A very touching holiday poem. Having it from the perspective of the Christmas tree allows the reader to step back and see the special feelings around the holidays. Such a loving and happy tree. Sad that the tree knows that it will die soon. I liked how you made the poem look like a Christmas tree. I enjoyed this poem.

Review of Your Will Be Done

A conversation that I feel many people have had with God and/or with themselves countless times. Giving over that power takes away free will, BUT, it also frees the spirit by removing doubt. This conversation shows faith in pure form. Very simply put, but very insightful. I enjoyed the piece.

Review of Ides of March

Very brief, ominous poem. You pack a lot of warning in such a brief poem. In a mere three lines you convey a very dire warning of the "Ides of March." "Bad tides" could mean oh so many things, it fully engages the mind in figuring it out. I really enjoyed this poem.

It is easy to see why this was awarded first place. The extremely brief poem taught a very lofty lesson about being a "know-it-all". The jaunty rhythm keeps you from feeling sorry for Barb. The justice served at the end was amusing. I enjoyed reading this poem.

A strong start to a story. The characters were compelling and believable. I do wonder how her mother's body was used strategically against the enemies. I liked that bit, piques the imagination as to the myriad of ways she could be used. There is more story to tell. I enjoyed reading this.

A formidable and diverse list of languages. It is quite the challenge for you to undertake, I wish you luck on achieving it. I would like to learn Gaelic myself. It is such a beautiful language. I respect your goal of learning languages that come from your heritage.

A nice poem about a very relatable experience. The story this poem tells, I believe is that dichotomy most parents feel when their babies return to school. The flow easily carried me through the entire poem. Even though the children will push the limit of your sanity, you love them and feel empty when they are not by your side doing those things that push you. I enjoyed this poem.

Review of Lost and Found

An entertaining story. Turtle never gives up on his dream, even though it is unrealistic. He discovers other things on his journey to learn to fly. The character is compelling. I like how you never reveal if Turtle is a name or is named Turtle because he is a turtle. I enjoyed this story.

An interesting short story. You managed to pack a lot of story in under 100 words. A very surprising ending. When you first used magma, it thought it was miss used, but at the end, it was properly used. I found it a funny little story. I enjoyed reading it.

Review of Time

An unexpected journey through time. The bit about the time between seconds was very intriguing. The imagery paints a rich picture of the concept of time. The musical terms like crescendo adds to the rhythm. The flow was smooth. I enjoyed reading this poem.

A very romantic poem. The love you share together is felt in every line. I like how you focus on the love instead of the lust. The imagery shows the depth of the love you have for her. You expose your heart which is a beautiful thing. I really enjoyed reading this.

Review of Trick, Not Treat

A very amusing poem. The lighthearted story of a vampire being "tricked" by garlic is perfect for Halloween. The surprise at the end was unexpected and was entertaining. The imagery was both scary and funny. The flow was jaunty and smooth. I enjoyed reading this.

A very powerful piece. Your struggle with depression and suicide ideation can be felt in every line. I am sorry that you are having this struggle. I hope you have gotten to a better place. This piece can give voice to others having similar experiences and help them not feel so alone. Thank you for sharing such a deeply personal issues.

A pleasant poem paying tribute to the end of one season and the beginning of another one. I liked how you did not fall into the trap of merely educating about the holiday and the connection to labor. The hope one feels with the beginning of a new "chapter" i.e. season is clearly felt in every line. I enjoyed this poem.

Two stories of love separated by centuries. They illustrate that time may change, but love never really changes. I liked the reference to "8 ladies milking" from "The Twelve Days of Christmas." It was subtle and amusing. I liked how you had the first woman playing her violin for the swans as well as her lover. I enjoyed these two stories.

You successfully rose to the challenge. The imagery painted a detailed picture of how love feels, a daunting task with the forbidden words. The required words were even more challenging. Using "aroma" without "love, heart or sex" made it even more challenging. I enjoyed reading this poem.

A very tantalizing chapter. The chapter grabs the reader from the opening line. Sarah is a compelling character. In the line, "Jeremiah was another law clerk at the law firm where he worked," did you mean, "where she worked? The reader is wanting Sarah and Jeremiah to get together. Since this is an erotic story, you may want to describe Sarah and Jeremiah physically, or leaving it for the reader to imagine could work too. Telling the story from first person perspective personalizes it. I enjoyed this chapter.

A very intense poem. The sense of loss is felt strongly in every line. I am sorry for your loss. Your love for her is very clear here. The flow took me through the journey easily. A very powerful poem showing raw emotion and vulnerability. Thank you for sharing.

A very promising start to a beautiful love story. The protagonist is compelling, believable and very likable. The reader is already rooting for her to find the love she so desperately wants. She is a very relatable character in that she wants love but is scared to go looking for it. I enjoyed this chapter.

An interesting take on a murder story. Telling it from the assassin's perspective was engrossing. I found the character, "Stone cold" compelling. Not revealing the person who hired the assassin, or why engages the reader in figuring that out for themselves. I enjoyed reading this.

Review of Dirty Sinks...

A bittersweet story of romance thwarted. Having the object of her love leave gives a sympathetic touch to her. The characters were compelling and believable. Having it end with the sad, almost pathetic sight of the washed cup in the dirty sink puts the perfect period on this piece. I enjoyed reading this.

A very dark tale indeed. The characters where compelling. Having him transform into the ghost woman's murderer before she drags him to his death was a unique ending which is hard to accomplish. You took what could have been a run-of-the-mill ghost story into something else. I Liked reading this story.

A highly entertaining story. I really love Grandma, she was just perfect. Both your characters were compelling and believable. I like how Grandma use humor to make her granddaughter feel better instead of using platitudes. I really enjoyed reading this story.

A very enjoyable and informative poem. The imagery draws a lovely picture of the formation of fossils. The flow very easily carried me on the journey from flower to fossil. The repetition of the phrase, "Stone is the flower" both brought the poem together and showed the dichotomy of the strength and frailty of a flower. I enjoyed reading this poem.

Review of How it works

A wonderful short story. I liked how you managed to get the start of a murder mystery in at the end. The character was compelling and believable. Most people will be able to relate to the creative process and facing the blank page. I really enjoyed this.
