way since you can almost always find me online at WDC, but I'm a great multitasker. *Laugh* Monday, I embarked on my 5 hour journey from my apartment in Ohio to my home in West Virginia. I worked Tuesday through Friday at the law office where I worked as a paralegal before I came to law school. Then I drove the 300 miles back to Ohio on Friday afternoon. Shew!

I FINALLY got my grades for last semester: A+ in Family Law, A in UCC Payment Systems, A in Secured Transactions, A- in Criminal Procedure, and a B- in Property II. My grade in Professional Responsibility still hasn't posted. I don't know what happened with property, but if anyone wants a deed, I would suggest that they not hire me to prepare it. *Laugh*

Another bright note: I realized I hadn't written anything (other than blog entries) in awhile, so I decided at around 10:30 tonight to write an entry for today's "Daily Flash Fiction Challenge, which has to be done by around 11 p.m. I wrote it rather quickly, and I won!! *Bigsmile* Here's my entry:

I hope everyone is having a great weekend. I'm so glad I joined this group, and I am thankful for all of the wonderful friends I have met here! *Heart*

Hello, my blogging friends! Since the prompt for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS is so different today, I'm going to make a different entry for each blog.

This week has been pretty hectic for me. "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS Prompt: Design and write about what would be your ideal contest on WDC.
This prompt is especially difficult, because there are already contests for every initial idea I can come up with. That being said, my ideal contest would be a month-long challenge with a daily prompt for which you have to write a story between 400 to 500 words. The catch is that each daily prompt builds off the one before and the story written for it has to be a continuation of the day(s) before. In the end, you would have 1 long story that you have been working on daily for an entire month.

I think a contest such as that would not only motivate writers to create longer stories, but it would also motivate them to work on their writing daily.

"Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum Prompt: If you could wake up tomorrow and find that one thing had changed about the world, what would you have that one thing be?
Another tough and thought provoking prompt. I'm sure I'll think of a better answer later, but my first instinct would be to make everyone healthy - no sickness, no disease, no broken bones, no psychological problems.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!!!

"30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS Prompt for January 4th:
"Through humor, you can soften some of the worst blows that life delivers. And once you find laughter, no matter how painful your situation might be, you can survive it." ~Bill Cosby
Discuss the above quotation and whether or not you believe the same.
I agree with the first sentence wholeheartedly. If you learn to not always take things so seriously and to laugh at your own mistakes and shortcomings, it can make life a lot more tolerable. Even if you find no humor in the situation, laughs are sometimes contagious, and just the release of tension that laughing sometimes brings can make you feel a little better.
As to the second sentence, I don't agree with it if taken literally. I can't help but think of being diagnosed with terminal cancer. Though you may still be able to laugh despite the pain, that does not guarantee survival. I know the quote wasn't meant to be taken quite so literally, and I can respect and appreciate Cosby's views. I just beg to differ. *Wink*

"30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS Prompt: Do you believe that incorrect spellings and grammar are acceptable in creative forms such as poetry?
No, I do not. I believe that spelling and grammar are as indicative of a writer's ability as the choice of words themselves. I think that an excellent poem that is replete with spelling and grammatical errors becomes a good poem. I can completely understand the occasional spelling or grammatical error in a poem due to an oversight of the author, but a poem full of errors evidences to me that the author is neither conscientious nor proud of his work. That being said, I do try to make sure I point out all of these errors that I find when reviewing a piece in an attempt to ensure that an exceptional piece doesn't get a low rating because of errors that can easily be remedied.

"Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum Prompt: You have to give up one of your senses. Which one will it be?
Now, this is a tough question. I would have to say I would give up the sense of taste. I think it would be much easier to go the rest of my life without being able to taste anything than it would to live without the ability to see, hear, smell or feel. Smell comes in a close second, but losing one's ability to smell results in the inability to taste as well, so I would chose taste.

Since I have a prompt for both the "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS and "Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum, I'm going to address both of them in this entry.

