A fun read that delighted me..Having raised Red's in the past I really enjoyed this one. Now if you could have worked in a line about a buff it would be perfect. Had me laughing snickering, giggling and even a chortle or two. Good writing, Duke Stone

A wonderfully imaginative and vividly visualized world. A great little story that works as stand alone as well as part of larger tapestry. This one has a lot going for it and especially the strong characters. You could feel the tension grow and the moods shift between them. A well written and enjoyable story. Good writing, Duke Stone

This story is really more of a scene and that a bit fragmented. As a dream fragment it tells just what you saw but as a work of fiction it falls short. You need to consider polishing and focusing the plot more. a third person POV with more characterization for the boy and perhaps even the mystical woman he is running towards would go a long way. Characters sell the story. If the reader doesn't care what happens to the character then it is a dead story to my mind. If you rewrite then send me an email and I'll gladly give it another read. You have potential with this one just need to focus and add the elements of story telling. Things I do like about it are the clear and vivid imagery which makes it so easy for the reader to see the hall and it's occupants. You can feel the closeness of it and the boy's exertions, you just need to make us care why we feel it. What makes us identify with him and his fate. Duke Stone

Review of 'It'

A well written poem that resounds with the human mind on several levels, both mental with the clear and vivid images and emotional with the connection of truth , the demonstration of how two change to form the new whole. I really enjoyed the reading, Good writing, duke stone

An interesting if uneven and a bit disjointed. The thoughts are very much the flow but unfortunately they seem to ramble and lose focus as you move through the prose. A rewrite with an eye towards polish and finding your main focus here would really make this one sing. It possesses a lot of potential but for the moment it remains untapped potential. If you decide to rewrite send me an email and I'll be happy to give it another read. Duke Stone

A delightfully devilish tale. Love the interaction of the aliens , after all , they seem so .... human. the character of Arlo is what sold the story and made them something besides just bloodthirsty. The scene from inside the bowl was well done and worked great to drive home the fact it was indeed humans inside the container. Good writing, Duke Stone

A wonderfully horrific piece. A moving, riveting story that caught me with the first word and swept me with the flow through the whole thing. A great effort with a very vivid description that fills the reader's mind with images that leap from the page. Good writing, Duke Stone

Review of Macie's Revenge

A story that has the bare basics of a beginning but no flesh and no end. both of these detract greatly from the story. Your characters need to be fleshed out so that the reader can become invested in what happens to them. Her daughter needs to be more than a cutout as indeed her whole family. You have the start of a story here but it needs some work to make it sing to the reader.

Review of Naked Murder

Alright this one works for me on sheer audacity alone. A fun read that had me laughing as the murderer was flushed out... and was glad to see the quick thinking detective come out smelling like a rose. This was indeed a unique ending to the mystery. Good writing, Duke Stone

A nice story told from the boy's viewpoint with everything ringing true. Even his refusal to accept the truth that his dad had dealt with the monster. His heart beat sat a perfect tempo for the story as it drew the reader in deeper. A well written story. Good writing, Duke Stone

A nice start but it doesn't go deep enough the second stanza cuts off as if it's just the beginning and there are so many things left. Your imagery is good and I love the flow just needs to be extended. and worked a bit more. Good writing, Duke Stone

A wonderful glimpse of Vermont and the world around you. Thanks for sharing this as I have always enjoyed the closeness of nature though it seems to fade a little more each year. Your imagery is clear and well defined and your sense of wonder travels well through your words. Good writing, Duke Stone

An interesting and well told tale though would have loved to have seen a bit more descriptive narrative of the scenes and actions. This may have came from the result of a word count limit and if so I understand but it could use a rewrite and a bit more fleshing out. It has the skeleton of a great story but could really use some more flesh. If you decide to rewrite it just let me know and I'll be glad to reread. There is a lot of potential here. Good writing, Duke Stone

