Review of Mr. Dog
Review by elephantsealer
In affiliation with SENIOR CENTER GROUP
Rated: E | (3.5)
"Mr.Dog" is a short tale of "Marnie", a girl who decides to leave home, and a dog that she adopted as her own. The unfortunate "breakdown" of the bus she traveled on caused her to sleep in a "refrigerator carton in a dark alley". When she awoke, she found she missed her bus; decided to rent a room in the "quaint village", and adopted the dog that licked her.

There are reasons that made "Marnie" to leave home. However, with a dog as company, she settled in the village; and called herself "Onelucky girl".

"Death Doesn't Become You" reminded me of the many times I have attended funeral services. It was always a very sad time, not only for the people connected to the dead, but also for those who attended the services. Although "Angie" was heart-broken with the passing of her "Thomas", in her grief she felt the presence of her beloved "Thomas"; and that is all she needed, really, because she knew that she would have "Thomas'" love that will be hers forever...

Review of The plumber
Review by elephantsealer

When "The plumber" is written about, we always get that feeling of disgust; that we have done something to block the usual good working of a toilet bowl. Nevertheless, in this short tale we find not disgust but hugs, a Ruby ring, and tons and tons of laughter. Here's hoping there will not be any more toilet blockage for the author...

"My breast cancer experience" connected with me because I have a daughter who went through an operation to remove her breast because of cancer. Not only that but my husband has been through millions of cancer treatments for the last many years, and is still going through such treatments. I therefore understand this piece of writing, and I commend the author's feeling of her "world was tilting on its axis."

Knowing of cancer gives a feeling of a never-ending doctor's appointments, going through radiation, getting tested for all kinds of pills in order to get rid of this malignant disease. It is also a very disturbing point to members of families. I therefore understand the very point of this piece of writing; and hope that all will turn out better for the writer. As always, we have to be brave and remember that better and newer medicine to at least remove cancer from the physical body. And also remember that doctors are always looking for the right medicine to help with the cure of this most malignant disease.

To the author: if you need to cry, do so; but look up and listen: there are people who have been cured of this disease. All you need is presence of mind and understanding, that the medical world is there behind you...

It is refreshing to review "Do You Want to Fish or Catch?" because it reminds me of stories I have read about grandfathers and grandchildren. This short tale tells of a grandfather and a granddaughter, of great wishes, and of future fishing adventures. There is love between the old and the young, a love that makes life interesting, a fishing trip that binds two individuals through going fishing.

Review of THE CRAZY DREAM
Review by elephantsealer
In affiliation with SENIOR CENTER GROUP
Rated: E | (3.5)
"The Crazy Dream" is all about dreams, which touched the lives of "Jack" and his "wife, Amy". Sometimes we do dream and realize that our dream has something to do with what happened between two people; and whether or not our actions during the waking hours become part of our thoughts as we sleep. Do we believe that maybe the things that happen between two people become part of a deep thought that becomes a dream...? We wonder...

The author of "Why Small Businesses are Better" writes about the differences between a large business versus a small business; and seems quite certain a small business is the best as opposed to the large business. In some ways, a small store may be better than a large one; however, there are times that a small shop does not have, nor carry, what a buyer needs. So the buyer naturally ends up at a large shop. Small shops do not offer "sales" as compared to large shops. There are larsge stores that are peopled by curteous and accommodating sales persons; and they carry more commodities where one can have a choice. I believe, though, that today's large businesses are promoting a more person to person dealing because people have learned to go shop where they have received better goods, good customer service, and high quality goods...

Review of Too late
Review by elephantsealer
In affiliation with SENIOR CENTER GROUP
Rated: E | (4.5)
Is the author of "Too late" showing us through this tale that it was too late to plan a visit to a family member whose health has been failing; or is the short story showing us our failure, inability to show love or prove our love to a brother "in failing health"?

