Your story reminded me of when I was a boy, and that first telescope good for "moon only" viewing. The aliens were correct - no cheese, but the most fascinating view of nothing I ever saw !
When I was a teenager I barely escaped a strike by an Eastern Diamondback. I was incredibly lucky. He was huge, at least 6 feet. Had I been bitten, I would have been in very serious trouble - the bigger they are, the more venom they pump into you.
Considering everything I (currently) know about the Universe and my enjoyment of anything regarding space travel (including fictional stories) I very much appreciated your story. I could easily relate to the main character, particularly regarding his desire to sail into the heavens from such as early age - right up my, "The Right Stuff" alley !
I just completed a fictional story (space adventure) ebook which will be available on 2 Sept. on Amazon. Please read my WDC essay titled, "Who wants to read an eBook" available in my portfolio for further details.
I believe we (most of us) know why this is happening. Certain Politicians are allowing it because it furthers their political interests more than it serves the interests of true citizens of the United States. (One) of the reasons contributing to the collapse of the Roman Empire was their failure to control their borders. The geniuses in Washington are using our Constitution and our Freedoms to DESTROY our Constitution and our Freedoms. And they are hell bent on succeeding.

In reference to your questions, I believe I can answer for all the Chapters as follows:
1. There are some grammatical errors in each Chapter (but we ALL make those errors).
2. Every Chapter made sense. I viewed it as a combination of secular and spiritual (biblical)
counseling/teaching. Secular advice/teaching is confirmed by reference/application of relevant
biblical chapter and verse.
3. To me it's about surrendering yourself to the will of God and allowing him to guide and mold you in every
aspect of your life. Trusting (trust) God and believing (belief) his promises (faith) are the keys.
4. The last paragraph of the first Chapter really stood out for me. There's NO free lunch (even in one's walk
with God). As you correctly emphasize, "we MUST be willing to pay the price." There is NO secular (or)
spiritual growth without work, without sacrifice. This is a fundamental truism. Both are a CONTINUOUS
work in progress. You don't succeed or become proficient at anything on a secular OR spiritual plane
without putting in time and effort. A review of ALL the major players in the Bible is absolute proof of that !
5. God's Maxim's pertain to EVERYTHING - that includes our free will to make decisions. The Bible teaches
that exercising our free will to follow (his) will is the ultimate act of trust, faith, and belief.
What do think about condensing some of the Chapters so that you don't run the risk of redundancy ?
Enjoyed your short essay titled, "A Good Friend." The word that comes to mind after reading (at least for me) is the word, 'unconditional,' begging the question, "should friendship (like love) be unequivocal?"
I enjoyed this short story, perhaps because it brought back memories in which I had similar disappointments; then again, don't we all? There is an episode (I do not recall the name) of Star Trek, the original series, where Spock shares a logical explanation regarding 'wants' which at the time made perfect sense.
Ironically, one of my favorite quotes is from another Star Trek episode. Does it relate to this story? I'll let you answer that question. I entered the quote in my biography.
I believe it takes a very BRAVE person to place their neck on the chopping block over and over again in reference to relationships. You obviously are that person. Most people will not do that, so my applause for the eternal optimism that burns within you. As the saying goes, even a bad experience is not necessarily in vain if in turn you learn something from that experience.
