I enjoyed this story with the beautifully pictured fantasy forest setting. Familiar legends, like Merlin, Viking myths and elves are referenced in a way that is very satisfying for an avid fantasy reader. The use of the senses and descriptive language are wonderfully done here and I felt like I was part of the story.

I always try to do my bit for the environment, so this was an interesting read. It was well structured with facts and research to support your points, plus holding back the best point about the fact supermarkets should consider the whole cycle of a bag’s life to the conclusion. Although it is commendable that supermarkets make changes, sometimes they are not as good for the environment as they seem. This article shows it is good to do your own research and find the most environmentally friendly way for you.

Review of Irvine

I love the idea of a giant and siren cross child and the life she leads with humans seeing her and her family as outcasts. The coastal setting is great and nicely described. I like how the story opens with Irvine doing ordinary things like watching the sea and going home to eat soup, as this contrasts well with her extraordinary abilities.
I would maybe look at writing a more attention grabbing first line and try and make the first paragraph more show than tell.

Review of Woods Words

This poem does a great job at capturing the atmosphere of the forest. It invests character into both the trees and animals, like the brilliant described dignified owl on the look out for prey. I also liked the focus on how the mood of the forest affects the person walking there, making them feel spiritually free. This encapsulates the magic and wonder of the nautral world well. I like the use of alliteration and poetic structure. The fact there are some areas of rhyme, but other endings do not rhyme, suggests the freedom the speaker of the poem feels in the forest.

Review of Secret Cave Swim

This is an intriguing read with a mysterious mood. The piece is highly descriptive and I could vividly picture the setting through the sensory details. Told for the point of view of a female character warily experiencing her surroundings on a night swim, the piece keeps information hidden about the character. There were many interesting details, such as that she came from the night sky and appears to live alone in hiding from ‘them’ that made his story a fascinating fantasy read.

This story has the moral to stop wishing for things that are impossible and be happy with things as they are. You have picked up on the tone of Alice in Wonderland where characters talk to symbolic individuals, here time. Through what might at first seem a nonsense discussion, the character discovers that it is the past memories and future hopes that make a relationship as much as spending time with a loved one in the present.

An amusing and varied collection of short stories. They show how well you can shift mood and write different genres. I especially liked the amusing stories about the mother given a green balloon and giving birth to a green baby and the infant with the first word duck throwing her rattle. All the pieces are well written and inventive interpretations of the prompts.

I loved the creative idea of an unusal coloured purple pumpkin. The story draws on fairytale motifs of reward and a child being warned not to do something, which reminded me of Jack and the Beanstalk and Red Riding Hood. The tone is amusing and I liked how the boy only agreed to pick the pumpkin when he was offered candy as a reward!
I liked the pumpkin appearing again at the end, but the story felt like it should go on here. I wondered if you could create a circular structure by repeating the beginning lines at the end so the poem closes off more neatly?

This short poem is full of images of spring flowers. It made it feel as if I were surrounded by colourful flowers, which is fitting as the poem ends by revealing that it is about a scene in Keukenhof in the Netherlands, famed for its spring bulbs. I liked the diamond shape of this short and sweet poem.

This was a darkly funny take on stories like Harry Potter and is full of surprising images. I like the creativity you show as Romeo uses his magic on the city to break the rules of gravity, changing the pavement to putty and cars to taffy. The idea that Romeo was unusal and associated with chaos came through from the start when he is born during a blizzard. The circular structure as he leaves earth in a blizzard makes a satisfying end.

I love these images of the night in a forest and the faerie folk that live there. The atmosphere of the woodland at night is beautifully described and I felt like I was there. The fairies, unicorns, rock trolls and mermaids make it sound an interesting and full fantasy world.

The campfire is a lovely idea. It is autumn here in the UK. I hope we will have snow this winter as it looks pretty, the last time we had lots of snow was 2017. I liked the description of the witch legs hanging out a planter in Barnes and Noble, maybe the witch crashed her broom into the planter? It would make a good story.

This is a lovely poem that captures the beauty and sweet flavour of the mango fruit as an addition to meals. I got a clear picture of the sunny setting where the mangos grow. It is found as a dessert at buffets, at picnics and with a delcious sounding sweet rice breakfast accompanied by a choco drink. This sounds wonderful and isn't something I've tried before. I see you are from the Philippines to I wonder if it is a speciality there? The rhyme scheme works well in a nicely crafted poem.

I enjoyed the contrast of emotions between joy and weeping in this poem. This conveys the variety of writing to evoke both happy and sad emotions and share experiences from the soul with others via penned lines. Although only short, this poem does a lovely job at summing up the joy of writing and sharing it with others in the Writing.com community.

This is a beautiful poem full of hope and joy. It speaks of attaining God’s grace by keeping hope in your heart and bring positive and kind to others. This message is reinforced by the inspiring image of soaring like an eagle. The structured rhythm of the poem lends it a musical quality that adds to the pleasure of reading it.

I enjoyed this bright and colourful poem where you describe so many beautiful images in a way that makes me think of the myriad of different things in life. Some colours are soft, like pastel baby clothes, others intense like the fire. The poem covers natural images like mountains snd the sea, and images of people wearing colourful clothing as they trying the city streets. The use of repetition worked well to reinforce the theme of the poem.

This beautifully written poem has a timeless feel with its descritpions based on traditional love poetry, nature and myths. It reminds me of Shakespeare's sonnets in the use of language to meditate on the beauty of a loved one. The focus on the qualities of the loved one is conveyed well with repetition and close detail. At the end it is revealed that the loved one returns the love of the speaker of them poem, so it was nice to have a happy ending!

This is an original and well written piece where you write from the point of view of dust mite sized fairy. This gives another spin on whether fairies are real and what their lives might be like. The tiny size of the fairy and how they view thier world is vividly imagined. I got a clear sense of what thier life was like from the lovely and interesting descriptions.

This story is hilarious! I love the cheek and self-satisfaction of the kitten, you did a great job at capturing cat personality here. What havoc Dr. Zhivago makes at the special birthday party. It would have been even more of a disaster if he got to the toilet rolls stash in Covid lockdown when toilet rolls sold out! The characters where well written and the story progresses well to the crescendo of the disaster as the guests arrive.

What a prophetic song full of memories, hearing about it playing on the radio as you drove back from Lucy’s funeral service showed it was meant to be and she clearly felt the song has a message for you. Hearing about her playing it on her recorder as a child, and later that you sang it at the choir together was poignant. This piece captures the power of music to link to our emotions and special times in life.

I loved reading this wonderfully written and insightful interview of A. E. Wilcox. She is an excellent fantasy writer and I have learned a lot from her reviews and reading and reviewing her highly recommended portfolio. I like how the interview was orgainsed with questions and answers that will be useful to many writers. Reading about her inspirations was nice too as I enjoy many of those books.

This was an interesting read and I found it useful reading the explanations of where to put commas. The piece is well laid out and easy to follow with varied examples that helped me make sense of the comma placement activities. The exceptions to the rule are good to know.

This poem has a powerful music. I love how the ocean waves become a metaphor for life and the emotions. The ocean is also compared to writing through the mention of genres. There is much to unravel in this meaningful poem. The end of contrasting the potentially devastating sea with focusing on the sun and its connotations of life and hope works well.

Having read about the Englyn Milwr form in the poet’s place newsletter, I was interested to see how it works in practice. I like how it gives an effortless, unobtrusive sense of music and structure to this piece about soldiers. How do they feel about the wars they have been part of and how are things for them when they return from battle - these questions are prominent here. You also included a nice Christian message to end the piece about the soldiers being in the keeping of God.