It is indeed a question of whether or not we have love towards a family member who is mentioned as "failing" in health as well as our inability to act as quickly as possible to visit the brother, who as a member of a family, should have been visited days before the "virus got there first", to show our deep love to a member of a family. There are various reasons we fail to show our love to a brother/sister/parents/or whoever just because we are too busy...

Review of Retribution
Review by elephantsealer
In affiliation with SENIOR CENTER GROUP
Rated: 13+ | (4.5)
"Retribution" tells us of a hatred that became the very thing that snapped the life of a daughter. Why must we hate? Why must we hate another race? Are they not as human as we are? Why must there be this hatred that becomes the very thing that rouses one human into disposing, thereby killing humans without pity? How does one human become so enraged, so inhuman that his life's aim is to dispose of other humans he thought are not worthy to live? And what is the consequence of this hatred but another human getting disposed off? What was that question that rings through: I am the Lord God; I only have the right to kill...

As "Ruby" realized the end of her life, she remembers her therapist's mistake, "when he spoke of there only being the here and now" because now she had been chosen to pay for the sins of her father because "someone has to pay, no matter how long it takes." Are we as humans never ever going to learn the supremacy that God has over and upon us?

Review of The worm turns
Review by elephantsealer
In affiliation with SENIOR CENTER GROUP
Rated: E | (4.5)
"The worm turns" is a sad tale about family; the meaning and the sense of family. However, this tale does not necessarily mean a family who love and respect each other. Rather this story reveals the most unfortunate and evil side of what a family is and has bescome. Why does a family turn into something awful, without love, without respect, without consideration? Is it because the people in this family are humans; and humans are such awful individuals who have no love in their hearts? The most awful phase of this tale is the father's "revenge" as he calls it; an act most evil that only a father decides to do.

As the title of the tale says, the worm finally thought everything over, turned and struck...A most appropriate title, indeed.

The story of "Me and Ralphie WC 259" reveals a sadness of a friend with regard to "Ralphie". However, it also reveals the goodness of one person as he entertains "Ralphie". There is a sadness when one gets old. However, there is a gladness in sharing a memory with an old friend...

This tale does bring about the meaning of friendship as one person entertains another, even as one of them has become a "nursing home" individual...

To the author of "More Than A Million Dreams", what a frightening way to live for "Lilia" as she tries to unravel the mystery of "sleep"... I cold almost feel her attempts to figure out what to do, how to find a way to sleep, why she did not fall asleep, where to find the answer to all the questions running in her mind. And when she finally did close her eyes, it was "before two million gigabytes of digital memory started to upload" as she sat at her computer. Will Lilia start dreaming, too???????

What a frightening experience; I would not want it at all, even in dreams.... Will Lilia find the answer to all her questions??????? Will there still be a world of people, alive and active people, that is?????

"Are you threatening me?" is a tale of an argument between a wife and her husband. Had it not been for the presence of a "cat", I believe the argument may have turned into a "big fight"; maybe some injuries to both, and possibly a separation... However, the author was wise to include a cat that gave her/him the opportunity to bring two hotheads to a realization that arguments are not the way to a happy marriage...

"Amanda's Journey WC 292" tells of errors, human errors. If one human mistake becomes a burden to a person, should there be a certain sympathy offered, especially by the family of the one whose mistakes have become well known? I believe that family love is a unique character that becomes a certainty between family members; and that belief seems shattered because this short tale does bring about the dread that is in the heart of "Amanda"... However, "Amanda's" future is assured when she finally assumes the mistakes will forever be in the past...

Review of Chapter 1

WritingCoffeeBear's "Chapter 1" is a short and lovely memory of a love between father and daughter. As the past came tumbling back, the daughter realizes the love of not only the father but also that of her sisters; a realization that kept her heart joyous and filled with love...

Writing about love, especially about love between family members, we learn that such a love becomes the strength that binds families together.

Hey, there, WritingCoffeeBear (1), re: your "How to be Friends with Pinoys". Great suggestion, of course. When you feed another, there is always a chance you have given someone a new sense on what life really is... Hunger, either physically or spiritually, are two great areas on which one person realizes there is a thread of "love" that comes with an offer of food... Great suggestion, I should say...

