A place to keep my personal thoughts.
My thoughts, like teardrops, splash onto the page, causing a rippling effect that disturbs the calm and quiet.

Were you miraculously granted complete power to change for the better one aspect of any person or thing in the world, what would you change and why?

I know this may be way too broad, but if I could change one aspect of the world for the better, it would be to cut out all of the world's unemployment. Every day, I see people who have had the same occupation for years being laid off. I'm from West Virginia, and the coal industry, which was booming only a few years ago, is now virtually gone. Hundreds of jobs are gone along with it. And I'm currently in law school in Dayton, OH. Jobs are being lost continuously. Unemployment is becoming a daily thing there as well.

If we could get rid of the unemployment, we could also lower the crime rate, lower the poverty rate, increase the overall morale of the citizens. Those who have jobs are in fear of losing them. If by some miracle a person's job is secure, they likely have at least a few family members who are recently unemployed. Unemployment affects almost everyone.

On a totally different note, I have written and reviewed A LOT this week. I'm really enjoying my Christmas break from law school. It's so nice to read something because I want to instead of because it was an assigned reading for school. If anyone has something they would like reviewed, just post it here or email me, and I'll be glad to check it out.

I have also stepped WAY outside my comfort zone this week. I wrote my first poem - a diatelle, which I hadn't even heard of until this week.

Then, I even took a stab at erotica, another first. Sure, it's more like PG erotica, but ya gotta start somewhere. *Laugh*

What are your thoughts/ beliefs about U.F.O.'s and whether or not intelligent life exists on other planets?

I am hesitant to say U.F.O's don't exist, because through the years, if I've learned anything, it's that (almost) anything is possible. That being said, if I my life depended on my answer, I would have to say I don't believe they exist. Most accounts of sightings of U.F.O.'s have turned out to be other, explainable things. And I would say that some sightings were dreamed up by people who wanted attention.

The same is true of intelligent life on other planets. I wouldn't discount it entirely, but my belief is that there is not intelligent life on other planets. If there was, surely someone would have found more concrete proof by now.

I have to admit that there are a lot of unexplainable things in this world. And I could very well be wrong in my beliefs about U.F.O.'s and intelligent life on other planets. But until I see something to convince me otherwise, I'll stick with my beliefs that neither exists.

I am trying to incorporate new things into my writing, and I managed to do just that tonight. I have never attempted poetry. As a matter of fact, I have always envied those who could write a meaningful poem. I love reading poems; I just can't write them. Tonight, I really wandered outside of my comfort zone.

I thought "Invalid Item seemed very interesting. And some type of prompt and direction on style was just what I needed to force myself to write. The poem I chose to try is called a diatelle, and it was tough. It really forced me to think and to pay close attention to what I was doing. It also made me respect the poets I know even more.

Anyway, I came up with

And even though it is a bit juvenile, I am so proud of it! lol

Hope everyone is having a great Christmas!

When I was a child, I would look so forward to Christmas...opening gifts, vacation from school, etc. Now that I am grown, I sometimes find myself dreading the holiday. It isn't because of the holiday itself, but because of the expectations. It seems that Christmas is so commercialized now. I feel obligated to find the perfect gift and to buy gifts for those who buy for me, whether or not I would have otherwise bought them something.

Now that I've gotten my rant out of the way, I must touch upon the good things about Christmas. Of course it is a celebration of the birth of Christ, and that's definitely a good thing (in my opinion). Also, it's a time that I can be with my family, and I always treasure that time. Finally, it's a time that I can see the joy on the faces of the little ones in my family as they celebrate with the same fascination that I used to have.

While I don't enjoy or look forward to Christmas as much as I used to, I enjoy the time spent celebrating with family and friends.

Perhaps the only thing more difficult for a private person like myself to do than decide to start blogging is to create that first entry. So, here goes nothing. While I have an urge to start talking about everything that has happened to me and bothered me over the past few years, I think I'll just start by telling a little about myself.

I just finished my fifth semester of law school and have been obsessively checking to see if my grades are posted (they aren't). My life is currently uneventful. I have wasted most of the day playing hidden object games on Facebook. I do that quite often, especially when I should be studying. So, if anyone needs a neighbor on Blackwood & Bell, Gardens of Time or Seaside Escapes, hit me up! lol

I'm happy to say that the world didn't end yesterday as many people were convinced. I still haven't figured out why the people with that mindset even bother. If I really thought the world was about to end, I would NOT go to work or school.

I love to read and write, but I haven't taken the time to do so in years. I feel good about my decision to make time to do those things, and I am really taking advantage of all that WDC has to offer. I have already "met" many encouraging people whom I look forward to getting to know better.

I try to be optimistic, but my life is often filled with drama, so my blog will likely consist of a lot of rants. Luckily, I can usually find a bit of humor amidst the chaos.

I have a lot more to say, but I'll save it for another time. For now, I'm happy that I posted my first entry.
