Review of Less Than a Week
Review by kranand
Rated: E | (4.0)
It’s about delay’s caused by the misplaced W2, aggravated issues like where to submit returns, whether it should include or not include the commute mileage, and finally the delay due to the cop’s check of records. The anxiety that it may get delayed goes on mounting every time some hurdle is encountered. Reader is made to read through with curiosity whether Douglas will succeed in submitting the returns before the deadline “Two Weeks”. The suspense and anxiety is resolved all of sudden realizing there is a extension of date of submission to 18th.
There a good effort by the writer to describe events picturesquely, flow of events are depicted well, I liked the simplicity in words, easily followed by one and all………kranand

Hi “Silent(1)”
I read your “An Interesting Ride” as a part of read and review Random review exercise. Here are my impressions about it as one of the many readers.
It’s all about a ride with a stranger Kevin’s “beat-up Hyundai” based on a craiglist ride arrangements, fixed over messages back and forth, without any oral communication.
I liked the fun packed vivid descriptions at every step I read, virtually I could’nt resist from the reading till the last, enjoying every bit of fun.
The best part of it is your assessment of Kevin initially to be one of “slightly perturbed by the feeling that this guy was a bit neurotic.” To
One of “I didn’t feel awkward because of the lack of rhetoric as I probably would have done with a hearing person, and I assumed that he could not speak due to the fact that he had only communicated through the written word.” and a later realization “He is deaf” . I appreciate the way you have unfolded with fun your understanding of his trait. This only a small example, I could cite.
Kevin’s pursuit of finding riders one after another despite of his deafness, is quite interesting.

I read the “George's hot and steamy adventure!” as a part of read and review Random review exercise. Here are my impressions about it as one of the many readers.
It’s about George’s adventure that began as a conversation exploring the knowledge about volcanos between Mrs Sparks and the class. Emily one of the pupils begins talking about them and then George takes on to continue; spins into an adventure story , in which george’s family join him,
Descriptions are vivid, crisp and action filled. Suspense, lots of anxiety and curiosity to know about the sound built up compelling reader to continue till the climax and sudden and surprise resolution that the sound is from a Ilama trapped deep down the rocky gorge. Then on the adventurous action of George climbing down using a rope tied to his waist, and transferring it to rescue the Ilama continue till the end keeping the reader right through to the end.
Another family they meet on the way, the jokes and fun in his family, add little more to the description of the scene.
I liked the way the writer has skillfully packed with as less words as possible, still maintaining its clarity ,it’s one of the good stories I have come across.
In the course of my reading I felt it could have been formatted with better spacing , reducing some repetitions in conversation markers, a minor issue that needs some work……..kranand

Review of The Questions

Hi Cherry,
I read your “The Questions” as a part of Random review .Here are my impressions as aone of the readers.
It is about your chemo therapy for disease “Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma,” . It’s sad that no one interacted with you though you tried to talk. None would talk to you about the disease or the treatment at 4th floor. The pain , the agony , and helplessness as you explained, the long term treatment, and without answer for your question whether you would be cured pains me a lot. At the end, your resolve to forget past, live in the present, keep hope that some day you would get relieved of it, knowing well cancer cann’t be cured . It is a herat rending situation I pray almighty for a quick relief for you……….kranand

Review of Holiday Dinner
Review by kranand
Rated: E | (4.5)
I read the “Holiday Dinner” as a part of read and review Random review exercise .Here are my impression about it.
It’s about the Dad’s decision to attend a dinner hosted by uncle Bob, as they had not gone to Uncle Bob’s place for the last two years and this time it’s Dad and family’s turn. Every one of Dad’s family had some reason or other to grouse about going there, and it was an unwilling visit.
The entire story is spun out in the form of conversation , the past experiences of their meet, the aversion to go by everyone , a bit of activities and description of the scene all skillfully brought out.
I liked the funfilled drama making me to guess what is expected in the dinner even before they attend it………..kranand

