This a beautiful poem and even more so because it was written by your mother. I love the way we experience the life of the rose outside the window. It is not so much a personification of the rose, I don't think, but a hint that we, like the rose, will wither and die. A parable almost, don't you think. This poem is laden with wisdom and sweetness at the same time. It is a treasure and a gem just like its author. Your posting of your mother's poetry is admirable and spurs emotion in all who might read it. Oh the agonies I would willingly endure for a chance to go back and treat my mother like the saint she truly was. I love this poem. Thank you for sharing.
Perfect rhyme scheme. I like the poem. It a very good subject, very real and kind of ominous. Two things happened of note while I read. One was the iterating hint of each time in my life that I have stopped and thought, "Damn, no matter what I do, some day I'm going to die." This is a thought that spends most of its time locked away in my mind someplace where it cannot do any harm, rarely thought about and intentionally so. The second thing was the sense that death was perhaps gaining on the narrator a bit faster than s/he would like.
Underlying notions presented without being overtly stated are one of the most interesting qualities that I think poetry displays. You have done a wonderful job in do just that and with every other aspect of this poem. Thank you for sharing.
Two lovers apart experiencing through their two perceptions worlds that are one and the same. The first line hints to the theme not too directly or too vaguely. The poem leans heavily on color description. I notice that the guiding hand of your words leads us into color description and sort of lets us go for a line or so only to pick up again and continue the momentum. I like that. Toward the end the descriptions of color taper but not until said momentum is going strong and we see the colors implied in other descriptions. Such well authored detail, I can almost see the breeze. Well done, thank you for sharing.