Review of Flow
Review by elephantsealer

You are quite right, WritingCoffeeBear(1), with your interpretation of "flow". When we are writing, our thoughts "flow" causing our fingers to produce words that make up a story, a poem, a criticism without thinking. The thinking process is strong that guides our fingers to fly and produce words that become the results of our ideas/thoughts. And we wonder why we do not write as often as possible?

Review of Night Terrors

"Night Terrors" tells us of Suzanna and "her prophetic dreams"; dreams that sent her to her death. How possible is it, as humans, to lose our life because of our dreams? Maybe Suzanna was still half asleep when she drove out of her garage; or maybe the warmth that started to make her feel uncomfortable, made her feel dizzy, and may have contributed to her death...

This is a sad tale as well as a warning to drivers, that one must definitely make certain of one's ability to drive good in order to become a safe driver...

Review of Silence
Review by elephantsealer
In affiliation with SENIOR CENTER GROUP
Rated: E | (3.5)
"Silence" is a tale of a handcuffed "Hugh", who was shot before he had a chance to answer to a question put to him by the "killer". Who is the "killer" and who is Hugh? And what did Hugh commit that got him kille4d? Why trudge through the snow? Why not just shoot Hugh right where he was first handcuffed? Why go through all the trouble of trudging through the snow, make him stand in the mniddle of the cabin, on a rug, ask him a question without receiving a response before Hugh was able to answer? Is the whole idea is to shoot Hugh where his body may never be found due to the "secluded" place of his death?

This tale is: we have a shooter and a "Hugh"; and because we do not have a reason behind the killing, we are left with a mystery...

Review of Rasputin

As I review "Rasputin", I realize that I feel the same way as the author: that indeed Vladimir Putin is mad and crazy. How can one person ruin the lives of people? Is there a God somewhere? Why does Putin do it? Create a war against peace-loving people? Surely, he must be mad???????? How else can one interpret what Putin is doing?

Review of First Whale

Why does a 16-year old boy decide to become a whaler as portrayed in a very short tale, "First Whale"? Is it because he wants to tell his mother he is now old enough to work? Or it is because he wants to prove to himself that being a whaler would make him a fearless boy? Whatever his reasons, we are presented with a question: why?

We all start something spectacular to prove to give our ego to shine as well as a chance to learn whether or not we can do the job. Fear is something we learn to face, and this boy definitely faced up to it...

Review of Once upon a time

It is indeed a puzzle, sometimes, when two strangers meet and realize that a long time ago, they shared a smile as per Sumojo's "Once upon a time". A girl and a boy decide to take a vacation, separate from one another; and remembering a meeting a long time ago made their holiday a memory of a place in the mountains.

It is a short tale that gives meaning to a vacation that was taken by two individuals...

"Solitude's Symphony" tells of a tree that bore "witness to the symphony of solitude." This is a piece of writing that shows the many faces of emotions: loneliness, pride; and as the tree embraces "the canvas of the universe", the reader begins to understand the meaning of it "embracing the solitude that had become its greatest companion."

I simply love to read this piece of work...and would like to let the writer know how much I have enjoyed it...

"The Gold Incisor WC:298", is a tale of a person's intention to commit harm upon another; and the purpose of it all is to harm and to steal a gold tooth. In this tale, Carl seems to feel that Brandy is one of many who aims to hurt him and steal his gold tooth.

It is a good tale that brings to mind that writers have the kind of sense to think of stories that bring about the evil intent of one person towards another. Kudos to the writer...

"A Boy and His Rugby Shirt" tells a beautiful tale of love between a boy and his shirt. It is a wonderful tale of excitement and laughter as well as a tale of a bond that a boy formed with his shirt. The author's story shows how an idea becomes a wonderful feeling of a love, of memories of togetherness, of wonder and friendship that becomes an adventure in the spirit of a journey in life.

The writer tells a story of wonder and excitement, and how the mind of a writer can create something that is enjoyable and wonderful to read.