I read “Claire versus The Enormous Carrot” as a part of read and review Random review exercise. Here are my impressions about it as one of the readers.
It’s about the stubborn carrot that couldn’t be pulled out of ground by Claire by herself, she had to seek the help of Chloe, and their next door neighbor Sinead, her husband Howard, their close friend Charlotte with her daughter Amy, and Claire’s dog Toby to finally pull the Carrot out.
I liked the picturesque description of the scene, the action of holding each other to pull, it’s quite an interesting story to suit the tastes of children!
There seems a few errors and typos yet to be corrected, I suggest the writer to relook and rectify. For example, “"Wow, that carrot really is being stubborn, Chloe, could you please come out here, I need your help," called the young woman to her wife.” Is Cloe Claire’s wife as indicated in these lines?.I am not clear. It’s pointed out only to suggest a relook for errors if any, not to hurt.

I read the short story “what happened next?” as a part of read and review, random review exercise. Here are my impressions about it:
It's about the runaway “Ilke” Dwight Eisenhower and Bill meeting on the way while the later was driving to Kansas, city. The conversation slowly unfolds their thoughts about general expectation of a normal boy “finshing high school, get married, make babies, then die”. Ilke had bigger expectations of seeing the world, make big that drove him to runaway. Bill being an army recruiter himself suggests joining army may satisfy his wishes.
I liked the smooth unfold of the story, the beautiful conversation , and surprise disclosure Bill himself as a recruiter of army, the vivid description of the scene. ………kranand

Hi Bike rider,
I read your “Reborn” as a part of read and review Random review execise . Here are my impressions about it as one of the many readers.
It’s about the atrocities perpetrated by the world war II, a heart wrenching story about “your” grand mother with five children to feed , following stoppage of Grand father’s money from USA, led a pathetic life when suddenly her houe was set on flames, and the five children were entrapped in fire.
The description is vivid, filled with awe, reader is engulfed with sympathy for her, still curious to know what happened to her even as the father Pietro assures her they’re safe with him, finally she was sent to hospital to spend her life till end.
I liked the writing for its impact on reader’s emotions, the poetic descriptions of the remains after devastating fire, people’s bullish blame that she only set her building on fire unable to see her children starving, in not hearing her plea she isn’t innocent.
Finally your reaching a ray of hope to see life is reborn in the single crocus bloom amidst the rocks.is a solace the reader finds ……kranand

It is terrifying, I understand your anxiety at those few minutes of emotional rollercoaster thank got she came out revived. My wife had an exactly same type of situation when I had an attack of breathlessness , to face it alone, decide whether to accept or not when my cardiologist asked her chose between sure death or take a huge risk and try to perform angioplasty while still on ventilator.

The description makes any reader scary, wanting to know what happened ultimately, and heave a sigh of relief, when Susan came out to tell you, Lisa is the intubation had gone well, and that Lisa was stabilized for the time being. ........kranand

I read your open letter about Social Distancing as a part of my read and review Random review exercise. Here are my impressions.
It is about people not maintaining social distancing for some reason or other.
I appreciate your concern vehemently put forth “I would not want to think that my child or my older loved ones are no longer on this Earth because of a selfish choice that I made. Think about it. It is better to think about it now than after it is too late”
It’s sad well-meaning people are shy to come out in public to protest such people not concerned about other’s safety. By adhering to a well thought measure they don’t lose fortune, it’s essential at least now we adhere to it………..kranand

Review of We Need To Talk
Review by kranand
Rated: E | (4.5)
Hi Paul,
I read your “We Need To Talk” as a part of read and review random review exercise. Here are my impressions about it as one of the many readers .
It’s about the sad story of jilted Ian by his date Dana whom he loved and intended to marry 45 years back before he met his present wife Pagie. Dana called and asked for a meet over dinner saying “we need to talk” . It was on that disastrous dinned she declares her intention to marry some one else, returns the ring and the pencil she was playing with on the dinner table, for long before she could muster courage to disclose Ian about her decision to marry some one else.
The description filled with emotion, charged with the pain he lost his much loved date Dana , with a deep burning breath.
I felt sad for his bitter memories, his grief. A well written account of the memories of a jilted love…….kranand

