Update on yesterday. My evening carer put together the quiches. Only problem she didn't understand my cooker - she turned on the grill instead of the oven. Luckily I smelt burning and rushed to the kitchen (I say rushed, as fast as my walker will allow). Managed to save one and cooked it properly. Ate half of it with some of the coleslaw.

Guess what I had for breakfast? It was actually better cold. That was a while ago and now I'm hungry again. Keep it simple today. Beans on toast maybe. I can manage that. Do I trust the evening carer with the cooking again? A ready meal in the microwave maybe - she can't mess that up.

Need to check my plants now that the wet spell is over. Hopefully they have had enough water. I'm growing herbs and tomatoes. They taste so much better than the supermarket fare. I've got parsley which goes well with fish. Then there's chives - they are good with cheese. Rosemary for lamb, thyme for a bit of Caribbean, sage with pork.

It will be a while before I get actual tomatoes. They're only about a foot tall at the moment. I wish I had the space to grow more of my own food.

It's Wednesday and I get a long care visit so that I have help to do some cooking. I have big plans for today. I'm thinking leek and potato soup, coleslaw, quiche and something sweet.

I have the ingredients, I have the help, what can go wrong? Visit cancelled, that's what. I struggled to make the coleslaw and that was the easiest part. My back's killing and I'm really tired. If I don't make the quiche today that will result in more food in the bin.

Why make your own I hear you ask? Have you seen any dairy free quiche in your local store? It's the same with soups, most contain dairy. I'm lucky really. My daughter has so many food allergies it's a wonder she can eat anything.

Have you ever had so much food you don't know what to do with it? I reached that stage today. My problem is I see a recipe I fancy, I buy the ingredients, then I am not well enough to do more than heat up a ready meal (TV dinner) or order a takeaway.

My freezers have now reached capacity. My cupboards are groaning from the weight. I open the fridge and I know from the smell that something has passed its use by date. I'm not even hungry.

What did I eat today? My breakfast was the remains of last night's takeaway - kofte and spicy spuds. It tasted great at six this morning, not so great when it began to repeat on me. The sandwich I bought for lunch was barely eaten before it hit the bin.

The teatime carer offered to heat up a ready meal - just the thought of it had me reaching for the heartburn medicine. Eventually I did feel a bit peckish. Crisps and dip, and some raspberries(got to have something healthy).