Review of See No Evil

Avery interesting and thought provoking story with taut pace and an excellent narrative. Your character kept enough mystery to leave you wondering if he was the killer or simply knew who the killer was but either way he was simply another homeless bum, a faceless forgotten man who faded into the background. A dark, haunting piece I enjoyed immensely. Good writing, Duke Stone

An interesting and well done story. I loved the characterization. This story was one of those that caught my attention and held it from start to finish. If you decide to continue her story please send me an email as I would love to read it. A wonderfully imagined tale thanks for sharing. Good writing, Duke Stone

An interesting if flawed poem. I enjoyed the imagery though the use of impression, oppression and saturation in such close order detracted from the meaning instead focusing the reader's mind on the alliteration. which only works if it strengthens a poem. A nice attempt and one worthy of honing and polish. If you decide to rewire or revise please email me and I'll be glad to reread. Good writing, Duke Stone

Review of My Goodbye

wow a heart wrenching and beautifully sad poem that literally had me in tears. Having gone through the hardships of life and love myself it makes it all too easy to find the truth in your words. The flow is lyrical and smooth a funeral dirge to the love that once was. Haunting, touching and powerful. Good writing, Duke Stone

Review of Train of Thought

A wonderfully done and well written story that caught me with the first word and didn't let go until the end. Ellie came alive on the page and made me feel her emotions. Your careful description of her and her surroundings made her leap from the page. Her husband was jsut another character that came to live with your great use of words. A vivid and imaginative story that was dead one. Good writing, Duke Stone

An interesting piece of flash fiction that contains all of the necessary elements of story. I have a hard time judging all but the top 1 % from this genre because my mind sees the potential that more words could have offered it. I am really a strong characterization person and flash fiction is almost entirely plot driven. that said this one did spark the imagination and give that little lurch at the end. For this genre of writing that's a well told tale. Good writing, Duke Stone

This one has potential but it still needs developed. A use of line breaks or preserving indents would help with readability. The end seemed a bit rushed as it tied a neat if bloody bow in two sentences. a bit more of motivations etc would go a long way towards establishing both why we want her to live as well as why he finds it necessary to kill her. and if he wanted her heart a hatchet would kind of mess it up.. An interesting but incomplete story. if you rewrite or revise let me know and I'll be glad to read again, Duke Stone

ok a bit disjointed piece with some very strong emotional narrative but a bit uneven in the scene jumps and the final twist is unexpected but I'm not sure of the reasoning. A thought provoking piece and if you decide to add or change it I would love an email so that I might review it once more. It's got potential. Good writing, Duke Stone

A well written and moving story that has me moving to the next chapter. Your main character of Kate is well drawn and realistically fragile but a underlying sense of strength that shines through to make her a true , if offbeat, heroine. A wonderful story of inner struggle and redemption. Good writing, Duke Stone

A wonderful ballad poem indeed. The message rings strong with vivid imagery to conjure the scenes . I enjoyed this one greatly and thank you for sharing it. This one really struck a chord with me, as the south, like too many others seem to think that sweeping every thing under a rock over simplifying things into a clear cut case of good vs bad will make it go away. History is not nearly as clean as the writers would have us believe nor are the larger than life heroes and villains they populate the pages with motivated by simple factors of greed or sacrifice alone. Instead it is a complex set of desires and circumstances and without trying to understand those the lessons history has to offer are wasted on the present and repeated by the future. Good writing, Duke Stone

An interesting and informative discussion of what poetry means to you and your feelings on the various forms. I will add one thing to that list though poetry, through whatever means has a lyrical, musical flow to it. It's something that to me defines poetry regardless of the form it takes. true hap-hazard lines and darting, clipped words might be called bad poetry but still without that lyrical quality I don't consider it a true poem. even free verse that's well written has it and no amount of rhyming will force it to grace a bad piece. In the end it's my emotional and mental connection to the work that gives me enjoyment and defines the genre and quality of the work. I really liked seeing another view on poetry and what makes it tick you have given me much food for thought. Good writing, Duke Stone
