Getting to know me.
One of the goals I set for myself this year was to create a blog. There are a lot of reasons I wanted to do this.
1. I think a blog will encourage me to write more often.
2. I want people to get to know me better, and hopefully I'll know more about you from your comments.

The grammar won't be perfect, but a blog is a more relaxed type of writing, I think. I want to share my, and Sir Trevor's, adventures and lots of other things too!

DAY 1843: December 2, 2017
Prompt: Many of you collect trinkets. If you collect trinkets find one that you especially like or one with a seasonal theme. Write a poem or story that reflects the theme of the trinket. Post the trinket with the story/poem, and a thank you to the person who created the trinket. If you don't collect trinkets, find a song or quote with a seasonal theme and write a story or poem following the theme. Please post a link so we can find the song or the quote.

I have collected 280 so far and have created 4. It's difficult to choose only one as I have so many favourites! I've decided to go for seasonal, instead.

A big thank you to 🌕 HuntersMoon who created this trinket on October 7, 2016. It has brought back some happy childhood memories.

When I was a child, our Jack O Lantern was magical. During the evening it produced several candy kisses! My mum would say, “Have you looked in the pumpkin tonight?” I would go lift the lid carefully avoiding the candle's flame and pull out three candy kisses.

Carving the Jack O Lantern and anticipating the sweet treats was a fun Halloween tradition.

Day 1837 November 24, 2017
37 days left in the year, have you accomplished your goals for the year? If you have what was your secret to success? If you haven't do you have a plan or are you going to begin again in the new year.

I read this prompt and had a good laugh! *Rolling* The first thought that came to me was. You've got to be kidding I haven't even got through my Weekly Goals!

I went back and read my Dear Me letter and no I haven't accomplished all the goals. My plan is to keep going into the New Year and add more goals to them for 2018 for the next Dear Me letter.

I think if there were a secret to success it would be to focus on your goals and like the Nike commercial says, Just Do It.

DAY 132: November 21, 2017
Prompt: Use the title Night Patrol for a story or poem.

Feline Night Patrol

It was a hectic shift last night; visibility reduced by heavy snow made it difficult to see much further than the patio door. However, I did my feline duty, ever watchful for threats from outside. My name is Sir Trevor and my job is to protect us, I mean Mum, from danger.

Mum puts sunflower seeds in the bird feeder, but all sorts of critters are addicted to those seeds and some of them are rather shady characters.

Between keeping watch close to the glass door I check on Mum to be sure she's still breathing and I keep an eye on my food bowl.

While on one of these missions I heard crunching in the snow sounds coming from outside. With my belly close to the ground I crept toward the patio door. Three large creatures were standing on the patio eating seeds. Mum calls these beasts deer and she likes them. She doesn't realize the damage they could do to the glass doors with their big hooves. Why they could come right through the glass and into the living room! I backed away from the area and went to check on Mum again.

When I returned a black and white creature caught my eye. I wrinkled my nose because he smelled horrible; once again I backed slowly away.

I decided it would be safer, for Mum, if I crawled into bed with her. I snuggled up to Mum and purred softly, sure everything would be all right now.

No Prompt. *Shock2*

DAY 1831: November 20, 2017

Prompt: November 20 is Universal Children's Day. Write a story, poem, or blog entry about children.

Established in 1954, United Nations Universal Children’s Day promotes international togetherness and awareness among children worldwide, and hopes to improve children's welfare.

UNICEF and organizations like Feed the Children strive to better the lives of children worldwide, but if you watch the TV news or do a search on the internet it seems like we're fighting a losing battle. We've all seen the pictures of children sleeping and begging on the streets.

More than 250 million children live in countries where there is armed conflict. Thousands of young boys, if not millions, are forced to serve as soldiers and many young girls are raped. Canada is one country that has opened our arms to refugees, but many still live in refugee camps waiting to come. We do our best, but there is too great a need.

Here at home abuse occurs in homes, schools, and sports events within our communities, by parents, relatives, teachers, and coaches. All people our youth think they can trust.

Today, Universal Children's Day, we all should pray for a better future for children everywhere, but prayer is not enough we need to get involved in whatever ways we can to help these kids. I think together we can change things!

Until next time,

DAY 1825 November 14, 2017
What are your thoughts about Edgar Allen Poe's quote? "All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream."

The quote is taken out of context so it has little or no meaning for me. But when I read the entire first verse the meaning becomes clearer.

