Take UP Your Cross

Prompt:
Deuteronomy 281-14
1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God.
3 Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.
4 Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.
5 Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store.
6 Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.
7 The Lord shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.
8 The Lord shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
9 The Lord shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the Lord thy God, and walk in his ways.
10 And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the Lord; and they shall be afraid of thee.
11 And the Lord shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
12 The Lord shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.
13 And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:
14 And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.

This is the promise of blessing to those who are the people of God. We are not only blessed but overtaken by blessings. If our life is lacking in blessing, what can we do to obtain these blessings from the Lord? How are we blessed?

Answer:
These verses explain the blessings very well. I need to make sure that I am Seeking Jesus and the kingdom of God first. Then all these things shall be added unto me.

Scripture writing - Acts 28:1-5

Scripture:
28 And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita.
2 And the barbarous people shewed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.
3 And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.
4 And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.
5 And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.

Observations:
The ship that Paul was on had wrecked. They ended up on an island where there were Barbaric people, people who were considered primitive or uncivilized. Normally, barbarous people were considered to be cruel and dangerous. These people ended up being extremely nice to them. The lit a fire for warmth considering the rainy weather. A poisonous snake bit Paul on the hand, and they expected him to get sick and/or die. They thought surely vengeance had taken him out from some horrible crime like murder that he may have committed. He just shook the snake off into the fire and continued his merry way. No harm ever came to him as a result of the snake bite.

Application:
Even barbaric people can show a lot of kindness when they choose to. When we are laboring for the Lord, God protects us.

Prayer:
Dear God,
Thank you for your protection. Keep me safe from harm as I work to serve you. Give me favor and peace with other people.
In Jesus’s name,
Amen

Take UP Your Cross

Prompt:
Psalm 128:1-6
Blessed is every one that feareth the Lord; that walketh in his ways.
2 For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.
3 Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.
4 Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the Lord.
5 The Lord shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.
6 Yea, thou shalt see thy children's children, and peace upon Israel.

What does it mean to fear the Lord? Should we be afraid of anything else?

Answer:
The Lord should be our only fear. Everything else is nothing compared to the power of Almighty God.

Scripture writing - Acts 21:17-19

Scripture:
17 And when we were come to Jerusalem, the brethren received us gladly.
18 And the day following Paul went in with us unto James; and all the elders were present.
19 And when he had saluted them, he declared particularly what things God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry.

Observations:
Basically, these verses are saying that the group of people with Paul was received gladly. Paul then gave them a report of his mission work.

Application:
We should always receive others gladly especially when they are our siblings in Christ.

Prayer:
Dear God,
May I always received my brothers and sisters in Christ with gladness.
In Jesus's name,
Amen

Prompt: "Nothing is more exciting and rewarding than the sudden flash of insight that leaves you a changed person." ~ Arthur Gordon
Have you ever had such a sudden flash of insight?

As a Christian, I read the Bible regularly. As a result, I get “flashes of insite” on a regular basis. The Bible is called the living. Word of God for a reason.

Take UP Your Cross

Prompt:
Psalm 112:1-8
Praise ye the Lord. Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.
2 His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.
3 Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.
4 Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.
5 A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion.
6 Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.
7 He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord.
8 His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies.

How can we apply these verses to our own life?

Answer:
When we trust in the Lord, we have nothing to fear. God is our refuge and strength. To live is Christ and to die is gain. It is win-win.

Scripture writing - Acts 16:29-34

Scripture:
29 Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,
30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.

Observations:
The prison guard washed Paul and silus’s wounds and fed them.

Application:
Hospitality is simply attending to the needs of a guest whoever they might be.

Prayer:
Dear God,
Help me to always show compassion and hospitality to my guests.
In Jesus's name,
Amen

Prompt: “Don't be ashamed to weep; 'tis right to grieve. Tears are only water, and flowers, trees, and fruit cannot grow without water. But there must be sunlight also. A wounded heart will heal in time, and when it does, the memory and love of our lost ones is sealed inside to comfort us.”

Scripture writing - Acts 16:13-15

Scripture:
13 And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.
14 And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.
15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.

Observations:
Lydia sold purple for a living. The Lord opened her heart to hear Paul's message. She and her household were baptized which indicates Salvation. She was hospitable in offering Paul and his company a place to stay. Apparently they were having a prayer meeting with the women.

Application:
It is the Lord that opens someone’s heart to receive the message of Salvation.

