Seriously, you did an amazing job of capturing the "voice" of both Abby and McGee in this wonderful piece of work! *Heart* I truly believe that even those that are not NCIS fans will find the humor and drama of this short story compelling.

You have worked your bum off the last several weeks and the finished product surely shows it. I am so proud to be your Mentor and wish you nothing but the best as you continue to grow as a writer.

Review of The Slums

This is a heartbreaking story and reminds me so much of the stories and pictures that my husband and his church shared after they returned from a missions trip a couple of years ago to a school in Haiti. It is a shame while some live in the lap of absolute luxury there are those in the world who do not even have the basics of survival.

This story kept me mesmerized throughout. I found myself leaning forward in my chair with my hand over my mouth and my heart speeding up with each sentence. Excellent job! To draw the reader in and make them FEEL is the mark of a truly talented writer in my opinion!

Forbidden Delicacies was perfectly disturbing, I absolutely adored it!!

I loved that you kept the gore to a minimum instead making the descriptions calm almost clinical at times. I think this added to the horrific subject matter.

The ending was priceless! Definately my favorite part of the story and so true to all I have read about people that suffer from Multiple Personalities the way he thought of David as another seperate flesh and blood person.

I don't get to read enough of this type of twisted tales. Thank you for sharing!

I love the sentiment behind this particular poem but do not feel it one of your best as far as your choice of words and rhymes and such. This is one that I think you could make improvements to and really rip some hearts out! *Wink*

I know there are times that you feel alone. There are times I feel the same and only One can fill the tremendous void that fills my soul at those times. However I have found that I can get through those times with a listening ear, a strong shoulder, and a hug from my dearest sisters and brothers. Thank you for being one of those and I pray you know I am here for you.

Suggestions ...

Alone in a room full of people that I know care
Yet my mind and heart are full of despair
I reach to some voice in my head
The thought that drive me to lay in bed

The third and forth lines here don't make sense to me ..are a bit off. I think that your poem could be more powerful if you worked with/revised these lines.

Hey bri love! I love the soft emotion behind your words in this poem. I think most can relate to the pain of losing a pet but knowing you as I do brings the emotion that much more to the forefront.

One suggestion...

Though your time with me was not so long
You filled my days with love from your purring song
I miss the meows that broke the silent night
Though I wondered if you were alright
with relief when a saw you bounding in
knowing you were safe and in my arms again

maybe go with WHAT relief ... and I think you want ...when "I" saw you

You bring forward a lot of valid, read here frightening, yet extremely valid points in this short piece. As a mother of an eleven year old son, there is rarely a school day that goes by that I DON'T think about guns and violence in our schools. This is not exactly what I want to be thinking about while holding down a full time job but I am a mother. We live in a tiny, midwest farming community and still I worry. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and pointing out the options.

I know next to nothing about poetry and yet the title and then description of this poem drew me in. Prisons have always fascinated me. You did a fabulous job in my opinion of capturing the heavy dread. I have a sense of admiration and yet a bit of sorrow for those that work in those conditions. It would take a lot of strength and faith every day to do the job and not become their charges.

Excellent poem! Write on!

I know little about poetry and what makes it good or bad. This review is purely based on personal like and dislike so please take it at that value.

This piece of poetry struck a nerve with me, ringing true and yet it is ohhh so hard to follow its teachings. Learning to deal with reviews has been an experience for me here on WDC. Prior to coming here my reviews were from friends. *smiles* Friends tend to be rather biased reviewers. If we as authors listened only to friends and family we would ALL be the next John Saul, J.R.R Tolkien or Jean Auel.

So over all ... nice job ...way to envoke thought and reaction from your reader.

Wow. Ok. I did not see that one coming. I thought maybe red painted steps inspiring a fall or a poetic heart attack when the old witch saw the defilement of her precious steps. I am not sure what inspired Betty to paint the old biddy but I surely can understand her revenge/escape.

Interesting testimony to your little gas sipper. As a the proud driver of a navy blue Jeep Grand Cherokee, affectionately named "Teresa" after Dale Earnhardt's wife, I understand ones relationship with their vehicle of choice.

Your description of Colt's dismay at failing his tests and being replaced were well done and humorous.

36 mpg does look damn good looking at Teresa's 18 or so but I don't think Blue Satyr would make it down my back woods drive in January! *Bigsmile*

I enjoyed our heroines almost sarcastic outlook on life and wealth. They say money can't buy one happiness but it certainly seems to make the world go around. Very well written and the story delivers as promised. Eight and a half million dollars would certainly be most every writer's fantasy! Well done and write on!

I enjoyed this short story and the moral lesson it imparted. It is very easy for most of us to become one of a frightened mass and allow prejudice and fear to over shadow personal judgement. Excellent job and an interesting way of using the provided prompt!

This was a very intriguing chapter that grabbed my attention at the beginning and held it. The end of the chapter made me want to hurry and turn the page, the mark of a good writer. I will certainly look up the remainder of the story to see what I have been missing!

This is an interesting point that I never thought about until I began to make the acquaintance of some of the wonderful people of Canada. Looking back on my own school years I can honestly say the only time I recall Canada being mentioned at all was the French/Indian War.

I think it is wrong and quite frankly arrogant on the part of American educators that they can so completely ignore a country that boarders our own, has been our ally, and is so diverse and rich in history. It is my hope that this will change in time. I am not holding my breath. In the mean time I will do what I can to educate not only myself, but my son as well on our Northern Neighbor.

*laughs* This reminded me of the Back to the Future movies but this was even more the ramblings of a mad man this. You did a good job with so very few words, sucessfully telling a complete tale from start to finish. Good Job and I hope you will Write on!

had just read your "Who is Megan Rose" and commented that we have a lot in common. Reading this piece put a lump in my throat and brought tears to my eyes.

We had been married less than 6 months when my husband came to see me at work to tell me the house we were renting burned. I thank God that he was able to come and tell me. My husband was working nights at that time and normally would have been sleeping. He had got up early to get money out of the bank so I could go Christmas shopping that night and was to meet me for lunch. The house burned while he was gone. My husband is a very heavy sleeper and can be disoriented if woke in the middle of his sleep cycle. I shudder to think what might have happened had he been sleeping.

Like yourself we had tremendous support from family, friends, and the church. We didn't have insurance and lost everything. We didn't lose one another and that was the one thing we repeated over and over. Bless you and yours and thank you for sharing.

Bumble Boy is such a poignant example of the small things that can hurt a child emotionally, leaving scars that parents or siblings can't even fathom. I think most children are born with a want and need to please and impress their parents and when instead they are ridiculed at every turn the damage can be lasting effecting them for life. Great job! I congratulate you on A different and unique use for the supplied prompt. I thought that this could have been much more climatic, that you could have built the tension and anticipation higher as both they approached the fire and then in turn as it approached them. I liken it a bit to the scenes from twister as the storm chasers find, approach, and then find themselves part of their prey.