Review of Self-Worth?
Review by kranand

Hi DeanJ,
I read your article “Self-Worth” as a part of my read and review random review exercise. Here are my impressions as a commonplace reader.
It’s a thought provoking article reflecting the ill effects of losing our individuality in the guise of introspection questioning ourselves about self-worth. Here we assume our worth lies in appeasing the requirements of society, family and others sadly forgetting how worthy we are for ourselves. You have elegantly brought out this aspect of introspection about misconceived meaning of self-worth! Further you advise one should do what he likes, what brings you happiness, not what makes others happy. A good line of reasoning is put forth by telling one to do what brings him happiness, it improves his mental health and rectifies ill effects brooding about ill-conceived self-worth .
All these thoughts are packed into a compact article by you , it’s good style to learn to express as much ideas as we can in as few words as possible. I like this skill……..kranand

Here you have narrated the memories of beautiful exhilarating moments of life you spent in the company of your lover you canot forget even if the bitter moments of separation haunts you. Now you want to relive those beautiful moments though you know “once we got back into the car and the rolling hills faded into a city skyline, so too would we fade.”
The scenic beauty you have picturesquely vivid, the metaphors are quite a feast to discerning reader’s palate, you have emotionally bound the reader and sentiments in me to step in tunes , I liked the short and sweet writing you are reliving forgetting the hard cruel realities of the worl around us!.......... kranand

Review of Tea Time
Review by kranand
Rated: E | (4.5)
Hi Alex….,
I read your “Tea Time” as part of read and review random review exercise as one of the reader community at large. Here are my impressions:
It’s about the character ‘I’ having tea party with ‘my’ six year old son all day, about “Tea party”.
Here Bucky is portrayed one who is longing badly for the dad’s company which is snatched by the “meetings” the dad spends with his secretaries like “Ginny”. He needs to play desperately no matter even it’s with his care taker watching him, who appears when the father and son were partying.
A smart and sweet writing bringing out the sixyear old’s anxiety seeking his father’s company that’s usually deprived by the dad’s meetings with his secretaries such as “Ginny”………I liked it portrays the emotions well……..kranand

The reporter’s undermined expectation and the surprise revelation of modern facilities like email, kindle, and reading, fishing hobbies, and the luxurious care free life style are all brought out in a natural free talking style.
I liked the picturesque description of the store of old aged owners and the ease of conversation ……kranand

Hi, Dr.Gonzo,
I read your "Application for Refugee Status" consequent to my random review of your "The Little Blue Planet" and reading I do of related stories of interest.
It's quite a thrilling conversation between "Commander Bill Johnston" and his deputy "First Lieutenant John Barbera" from the "ship Venturer of planet Earth".
It's sad Earth's administration adamant to screen each one of the aliens, taking long years, and in response the aliens barging in on earth in huge numbers , pre-decided to land and clean the earth of its evils and evil doers, an aggressive strategy on both sides.
A point of important to note is both earth and aliens are aware earth once beautiful place to live is getting destroyed by the reckless deployment of technology without necessary measures to prevent it's bad impact of pollution, immediate halt of further deterioration is the utmost need of the hour!
I found the flow of thought is superb, my only suggestion is the the names of the commander and deputy have a similar sounding components "Johnston" and "John" may mislead the reader, better they are changed suitably. You may or may not concur with me but, it's only a suggestion.

A thought provoking story reflecting the human society in a humorous fiction, nicely crafted to pin reader down to read beginning to end,I relished every bit of it. .....kranand

Hi Dr Gonzo ,
I read your “The Little Blue Planet” as a part of my “read and review” random review exercise. Here are my impressions as a reader at large.

It’s the narration by you as an inhabitant of the blue planet about aliens visiting here. You narrate your contemplation about their purpose of visit, their intensions and the views of two distinct groups in them having their own views to help the inhabitants ,one leaving them for themselves to conserve resources, the other to enforce measures to conserve resources on the inhabitants and ultimately take control of the planet.
I liked the way you have put your ideas to conserve resources on the planet as if it’s a subject of aliens’ debate.

