Some things can't be changed. Many a light foot lad has charged off feeling invincible, only to encounter streams too broad for leaping. Other news: today I celebrate the beginning of my 80th trip around the Sun. My older sister passed away recently. I reminisce about her in "Talk To You Later," at the top of my Poems folder. I hope you'll have a look. BTW, the "Carol" in "Carolina" didn't escape my keen eye. 😊 Cheers, George.
I'm not a big fan of blank verse, but I like this. A couple of grammatical remarks: In stanza 1, "lie" should read "lay" or "laid". In the next to last stanza, "in to" should read "into," Welcome back! Best regards, George Dixon.
Very touching and melancholy. I assume you're young, and know that young love can sometimes be disappointing. Hang in there. As one of my favorite songs promises: Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow there'll be sun.
A cautionary tale about the risks of jumping to conclusions. Well written. We are all shipmates in this spaceship we call Earth. Cheers, and have a productive week! As Smiley indicates, it's getting warm in Arizona. 😅
I like it! America must have been a special place with its oceans of grass, before the homesteaders' plows tore at the heartland's fabric. You're a better poet than I had thought. Keep on rhymin'. George.
Many scientists believe that whales evolved from dinosaurs who returned from land to sea. And it's believed that many of the dinosaurs sang too. To paraphrase Shakespeare, there are more things than our philosophies can dream of! Best regards, George Dixon.
Wah! This made me think of my own mother ... one of the hall marks of good poetry. There's a short poem about her, and moments we shared, in my port's poetry folder.😞
You have definitely made this your genre here on WDC. It's scary, but I'm old enough to say it (Auschwitz, etc.) all happened in my lifetime. Write on! May I suggest something through the eyes of the Easter Bunny for your next treat? Best, George.
Reminiscingly haunting. Mayberry was such a good show. Andy was a genius. I miss him sorely. When Don Knotts came on the show, Andy had the good sense to let him do his thing, to everyone's delight. It was a great crew, and the show takes a rightful place as one of TV's greatest. Too bad about the theatre. "Progress" 😖
Wonderful! I was born again many years ago in Colorado Springs. The memory is still strong. I believe that our prayers for forgiveness arrive Special Delivery, having been (re-)baptized as adults. Thanks for sharing. George Dixon.
Excellent! It's hard to believe you didn't actually live it. The scary thing is that it's all seeming more possible. Very well written. Best regards, grdixon.
Well, I read your whole novel, and the writing and story telling definitely improved as things progressed. Really good job for a first opus. I found very few mistakes in spelling and grammar. Your command of the English language suggests that you keep on writing. The build up to a crisis is a hallmark of all good fiction. Good Job! Best wishes for a productive 2017. George Dixon.
Great reading thus far. I originally planned to read just the first ten chapters before commenting, but found myself wanting to know more. Somewhere Ollie "lays" down, but this should read lies down. Also, in the first few chapters, the word "internet" should be capitalized. I'll read more in the days to come, not because I feel I owe it to you, but because it's a good read. Happy New Year! George.
It sounds like you're roughing it. I can't help but think about the poor people in Syria, where they say it's freezing all the while. Keep the faith, spring is coming.
Excellent I myself suffer from mental illness. I have been diagnosed as being bipolar. Your piece really touched me and I wish you the best. Yours in poetry, GR Dixon
Wow, this is a must read for anyone considering publishing a book or article. Thanks so much for sharing. It is a good lead into buying a book for the same reason. Wish me luck, George Dixon.
Wonderful. As good as free verse can get. I especially identified with the line " as shadow falls across my soul." Thanks for sharing this with us. Wishing you a very happy Christmas season. Best regards, George
