I was gonna leave your portfolio when I decided to re-read this text. I never really understood what you meant when you said it's not really about the mall, but I think I'm finally seeing the metaphor now: the mall as the world.
I'm realizing it was there all along, in the choice of vocabulary. Words like "ballet" and "a vastness that feels gravitational" give it this cosmic feel. And suddenly "I have nowhere to be" and "This place pretends it has a purpose" hit on a much deeper level: existential.
The dry humor about the air-conditioning is fitting too - unfortunately, the current heatwave gives this line more meaning. I love this new understanding of your text. It also makes the father's words click for me: "This world isn't for people like us," and that nagging pressure to follow the crowd. By the end, the mall feels like society itself.

Review of Remember the Blessing

I really like this short reminder. It's contemplative and calm.

My favorite part is: "The weak remind the strong: no strength is yours but by God's grace." I've been taking my strength for granted recently, so that really resonated with me.

And maybe I'm both the judge and the wounded. That bears no good fruit, does it?
