In my view, the primary focus should be on encouraging the writers to write. I do not review items I don't enjoy anymore because I see it as a waste of my time. So, if you get a review from me, I enjoyed reading your work. The amazing thing about this whole process is that reading an inspiring review usually leads to me reading more of a reviewer's work also. So, it's a win-win.

I will not review...
something I do not like. I do not enjoy writing hyper-critical reviews. I do NOT believe that "honesty" is a synonym for "mean." If I see someone being "mean" here on the public reviewing page, in group behaviors, or just acting as a bully I will not send them my reviews. The only exception to that would be judging a site contest - there all items get honest (and hopefully diplomatic) reviews of the work from me with no exceptions.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

I thought that the use of the name "Gideon" was very appropriate and fitting. Your story is a chilling one that reminds me of a saying about never ask a question if you don't know the answer ahead of time.

You might want to use the last line as your title, if you are so inclined:

"Welcome to the Apocalypse”

I guess the argument against that would be that it might give too much away in the title.

Another title from me would be "Gideon's Lesson"

This is just something to consider as the story is fine as it is, Untitled.

You build up suspense really well and it is chilling to have an expert suddenly become something else. We count on experts to be objective and give us their opinion. We don't really typically see them as people who act.

They have a decided advantage of knowing the result ahead of time. Way ahead of time.

The title is good advice to anyone, but sometimes it is the hardest thing to do.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

The key is always time and the passage of time. If we just hang on, it will get easier. I think that is true because time changes how we look at things in subtle ways.

This was my favorite part because of the time reference:

"The cyclic chains of time portend
a rebirth as the seasons mend
together as the clock hands sweep.
Do not despair."

Also, you did a fine job with a difficult form. It flows very well. The more one says to not despair, the more despair one feels, but then suddenly it can lift.

Well, we never know as the future is a mystery. Monty is still here and going strong after a brief hiatus. Things have a way of sorting out of over time. There's that "time" thing again.

I thought about trying to make sense of life and dreams and how they interact. God keeping a watchful eye is comforting, I must admit. That's where you take me in the second stanza, finding a reason or cohesive thread through it all.

This was my favorite part:

"But, darkness cannot grasp the light;
starry Angels in the night also rising like the sun and setting
with the moon light.

There is an ethereal quality laced in with trying to figure out our dreams. It can be elusive, but rarely there might be clear or not depending on our ability to remember.

Very well written and thoughtful, with effective choice of language in a original and engaging flow. Well done!

I thought about how a positive outlook can change the way we approach each day or night. To see it as an embrace rather than a daunting challenge is a good start.

I particularly liked the third line of each stanza, in other words, the embrace. I will think of this poem as I go on my journey through the mornings and evenings and I will try to think of it all as a positive embrace.

You posted before me in "I Write: Enter the Second Decade"  so here I am to read and send a review. It is always my pleasure to read and review your work.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

To me, this is about taking control of the direction that one's life embarks upon at some point.

What leads me to that is the use of the word "Steering" as the first word of the poem. Of course, the element of good fortune runs through the narrative, the reference to having gas and what is needed to make the journey run smooth.

The message I get at the end is to rise above the criticism that we all face sooner or later and do one's own thing.

This was my favorite passage:

"where I finally divine and divest
on my Everest to rest
with the stories I'll sing."

I enjoyed it all. Directionally, one could not ask for a better resolution to a journey that we might control or we might not. It's definitely a question to be asked.

I thought about times I had the same thing happen because I was over confident. The best test results (for me) came when I was nervous and unsure of how well I could do. It made me double check everything, which is the lesson learned here - to make sure of the answers.

This is an intriguing idea. The title fits what develops here.

I think that a lot fades over time, but it is interesting to think that even guilt takes on a different form.

I would recommend double spacing between paragraphs to make the reading easier on the eyes. That's more related to personal preference (mine) than anything else.

I was interested in the notion that there is no going back once something is set in motion. It just gets repeated endlessly through time somehow so that the tragedy and meaning of life gets lost in the mix.

As a reader, I'm left with the notion that at least the protagonist tried, again and again apparently.

Your story is short, but well told. Nice work.

This is thoughtful and engaging. I had to look up salutary to find out it means "unwelcome". There weren't a lot of words, but what you had here, and the title, required me to use my brain.

You build up the suspense throughout to see what happened to Sally. I kept thinking that she has the perfect husband, so understanding and generous. Why would she long for anything?

The ending was funny. I was glad that nothing worse than what happened, happened. Still, it's a permanent price to pay for a night of fun. Never go out and drink or whatever so much that one can't remember is the lesson.

I live in a tornado prone area, whereas I grew up in an area that rarely had them. It is a weird feeling when you know one is coming off the mts. I live in what is called "foothills" not the plains, so usually the storm weakens in the mts.

It is more scary to me that the storm would intensify in strength in the mts, as it does here. It really is alarming when it's reported matter of factly. Its like a inevitable path somehow. I think you have captured that in the intensity and phrasing of your fine poem.

I thought about their ages. You never tell it to the reader and leave it up to the imagination. I was wondering, at first, where James James got off giving his mother a stern talking to.

It reminded me of my nephew who used to order my parents out of their own house. Nervy. LoL

I thought about not answering when they knock. That is something that not everyone agrees with, but I do.

Your poem flows very well and I learned a new word, "perdu".

I took it to mean "lost" here. The swipe at the French was clever!

*Cow*I am a judge for " Unicorn, Bunny Writing Contest Closed"  and it is my pleasure to read and review your story.

What does tHiNg think about while perusing your item?