Prayer:
Dear God,
Help us to be a witness to others. Open their hearts to receive the message you have given us. Help us to do it with the right attitude and not think more of ourselves than we should think.
In the holy name of Jesus,
Amen

Sunday’s Scripture writing - 2 kings 6:21-23

Scripture:
21 And the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite them? shall I smite them?
22 And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.
23 And he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.

Observations:
The King of Israel showed hospitality to his captives.

Application:
As a result of hospitality shown, relations were improved with the other nation.

Prayer:
Dear God,
Help us to always show hospitality and peace to others. Help us to build healthy and safe relationships.
In Jesus’s name,
Amen

Day 2061: April 5, 2021

Prompt theme: Renewal - “We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us. The old skin has to be shed before the new one can come.” —Joseph Campbell

How does this quote relate to renewal.

It is hard to obtain the new when you are still hanging onto the old. It is like Salvation in Christianity. We must put off the sinful ways of the flesh and begin to live in the new ways of the Holy Spirit, living a righteous life in Christ.

Take UP Your Cross

Prompt:
Psalm 94:12
12 Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O Lord, and teachest him out of thy law;
13 That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit be digged for the wicked.

Why are we blessed when God chastens us? What do these verses mean?

Answer:
We are blessed when God chastens us because he is treating us as a loving Father treats his children. He is wanting us to correct the bad behavior so we will have Godly character. God teaches us his laws so we can follow them.

Scripture writing - 1 Timothy 5:3, 9-10

Scripture:
3 Honour widows that are widows indeed.

9 Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man.
10 Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.

Observations:
Verse 3- Honour true widows.
Verse 9- A widow under 60 is not a helpless widow.
Verse 10- Talks about why you should help widows.

Application:
I am not a huge fan of this topic. I believe in helping widows when they need it, but we do not live in an ideal world. There are many a res of gray. The Bible does help define some of these areas where others, such as this one, I feel a bit uncomfortable with. Just because a widow isn’t 60 years old, shouldn't make her not a true widow. I think circumstances need to be examined in the situation. It is like saying in this passage that all unmarried women under 60 are busy bodies and gossips. This is not always true even if it may be common. I am not sure how to deal with Scriptures and churches who seem to make unfair rules just because it is worded and interpreted a certain way in the Bible.

Prayer:
Dear God,
If I am wrong in my attitude towards this, correct me. Help me to have the attitude towards widows and others that you desire me to have.
In Jesus’s name,
Amen

Do you think the eyes are a window to a person's soul? What does eye contact mean to you?

I do believe this, yes. I love looking a person in the eyes. For one, I like seeing their eye color. By looking someone in the eyes, you can read a lot of things non-verbally about them. You can see when some people are lying. You can see if there is happiness or sadness in their eyes. Sometimes you can even sense evil from someone’s eyes. You can sense other emotions too if you pay close enough attention to it.

Hi everybody

I am sending the prompt slightly earlier than usual. I wanted to send it before I got sidetracked and forgot. Your captain is a lot like the absentminded professor. I'm usually pretty smart but can go to the bathroom and forget why I'm there! lol

Today cruising through the WDC galaxy we got a distress call from RandyJohnson71 (6) who writes about his wife learning to play violin. I tried to learn to play guitar, but I live at the WV Veterans Home. The guys said it sounded like I was "skinning cats" and the poor cats were alive! (Yes. I'm terrible.)

Probably storage or a spare bedroom/ work out room. Maybe all 3. I make crafts, but I don't want to be confined to one area. I like to go to different rooms to work on different crafts. Otherwise, I might make it a craft room instead.

Take UP Your Cross

Prompt:
Matthew 24:43-47
43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.

How can we be wise and faithful servants?

Answer:
To be a wise and faithful servant of Christ means to follow him with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength without turning back. It means to be ready for him to return at any time. It is keeping our heart right with him.

Scripture writing - 1 Timothy 3:1-7

Scripture:
1 This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

Observations:
Verse 1- It is good for a man to desire a position in office in a church.
Verse 2- This person should have a good reputation, not have known sin, husband of one wife, sober, observant, hospitable, able to teach, and on his best behavior.
Verse 3- Doesn't get drunk or do drugs, is not violent, not greedy, not a fighter, not coveting others’ property but should be patient .
Verse 4- one who is able to control his children.
Verse 5- How can a man take care of a church if he can't rule his own house?
Verse 6- not a beginner so he isn’t overcome with pride..
Verse 7- He should also be able to have a good reputation and relations with people outside the church.