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow-
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

It's a beautiful poem. What comes to my mind is perhaps a relationship ending. It has been my experience that we often see in our partners what we want to see and we make the whole relationship into what we naively want it to be. In that case, all that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.
This is just my interpretation of the quote and most likely not what Edgar Allen Poe intended at all.

Until next time,

DAY 1798 October 18, 2017

What can you find at home that you can find nowhere else?

Quite often I'm not able to go out for long periods of time so I've worked hard to make my home my haven.

Here I can find peace and comfort that's difficult to find in a hospital setting. Home is the only place I can find my feline companion, Sir Trevor. *Laugh*

Home is where I have my books, my craft supplies, my scrapbooking supplies, and other possessions for my enjoyment. Possessions are just material things that can be replaced, but still are necessary to make a home a place you want to be.

The most important part of my home is the family and friends who come to visit. I'm grateful they're happy and feel comfortable to join me in my little haven and I think they consider it a haven for them, too.

DAY 1744 August 25, 2017
Prompt: Write about the smallest insect you've ever seen.

No-See-Ums, But You Sure Feel 'Em

No-See-Ums are tiny blood-sucking gnats. They're so tiny they come through screen windows. Only the females bite, but for such a tiny insect they have a powerful bite!

My mum was horribly allergic to these little critters and once bitten the area around the bites would swell, turn an angry red and become infected. Mum would get several bites at a time even though she wore long sleeved tops and long pants. Each spring she would get an injection to protect her through the summer.

Showing up at dusk, the No-See-Ums would swarm around our heads making for an unpleasant evening stroll or camp fire.
Although the rest of the family would get attacked, only Mum would have a bad reaction. I remember Mum saying, “ You don't see um, but you sure do feel em!”

DAY 1721: August 2, 2017

Prompt: “The month of August had turned into a griddle where the days just lay there and sizzled.”
― Sue Monk Kidd, The Secret Life of Bees
How would you describe August?

In August the first signs of fall make us sit up and take notice. Here in Quebec, the days are hot and humid and the nights are cool. The days are noticeably shorter.

On my way shopping to a near by town on Saturday I noticed the hay has all been cut, the corn is waist high and being sold at roadside stands. Brown eyed Susans are waving merrily in the breeze and a few maple leafs have begun to change colour!

As the prompt suggests the days just lay there and sizzle making me wish I'd installed an AC! Instead, I keep the blinds closed to block out the scorching rays of the sun, run all the fans on high and keep emptying the dehumidifier!

August is the perfect time for swimming, picnics in the shade, backyard BBQs, and campfires in the evening., roasting hot dogs and marshmallows and catching up with friends and neighbours around the fire.

Sometimes there is a sudden downpour and lightning lights up the evening sky. Time to run for the shelter of the house!

DAY 1720 August 1, 2017
Prompt:
Do you follow all the twitter trash talk that seems to be the political norm these days? Do you think this is going to continue to be a political norm with our future leaders?

No, I don't follow the twitter trash talk of the President and other politicians. I don't think anyone has the right to insult people just because they don't agree with the politicians that are posting this garbage. This isn't the way adults in power should conduct themselves.

I hope it's not going to be a political norm with our future leaders. Unfortunately, a new standard has been set and I don't see it going away anytime soon.

Time for an update:

This is the first Blog entry I've made in four months! *Shock2* I was just too sick and weak. Finally, after surgery and 8 weeks of IV antibiotics, I'm feeling so much better! Thank you for all your prayers, you guys are great!

This is such old news now. My story,"Canada, eh? won Honourable Mention in the Quill Awards for Best Political Opinion! I was stunned!
Image for use by Honorable Mentions in the 2016 Quill Awards

On to the more recent stuff:
I have left the NAG and am now a member of Leading Lights. I've opened my own forum "Reviewing with River I hope you will check it out. I may have picked a bad time to open with GOT just starting. *FacePalm*

There is a Forum Discussion going on for August and I hope some of you will join in! Each participant will receive 1000 GPs at the end of the month.

Eventually, I will need judges. Any Volunteers?

My biggest worry at the moment is building up the bank. I'm offering an MB of your choice for 40,000 (or more GPs.30, 000 will go directly to the bank!

I have finished my morning coffee and brought you up to date a bit. Onward to my Power Breakfast, guaranteed to help me gain weight while putting me in a diabetic coma.

Have a great August first!
