As a person who lives in South Florida for half a year, I must admit I am out of there in May. It's just too hot to do anything outside with that sun blazing down. If I'm going to be stuck inside an air conditioned house all summer it would be akin to me being stuck indoors all winter in New England. (I don't ski.) Therefore, I balance my seasons for the best of my weather comfort.
That aside, it does get hot here. It'll reach 100 degrees today. Oppressive heat. I will make a stove top pasta dish. I'll decide the protein later on. Boil up the pasta--add sauteed shrimp, perhaps.
But then we are spoiled in America. air conditioning is widely used here.
I love zucchini, and eggplant, and all kinds of peppers. I also like parsnips. I can't say there is one particular vegetable that I don't like as an adult. As a kid, I hated beets. I enjoy them, now.
I love spicy food. Indian is so flavorful! I'm a hot pepper person. I learned to enjoy the spicy stuff because I've lived in Texas. I acquired a taste for hot and spicy dishes.
Bubble and Squeak when I see that name, I can't help but remember Two Fat Ladies making that recipe. They were entertaining. Loved watching that show.
The Swedish "Janssons frestelse - an anchovy casserole" sounds interesting. I like anchovies. They are healthy for you. Although I can't say I've mixed them layered with dairy products.
I agree with Steph. Broccoli or even asparagus would probably be a good veggie choice.
I'm with Webbie, that's a whole lotta S**T just to S**T.
Honestly, I'm not much for exotic food. About the most exotic I'll go is Thai and even then I'm pretty picky about what I'll order sticking to more traditional chicken or pork dishes.
For me I would consider summer veggies as: Zucchini, summer squash, carrots, celery, cucumbers, iceberg lettuce. My grandmother would grow a spaghetti squash. She'd grow eggplant, too. Carrots.
I absolutely CANNOT stand peas. And Lima Beans. I avoid them like the plague. I'm not much of an egg fan. I like them in cake and that's it.
I guess I prefer more neutral flavored foods, having grown up in New England. Brent, loves spices, like hot peppers, but I'll take a pass on that.
I like the idea of adding Broccoli and sweetcorn. Maybe asparagus? Parsley is a good call for the top. I think it's a good idea to leave the peel on. I enjoy the potato peal. What type of adaptions can you do for the dairy?
Well, coming from a hotter clim, I do have some ideas. Mind you, SoCal doesn't really get hot until July (That when we typically hit 100 degrees F temps) and it stays like that until about mid October.
TIPS:
- drink plenty of cool water.
- get a rag, wet it, and occasionally pat your face, neck, and arms to cool yourself down.
- run the AC when the husband isn't home!
- Go to the beach - typically the coast is about 10-15 degrees cooler than my house.
- Go to a cooling center, a pool, watch a movie at an indoor theater, hang out at a mall
- popsicles
- windows open at night
- we usually grill food out doors on the grill, lots of salads, (get creative - chicken breast or tri tip on the salad), watermelon, fruits
Yes, the ads are about 3 minutes and I can't stand them! sigh... I was going to say that's one productive ad break. I usually scroll through my X account.
