In my view, the primary focus should be on encouraging the writers to write. I do not review items I don't enjoy anymore because I see it as a waste of my time. So, if you get a review from me, I enjoyed reading your work. The amazing thing about this whole process is that reading an inspiring review usually leads to me reading more of a reviewer's work also. So, it's a win-win.

something I do not like. I do not enjoy writing hyper-critical reviews. I do NOT believe that "honesty" is a synonym for "mean." If I see someone being "mean" here on the public reviewing page, in group behaviors, or just acting as a bully I will not send them my reviews. The only exception to that would be judging a site contest - there all items get honest (and hopefully diplomatic) reviews of the work from me with no exceptions.

*Cool**Idea*I thought about how Amazon steps in to do a lot when there is trouble. So sorry to read about Rudolph and hope he makes a full recovery.

Santa is resourceful and knows who to call. I guess with all his years of experience there would logically be a back-up plan of action. So, Christmas is cancelled, but will amazon create the illusion of Christmas? Will they call it Bezos-mas?

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I liked the humorous banter between Mr. and Mrs. Claus. It is good to maintain a positive attitude and look to thinking outside the box in order to find a solution.

That sounds like the kind of thing they would say to each other at amazon, doesn't it? I enjoyed reading your story and was glad it was fictional for Rudolph's sake.

What does tHiNg think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea*I thought about my own marriage which is a long time. It is good to feel so positive about those we love more than a decade (or three in my case) of being together.

There is also some humor in this. I think it takes a sense of humor to make a relationship stand the test of time in appreciating that we all change physically as the years creep over us. It is what is inside that counts and that becomes clearer as I age.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I liked the rhyme and the message that is here that one appreciates a romantic love, but also a constant one based in friendship. That's how I took it anyway.

What does tHiNg think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I thought about how you convey a lot in this short, 24 syllable poem. The first part is idyllic, how it should be and how we would all love it to be.

The last line, with the shoving to get to the food, is more realistic from my experience. This is how the young ones tend to behave at times. But in the years to come they will remember it with mist in their eyes just like I do now. I know I wasn't such a dream child all the time when company came for holiday dinners. Quite in keeping with that last line.

What does hooves moo and tHiNg applaud about while reading your item?

I like how you manage to impart a lot of things on your reader with few words. Each word is well chosen and I guess that is the point of doing the 24 syllable thing, to get to the heart of the matter with just a few words.

What does tHiNg think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I thought about what an unruly group of siblings mother nature has to cope with in the seasons. You personify them just right, with spring being the most flighty and headstrong. I find that to be the case every year.

But they never seem to be able to stick to that plan do they? I wrote as summer continued to linger way into October. *Headbang*


What does tHiNg applaud about while reading your item?

I thought this was timely and very amusing. It helps to picture the seasons as troublesome children who will not listen. If only they and everything could be so organized, eh? But that's a dream that will rarely come true and never all sticking to the plan in one year. I don't think that's ever happened in my lifetime that I can remember. There is always one outlier or renegade in the mix.

This year I long for fall in the same way I thought that there wasn't any spring. We went right from winter to summer, you just can't please me I reckon. *Laugh*

Your story is very entertaining and timely and it made me smile. Very fine!

What does tHiNg think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* This made me laugh out loud, which is a good thing. The poor guy can't say much right can he? He reminds me of Moseley on Downton Abbey. Are you familiar with that hapless character? If he were ever to propose, I anticipate something along these lines and he's supposed to be in the 1920's. He rarely gets much right.

Trying to be politically correct in these current confusing times inevitably leads into a lot of trouble. I feel great empathy for the young man in this as I laugh at him. Truly, I do. *Laugh*

What does tHiNg applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* To me a comedy story should make one laugh out loud and yours did that. I can hear it in my head as dialogue. It reminds me of some of the complicated, fast talking on a TV show called, The Gilmore Girls. This snappy dialogue could be at home on any TV show or movie and leave the viewer/reader very amused in the process.

In other words, I loved it!

What does tHiNg think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I thought about the amusing banter between these hapless burglars. At first it seems like Mort is the brains of the outfit and in many ways he is. However, Jimmy seems more in touch and intuitive - at least more observant of his surroundings and because of that he has a better time of it and more coping skills.

The foreshadowing is deliciously ominous.

The love of a kitty cat can be a very powerful force. I liked the plans for Marie, also. Jimmy presents a much more sympathetic character and Mort is the self-appointed leader of the expedition. He's a bit full of himself and needs his just deserts delivered in such a shocking and magical way, if you ask me. He ignores Jimmy's admonitions at his ultimate peril.

What does tHiNg applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* I thought your story was very well told and chillingly amusing, which goes right with reading it in this month leading up to Halloween. Your descriptions took me right there with you and all the dialogue seemed very true to character and situation, with many a chuckle at these inept thieves.

I enjoyed reading and contemplating Mort's ultimate fate. He'd better watch out in that tank. *Laugh*

What does tHiNg think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* This was very amusing for everyone but the husband. He has a reckoning coming his way. I was wondering what a taste for "ear" might do to a kitty cat. I won't get my haircut without thinking about that ear of his. Very memorable.