The golden words of your lines “Knowing what must be done, does not make it any easier to accept what will be done,” in my opinion expresses the status of implementing measures to conservation, we on earth are facing; we know what to do but many of do not accept the measures.

You indirectly conclude saying if we do not act an alien would enforce it on us and rule over us! I agree, it’s the situation we on earth are in!
I invite you to read my book on this website “Aliens of Milear”
# 2232182 which has similar lines of thought ………..kranand

Review of Finding Home

Hi Fyn,
I read your story “Finding Home” as a part of “read and review” random review exercise. Here are my heart felt impressions as reader at large.
It’s about Abigail /Abbynormal/Aby’s life saga right from childhood to fag end of her life ,stated as a sole daughter for parents with lots of hopes and expectations to a care free self-made mom not sticking to any thing in life but enjoying it as her whims and fancies dictate. For a long time passing through several marriages, bearing and rearing children as a mother to stand on their own legs. At a point of time, she’s free from caring for even the children, becomes single soul, steadfast to eke out living, continues her life alone hopping place to place, till a day she finds a lovely person , loves him, anchors with him in his shanty farm house still a warm place to live and dance to loving tunes. That’s where she gets enlightened about life amidst a family, a home to live, full of life, share each others sentiments .
Initially what starts as a story of aimless wander, she finds the grandeur of a “home” , long reeling narration of heartrending life I couldn’t but read beginning to end practically feeling concern, sympathy, anxiety and appreciation that she ultimately could find her “home”
The realization “Each of us makes our own journey. Connections come and go, fade, or renew. At the innermost heart of it all, all families are very much the same even as they are remarkably different and unique. We each are on a journey to finding home.” is out hands on experience and a great truth and philosophy of life told in her own words.

I liked the way she opened up her life story picturesquely, step by step filling her heartfelt feelings, it’s lovely……….kranand

Hi,” Alex Grimborn”
I read your“Just a Walk” as a part of my “read and review” random review exercise. Here are my impressions as a reader at large.
It’s about Emily and her twenty six cats, compelling her hector to allow for a walk. It’s a lovely comedy beginning to entertain the reader at your lines “…."This old lady is free!" She cackled gleefully” and keeps entertaining all through to the end!
The orange cats’ action is quite funny, mischievous, and friendly, already snatched the cookies and lie in the cabinet where Emily has stashed her cookies!
Some places the description of each cat is so vivid and funny; for example “Two of her cats, one black, the other grey and brown with only three legs, "Oh you want to go outside?"
The use of metaphor likening cats to talk and gesture like humans is adorable!
I enjoyed your writing from the start all through to its end, a master stroke of gentle comedy!..........kranand

Hi “Queen Norma……”
What a strange coincidence, I got your “Bitter Brews “to my lot to read and review” as a random review exercise! I relished reading it the moment I saw the title! More than a review it was quite good bit of writing style I’m carried away, I couldn’t but record here my impressions.
It was a picturesque description of the coffee shop, the distinct character definition, packed into as few words as anyone could, the beauty lies in the surprise finding of Barista as he opened the shop in the morning.
Any way I’m still trying to make out how the two friends Margaret and Penny went out of the shop once their “feeling strange, A bit foggy around the edges” returned to normal, I presume!
The writing gave me a good bit of lesson how to adapt to smart writing!.................kranand

Hi “Cass—Summer spirit”,
I read your “My Rating System” as a part of my random review exercise, I give below some of my impressions as a reader at large.
It’s about rating, a good well thought over guide backed by vast practical experience. For bringing in objectivity such guide gives a ready source of reference to adhere to by every reviewer. It brings a good uniformity of rating irrespective of the person reviewing. I liked the way you have analyzed the matter and made it easy for everyone to follow. With all these in place, reviewing demands it’s own unique capabilities of reviewer and it goes without saying, such capabilities are attained only by those who are good readers and writers with vast experience and maturity.
I see in your attempt to rationalize the system a real good guide for one and all to follow…..kranand
