Honest, for the most part. Not hurtful, for the most part. In other words I'll try to be straight up but not step on you face while I'm about it. Oh, by the way, this points business confuses me. I don't want to charge for a review. If I have the points in the bank I'll refund you 900. Why I'm required to ask 1000 is past my understanding.
I'm good at...
Not much. Grammar, spelling, punctuation, most of the mechanical stuff. Good eye for composition. I read a lot and I can give you a reader's opinion. Most good reviews are a fresh eye.

When I grow up I want to write like Max Griffin... There's the first line of a good story.
Not as good as this one I 'll wager because this was the example for want- to- be writers.
Grammatically perfect, well formatted, elegantly structured and lotsa other adverbs are descriptive of this piece. I appreciated the way the scene was made visual for the reader.

This came to my attention through the "read&review" feature.

Charming story that educated me about a few things. I have read a number of fictional pieces that center on India and to a lesser extent Pakistan. I have an advantage in this as I worked for a few years with a man from Pakistan and he told me a few things about his country and culture.
Thanks for sharing. the character of the rash young suitor was well drawn and he felt my sympathy throughout.

A prayer in the manner of the old testament psalms. Not something you see every day. I wonder if "remember" is the exact right word, but The choice is yours to make. I do think ," I remember the strive," is not above editing. It is a poem /prayer of celebration more that memory. Thanks for sharing.

Well I never imagined the hero of the tale to be the evil king. Although this reimagining of the tale is excellent you leave me hanging as to the eventual fate of Scheherazade. now you can't leave such a cliffhanger languishing in your portfolio. Get busy and gin up a happy, or at least interesting resolution for our girl.

Reads like a riddle, but my tired brain is too fuse blown to puzzle it out. I do recall the renaming of certain fish for marketability. the Chilean Sea Bass was once the Patagonian tooth fish. Good for the fish business to have a more attractive name than Slimehed or Snotfish.

Nice nostalgia piece. We had a neighborhood lot that supported a homemade backboard and hoop. the ground was so slanted you had to chase if you missed, and we missed a lot. good exercise. We had one ball, the old leather bound Bob Cousey kind. Anyway thanks for the memories.

That was a corker. Without your smart aleck hand for humor it would have been just another fabulous adventure tale. I was hooked in the first paragraph and stayed for the finish. Seriously, don't be serious, it's wasted on a writer with a funny bone to share.

I like reading things that step outside my usual boxed in reading perimeter. This piece did that, and did it well. This microcosm life in a nutshell story is luxurious in its tightness. I see reviewers comment that they want to see more. This wasn't that kind of piece. this was sufficiency.

There are a few grammatical errors and at least one difficult sentence. Nits aside, it was a well thought out piece of writing, surprised passion on the page and clever construction withal. A reader will enjoy this provocative tale, or at least this one did, and look forward to more of your work, at least this one will.

When your warm what? Your warm hands? Or is it you're? No, I have it now, "Breathe" is really "breath" "Your warm, benign breath." Well that's a load off. I thought it was a confusing error. Yeah, many people have a long benign breathe now and then. So about the poem, the poetry part... oops,sorry out of time. Catch you on the next one.

The Anna character is vivid and well drawn. Her emotions are raw and visual markers of the story. There is no escaping a bad ending in the reader's mind after the "don't put beans up your nose" warning was written, of course she would accept a ride from a stranger. What else could she do and still be in the story?

I live in the South and have, with minor absence,s lived here my entire life. My family celebrated Memorial Day the way other families might celebrate an extra Saturday, or any off day that happened to appear on the schedule. We might cook out or not. No big deal. There was another holiday that required some effort, on Decoration Day we would clean up the graves in the church cemetery and put flowers on the relative's stones. It was years later that I found out Decoration Day had at one time been called Confederate Memorial Day.

You have much higher expectations for the education of cats than I. In my experience cats teach us. While I appreciate it that a cat will bury its scat I know I will never teach the cat to change the litter. But the point is not cat. The point is writing and this cat poem is a good representation of your notions about cats.

I also like birds and the songs of birds. Do they rehearse far away form me that when I hear them I have their best effort? It must be so. They never falter. And no Prima Doña these singers, fancy dress is optional. The Brown Thrasher flopping around gracelessly in dungaree color is a different bird in the tree top. There she is Queen of the Night and sings for Pappageno, Pappagena, and for me.

Absolutely gorgeous writing. I felt the desert in my being, rather than my senses, in the way a body may feel the explosion that deafens the ears so quickly it is never heard. This is something Gertrude Bell or T.E. Lawrence might have written if you had not.

Kurt Vonnegut wrote a story once called "Goodbye Blue Monday". the title, he alleged, came from the slogan of a washing machine company that made Monday a traditional wash day much easier. Maybe Mondays got a bad rap from stuff like that. Who knows?

Liked the lock reference, thought that one was a pip. The proximity of the grass ripples in the breeze to the singing in the tress makes a vision of grassy trees that is unfortunate. there at the end it may be hard for some readers to stay with the idea that barking dogs and crying children are soothing.

"You're" is the contraction of "you are." First paragraph has a sentence fragment. Rooms aren't completely dark with lamp posts shining in. Lamps on lamppost shine, lamp posts
support lamps, street lamps solves the issue.

Also:

"as I stood n fair" " stains.she " "she was only wearing shoe" "and she had a psychotic"

Just needs a good proofing.

Well Archie since you wrote this piece in 2014 a lot has happened. I guess the question now is "How do you like those apples?" Or alternatively, "So you thought things would get better, eh?"

On the bright side the LGBT has added Q and A to the inventory since those bleak old 2014 days. Now if we could, as Pat offers on Wheel of Fortune, buy a few more vowels we might actually turn alphabet soup into a word. Let's work on it for the next decade or so.