I guess it's a lesson about being careful what you wish for with the wife and not to fully trust for the husband.

What does tHiNg applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* I was amused by how quickly the wife adapted to and adjusted for the change in circumstances. At any cost, she wants to avoid being discovered for her mistake. Then there is how easily the husband was led to believe things had changed because of a different perspective. He does not come off as too bright in this whole scenario, while the wife seems to be in control of everything except the cat. While that is technically true, it seems as if the husband is easily led, which is pretty amusing and inspiring.

The prospect of the kitty taking more ear bites looms over the whole proceedings in a macabre and amusing way for everyone but the guy who has the ears in question.

This was inspiring of giggling in a chilling and frightening way. I respect all cats and give them their space. *shivers* It is also a voyage into the macabre for October reading and I appreciate that very much!

What does tHiNg think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I think that everyone who has ever had to work for a living will identify with your protagonist. Somewhere along the way a bully boss was encountered. It never seems to lead to anything good. The fight is a way to get some power back I reckon. The line is sort of blurred between good and evil once the trouble boils up.

I could picture it happening and the building rage. Well, you never know what will tip the scales toward catastrophe in one corner and jubilant victory in another. The analogy to the bad step parent scenario seemed to be an apt one.

What does tHiNg applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* The last bit about giving an incorrect name implies that our hero felt this was a doomed adventure right from the start.

I liked picturing the boss in this corner. It was a satisfying conclusion to a troublesome relationship. Very amusing also!

The first person narration is a good choice as it makes it easy for the reader to identify with our hero.

Don't feel bad about being disqualified. It's happened to me before as recently as last January, it happens. Just in the future read and reread the rules carefully before submitting is my best advice. That is what I am trying to do with my own stuff.

What does tHiNg/hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I thought about your syllables per line. You have a good rhythm going here. You maintain a couplet rhyme scheme throughout, using ten or less syllables.

My favorite lines are where you keep it to seven syllables, which you do a lot.

Watching syllable count is a tHiNg I like to do. Shakespeare kept it consistent and he did pretty well.

What does tHiNg/hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This part was my favorite couplet:

Ladybugs were crawling everywhere! (9 syllables, so still under 10)
Some were even in my hair! (7 syllables)

This could explain the itchy in your barn. Well, it even made me itch a little and also made me smile.

Greetings and salutations!!

I saw this poll and decided to take it but none of the choices applied, so here is a review with my thoughts.

I appreciate any and all reviews as long as they aren't mean or personally insulting or deliberately discouraging.

So, someone saying "Good job" means a lot to me. When I have met famous authors, I get shy and tongue tied and all I can say is I love your work. I could say a lot more, but it is a pat on the back I reckon. Some days logging in and seeing something that says "I enjoy your writing" can mean the difference between logging out for a day or a month to me. Or I connected with what you said is a big deal to me. I love it as a reader when I connect strongly to what I read.

There have been some here who are so kind and thorough and I give them points to show my appreciation, which is heartfelt.

There are also those here who wrote me detailed things where they tore me to shreds. Not the writing always, me personally. Or maybe it is hard to separate the two. I think sometimes the detailed critique-y-ers (sp?) don't know the difference there. Some of the ones who are most vain about their reviewing, don't have a clue what they are on about. And I say that as someone who regularly rewards public reviewers.

Like the Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart once opined, "I know it when I see it" when it comes to a good review. He was talking about something different, but the same thing applies.

Ratings are subjective opinions that I respect. I mark the later stuff so they can't rate it, and just tell me what they think though. Maybe I am contradicting myself there, but it's my choice.

*Cool**Idea*What a joyful and moving poetic tribute to a very beloved son.

I have a grandson (with red hair instead of the blond of your poem) who just turned 9. He still loved to cuddle and show me picture of baby animals when he was 8, but he's into sports also and very active. I related to this in a big way because of him, but from the point of view of a grandma.

It's fun to do anything with my grandchildren. *Heart* It is inspiring that you can stop and appreciate long enough to write poetry and capture the magic of your young man.

*Thumbsup* Children are such gifts to our lives, aren't they?

I also loved the notion that the world is their gym when they are into sports at that age and everything good (I hope) is ahead of them.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* You have an intriguing story about a family who holds their secrets close. They also know how to roll with the times and punches in order to survive.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I enjoyed the fact that legalizing something is usually bad for business. I wonder about that and the psychology behind supply and demand when it comes to an illegal substance. People always pay more for stuff when it is forbidden I reckon.

This sounds like a smart, if somewhat nefarious type of family. Nefarious is a word I use a lot lately because I enjoy it. Maybe it applies here and maybe not. I went with it does apply. It read like the beginning of something longer, but you pack a lot of information and intrigue and interest into a few words.

*Cow* I gave the prompt for this in "The Writer's Cramp" . I was not the ultimate judge, but I was interested to see what you writers would do.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

In a story, rich in description and imagination a bad day turns around with a romantic twist.