Application:
Only a very good man should hold a high position in the church.

Prayer:
Dear God,
I pray for the men of my church who hold the higher positions that they may maintain a good reputation and fulfill your will for them and their families.
In Jesus's name,
Amen

Do you have an ongoing project going? Are you doing it to benefit others or yourself?

I always have something happening. I have several things just on this website. I hope to benefit others more than myself. I am trying to make and sell crafts. That benefits the buyer and myself. I want to learn to play the guitar, and that will also benefit others and myself. I am a caregiver to my roommate also. Life is not just about me. It is about what I contribute to the good of others too. I want the world to be a better place because I was in it.

Big Bunny

The grasshoppers were a loitering
The beautiful daffodils dancing
Eggs all over the place

The big bunny left quick as lightning.

Have you ever been bitten by alcohol? Tell us your favorite party memory.

I am the daughter of a preacher. Sooooo, yes. 🤪 When I first got out of high school, I went a bit wild. I did not disappoint the reputation of preacher’s kids. I didn't do the hard drugs, thank God. I huffed when I was a teenager. Then after high school, I got my own apartment. My best friend teases me by telling me it had its own revolving party door. I have a few stories I could tell, but don't have time for that right now. I guess my favorite would be the night I decided to have a drinking contest with one of my guy friends. We had other friends around so they could keep the tally. We both sat down across from each other on a bar stool. My apartment had a breakfast bar at the time. I can't remember how many beers we drank. We both drank until he passed out. I was okay until I tried to get up and walk. Yeah, that didn't go so well. But hey! I won the contest. Although I had a nice mess to clean up the next day. Looking back now, I realize how foolish that was.

Take UP Your Cross

Prompt:
Like 6:20-23
20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.
21 Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.
22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.
23 Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.

How do these differ from the beatitudes in Matthew 5? What can we take from these verses for ourselves?

Answer:
These verses do not list all of the beatitudes that are listed in Matthew chapter 5, and they are worded a little differently. These verses speak more specifically about ways you can be persecuted. Matthew 5 mentions it too, but I feel these verse have a little more detail to add with Matthew 5. We can take from this that life is hard, but rejoice in the Lord always. We win in the end. 😃

Scripture writing - 1 Peter 4:8-11

Scripture:
8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Observations:
Verse 8- Above all, have intense love among yourselves. Love is full of forgiveness.
Verse 9- Be hospitable without hold grudges or expecting anything in return.
Verse 10- Our spiritual gifts are meant to be shared with others.
Verse 11- Do everything to the glory of God.

Application:
Love is full of forgiveness so love each other intensely. Show hospitality without grudges or expecting anything in return. Share your spiritual gifts with others and do everything to God's glory.

Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father,
Teach me to love others intensely. Help me not to hold grudges or unnecessary expectations towards others. Let me be wise in sharing my gifts with others. Let everything I do glorify you.

Amen

Depression is depressing. 😢 Yes, I have been there. I came very close to throwing myself into a lake to drown myself. It was literally a vision of Jesus and and ex-boyfriend that prevented me from doing it. I don't like to remember this. It was a very dark place that I never want to visit again. I had felt like all hope was completely gone and nothing was ever going to change or get better. It is a permanent solution to a temporary problem when you commit suicide. This feeling is not a place anyone wants to be. If you feel yourself going there please make others aware of it even if you have to scream to the top of your lungs to anyone who will hear. It is preventable, and there is someone out there somewhere who cares even about a complete stranger.

There's some interesting background about April 1st in history. Discuss what you've learned. Share with us an interesting April 1st memory.

I did not realize April 1st used to be the new year a long time ago. This was interesting and informative to read today.

My mom would always tell me how my grandfather, her dad was a prankster. She would tell me how he pulled an April Fool's prank on another prankster. So he knew someone who would go around moving people's outhouses so they would fall into the hole. He got a brilliant idea to prank the prankster. He knew the prankster would be coming to move his outhouse. So he moved the outhouse first so the prank backfired. Needless to say, he enjoyed taunting the prankster before helping him out of the hole. The prankster never pulled that prank on my grandpa again. Of course, this wasn't just any hole. It was full of human wastes because back in the day, they didn't have indoor plumbing.