I thought about friendship and how motivated Cecil is to make his friend, Bradley Bunny, feel better. He tries his best and then figures something out and takes it to him, for them both to enjoy. Not finding a rainbow he can get hold of, Cecil adapts his choice and finds something even better to perk up his buddy.

Lifting Bradley's spirits is very important to his good friend. You can tell that Cecil takes more joy in his friend's well being than his own, which makes him a quietly heroic and admirable character. Can't ask for more than that.

I thought that the way you described things was enchanting, it created a picture as I read. Very imaginative description and, of course, an inspiring friendship where one cares about the other so much.

I thought about attachment and communication that can come from just a look or gestures. There is a whole language between human and cat or dog. It is for the human to learn how to respond, the cat does it by instinct about who is good.

I especially like the appreciation for the relationship that is to be cherished for as long as it is here and remembered and held dear later. In many ways there is a romance and enchantment to it that is a delicate balance of the heart.

I am reading and reviewing the Writer's Cramp entries since I am the judge for today. I found all the entries to be very moving.

What Does THiNG think about while perusing your item?

I thought about how the loss of the relationship is tied into the loss of Sherbert. The feelings run deep in both arenas, but decisions had to be made, as is the case in life and moving forward. Sometimes we overlook things that we shouldn't just to keep the peace.

I liked how things were resolved in the end and there is a sense that a chapter has finally ended, where there might have been a lose end of connection. The pain of loss is still palpable.

Sherbert is part of the happy memories as our animal friends most times are.

This poem really captures the resignation of acceptance of the inevitable loss. You have to take care of one whose devotion is so steadfast and true. No doubt about that.

The hope for the future rings out. This was a hard thing because my own 14 plus year old pup passed recently. I wanted to let you know I connected with this very strongly.

What Does THiNG think about while perusing your item?

This poem presents a unique point of view - that of a breeze or bit of wind. Wind controls so much and steers and guides so much that we take for granted most of the time.

It must look very small below from that vantage point. Very small, indeed.

But I like the generous view that seeks to avert danger.

It is hard to pick a favorite because it all moves along so well with your rhyme scheme and word choices.

This is my favorite part:

"It soared with charm and subtle grace
above the sea below.
My breeze assumed a steady pace

It flows so seamlessly throughout, though. I felt transported to a place by the sea. I haven't been there in years, but your poem took me to a place of calm that I love.

I clicked on the Read and Review icon on the left side of the screen and it brought me to your fine story. It is my pleasure to read and send a review on a fine morning in September.

What does thing think about while reading this?

I notice that you use foreshadowing very effectively. I got a feeling from the start, because of the setting, but did not know where you were going.

This took me along with joy for Angela's achievement, but joy mixed with so much sadness and regret looking back. It's as if events moved irrevocably, all timed to result in such a tragedy.

What does tHiNg applaud about while reading your item?

I thought you did a good job of presenting the concept of forgiveness and how it is hard fought in situations like these. Some never get there. Can it be a catharsis as it was here for Selena? I'm not sure and the father's reaction and the fact that he is stuck in a time warp, argues for an answer in the affirmative.

You are a very talented storyteller as you hooked me in from the start and your story made me stop, think and count my blessings in a time when it's more easy to give in to feeling sad.

*Cool**Idea*I thought about the nightingale and it's mystery. You poetically capture its mystique quite well.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I enjoyed the emphasis on honesty and the vivid recollection of the scene and time of year in he first verse especially. This ties in well with the reference to a memory that lingers at the end.

Nicely done from start to finish!

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

This was the first time I understood what took him. For some reason, I thought it was a heart issue. I remember seeing footage of him riding his bike the day before where he looked so happy and carefree. That made me think he biked into heaven in his mind.

I enjoyed your interpretation of the songs and their meanings. His work was all memorable and I am sure he would be happy to have such an appreciative and informative article about his work and his legacy.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

This is a lovely tribute to two admirable and modern ladies. I am glad you decided to focus on them.

Princess Diana will do what she can to make things right for her sons from her divine power. I am still waiting for her to work her magic a little more in the other areas best left unexplored.

I read that Kate did a photography book about Covid 19 in England. It's called, "Hold Still." She seems like she has genuine feeling and compassion for people when they are suffering.

I think she and Diana both have felt genuine things for people. May both of Diana's children find genuine love and happiness one day.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

I thought about the royal family. I think Meghan is jealous of Kate. You are right about that. Kate will be Queen probably. The highest Meghan can go is Duchess.

She was 36 when she married Harry, not 19 like Diana. She wants to be beloved like Diana was. But Diana had some good qualities that shined through all her troubles.

To me, Meghan is all about the money and power. When she realized that Harry is a low level royal and highest she could go is probably Duchess, she got bored.

I had never thought about how Diana didn't have any support. You make a great point. Meghan has had Harry's support all the time. Charles could never be bothered. Meghan fights with her own father and family other than her mother. She was divorced.

But the women Harry liked in England before Meghan couldn't handle the thing with the press. I think Harry would have married one of them if they would have had him. Meghan can look okay with a lot of makeup, but isn't a natural beauty like Kate or Diana.

I think watching the Crown may have messed with Harry's mind some. I know that it got me when I watched it, I was angry on Diana's behalf all over again. I don't think Harry has all his oars in the water.

Great analysis of something that is of very current interest - well done!

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

I thought about what makes our own experiences unique. It is definitely the twists and turns that are different from others.

The rhymes are at times somewhat unexpected (not predictable) and that's a good thing - keeps with the mood of originality and the ultimate conclusion.

Your poem takes an interesting twist in the loving confession of the "lie" that ended up being the "truth" in a lot of ways.