You might be interested to know that the prompt came from a visit I made to a local Italian restaurant on Monday evening. The waitress came out of the back of the place, waving a high heeled shoe that she found under a table. My husband and I and the owner of the restaurant started to muse about what could be the story behind the shoe and a prompt was born.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I like the heart that went into this and the notion that something on a very bad day can be turned around into the best day in a character's life. What a wonderful and inspiring thought! Maybe this could be developed into a longer story or a novel. I was curious to see what might happen between the characters.

I noticed that you did not put your word count in the contest forum as required. You get this with that editing gear thing. When you edit and point at the gear, one of the choices is "Word count". Once you get this you can post it in the contest forum in the future. For poems, we require a line count, for short stories, word count. Just a word to the wise for future reference.

*Cool**Idea* This is very suspenseful and had me on the edge of my seat, wondering what would happen next. Your descriptions are impeccable and you set the scene very well using my prompt.

*Cool**Idea* It is good for the kitten the way things worked out. You never know when you will be in a position to help someone else to have a better life.

I liked how India revealed her soft heart through helping the kitten. She didn't have to say anything because her actions said it all. Sometimes people are noble in what they do in life and this is one of those times.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I think that all of your rules make a lot of sense, common sense. I don't think a lot of people have it now. I do not know why that is true.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

My big thing is these guys who walk around in stores and in parking lots screaming into their cell phones with bad language. I have seen that a number of times lately. If I am getting into my car near them I like to lay on the horn close to them.

Sometimes I am convinced there is no one on the other end and it's a one way conversation. But just in case it's not I like for the other party to realize that other people are hearing the whole thing from the other side. Just my way of scolding without engaging I guess.

All these make a lot of sense, which is in short supply these days everywhere.

*Cool**Idea* In this world of deception and outright lies, it is hard to know what to believe. To trust it. I don't think that we can ever do that, without closer inspection. Everything has a reason and an agenda behind it, unless you account for faith in the mix.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This part stays with me:

"Spilling out wisdom
Of course at a price
Sanity is an illusion
Perpetrated upon
The collected masses"

Maybe the only thing that reveals the "truth" to all of us is time. The passage of time and patience is what is needed to see beyond the lies.

*Cow* You sent me a very nice review. I am late with this visit because I was in one of those pits you describe so well. I would get on here, intending to review, then think what is the point. Not a fun place, but I am sorry for the delay.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* The title really does say a lot. Regret is a hard thing, but sorrow. That can break us if we don't watch out. When I have the regretful feelings, I get angry.

The sorrow can lay me out flat. It makes a lot of effort seem pointless.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This part at the beginning was my favorite:

"I've been down the road of
regret and sorrow.
It's littered with tantalizing glass,
sharp metal, and unanswered promises."

Unanswered promises. That is a tricky thing too. It could be a minefield, depending on who is doing the answering.

I thought this was powerful and moving. Sometimes, we read things on here when we are meant to read them. I believe that today I was meant to read your eloquent words. I have a lot of anger that I have to work out about the way some things have been done. That's never an easy or fun journey. But we keep trying to try. That's all that we can do and move forward in life and on here I reckon.

*Cow* I am doing the I Write in 2019 activity and you posted before me in the forum. It is my pleasure to read your short story, written for the Musicology Anthology activity.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* This story is told in character dialogue and that is certainly an effective way of unfolding the tale. The protagonist, Jimmy, is roped into a big event at the White House, followed by a poker game with the rich and powerful of Washington, including the President. The night is capped off with escorting the fictional First Lady, named Juliette.

I was sort of imagining a combination of Mrs. Kennedy and Mrs. Trump as the glamour puss first lady.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* I enjoyed the notion that someone normal could bring joy into the life of someone who has very little options, but is seen as powerful in their own right.

The story flows well and has some humor and the dialogue reads naturally as one encounters those one does not ordinarily mix with. Jimmy comes through as the class of the bunch.

I enjoyed reading your story.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea*You pack a lot into a short, 24 syllable poem.

I could identify with the feelings expressed as I am dealing with a sick family member right now, who cannot tell me what it is because she is my dog.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I applaud that line about the "wounded healer" who feels the pain of the suffering and wants to help, that is a frustrating position to be in and all you can do is do your best and wait for God and medicine to do the rest.

Waiting is hard, when someone you love is suffering that's for sure.

You have managed to convey a virtual hug in your words. Well done!

When times get hard, there are those who choose to pile on. There are plenty of those around in life and on the internet. But then there are those who are there for us, who are our rays of sunshine through the darkest times.

This was my favorite part:

"You rejuvenate my barren heart with the shower of your faith"

It is nice to think that someone can be there like that for someone else.

I think this is timeless, even though it was originally written a while back. Some things don't change. What was missing was their noses in those infernal cell phones. Too much communication now, mumbled the grandparent from the sidelines.

I did chuckle at this and shake my head. We don't know how good we had it back then. Wonderful work!