"30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS If you could give any person in the world one gift (money and time are no obstacle), who would you pick and what would you give them?
I'm guessing that the gift doesn't have to be monetary, so I would have to say that I would give my mother the gift of good health. She is in her early 60's and, although she is still quite active, I can see her health slowly deteriorating. A couple of weeks ago, she fell and broke her arm, and she has been in constant pain since that time. Also, as of late, I have noticed that her memory isn't quite what it used to be, and she'll tell me the same thing several times, forgetting that we have already talked about it. It breaks my heart to see someone whom I love so much with declining health and knowing there's nothing I can do about it. *Frown*

"Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum What was the longest amount of time you have spent waiting in line for something? What was it, and was it worth the wait? First of all, I'd like to note that I am likely one of the most impatient people in the world, so any amount of time spent waiting in line seems like an eternity to me. That being said, the longest amount of time I have ever spent waiting in line was during a Black Friday sale in 2009. Because I am not a morning person, rather than risking oversleeping, I stayed up all night the night before. That was my first mistake.

I arrived at the mall at 4:30 a.m. to get a head start on the stores that were opening their doors at 5. Unfortunately, I wasn't the only one with that idea. I sat in a line of cars for 3 hours, just trying to get into the parking lot. By the time I was finally able to get to the front of the line of cars, I saw that there were no parking spaces left. Disgusted, disgruntled and discouraged, I gave up and left the mall without even trying to park, which took another 2 hours. It was obviously not worth the wait. Consequently, I have not attempted to attend another Black Friday sale since then!

With the new year comes new goals, and one of my main goals this year is to work to improve my writing. Until the month of December, I hadn't focused on my writing in years. Then, something prompted me to sign onto WDC one day, and the rest is history. I realized how much I've missed writing. And the WDC environment is unbelievable! There are so many supportive, encouraging people. Within a month, I wrote several pieces, including a Diatelle poem. I'm particularly proud of that, because not only was it the first poem I have ever written, it also won first place in the "Invalid Item! *Delight*

Now that I've gotten back into the swing of writing, I want to work to improve it. Today's blog prompt was my perfect motivation. There's a list of several areas on which I want to improve, but the most important would be working to improve the length of my stories. I like entering contests that require me to write a story between 55 and 500 words. I see a contest that requires longer stories, and I become intimidated and don't even try. At the same time, I get several reviews stating that the story I have written would be a good one to expand upon. While I do take these reviews to heart, I have not yet done anything with the suggestions. It is now my goal to work on that.

Since I'm on the subject, I would also like to memorialize some of my other writing goals here, as I think setting it out like this will make it more likely for me to achieve them:

*Checkb* Step outside my comfort zone and write more in different genres.

*Checkb* Devote at least one hour of every day to work on my writing.

*Checkb* Develop the ideas I have floating in my head into written stories.

*Checkb* Read and review more of the writing of others.

*Checkb* Refrain from posting items that aren't my best effort just to meet a contest deadline.

*Checkb* Work on developing better endings for my stories.

*Checkb* Ensure that I take all the advice of reviewers of my writing into consideration.

I'm sure there are more, but I think I'll be able to keep myself rather busy with this list.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful beginning to the new year!

Looking back over the past year, what do you consider to be your greatest accomplishment of the year?

Looking back over 2012, I realize I've had quite a few noteworthy accomplishments. Most recently, I started writing again, and I am very proud of that. Over the course of the year, I have also managed to pay my car off, overcome my fear of public speaking and become more organized. I have made a lot of wonderful new friends while still managing to spend time with older friends. All in all, it has been a great, productive year for me.

I would have to say that my greatest accomplishment in 2012 was completing 3 semesters (18 hours each) of law school and maintaining a 3.9 average. That leaves me with only 1 semester until I graduate! *Delight*

I hope everyone has a wonderful New Year!

I think I'm going to stick with the prompt today.
How did you decide what to use as your Writing.com nickname? Given the opportunity to change or update your nickname, what would it be and why?
I decided to use "outoftouch" as my WDC username, because I was a member of WDC years ago, but school and live got in the way. So, rather than figuring out a way to manage my time more efficiently, I gave up writing. Realizing what a mistake it was to give up one of my few outlets, I opened a new account over a year ago. However, I didn't even sign in or write anything until recently (the past few weeks to be exact).

Also, during my absence, a lot of things had changed on the site. There were a lot of new members, some of the older members were gone, and a lot of the yellow cases had gone black. It didn't take me long to learn, though, that the same caring, encouraging environment is still here, and some of the newer members are fantastic.

Given the opportunity to change my username, I think I would leave it the same. I can't think of another name that I would prefer, and I sort of like the shortened version 'OOT". *Laugh*

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
