Review of The Phantom’s Reckoning

Creepy. This poem could be set almost anywhen and anywhere. Any war, any training camp. The idea of a soldier being killed by friendly fire is one of the most uncomfortable aspects of war to me. It happens and that in no way lessens the loss. I initially thought that the ghost was just confronting one of his comrades but it seems he is haunting his whole squad. This makes me wonder at the exact circumstance of the friendly fire incident. It is well written and ominous in tone building to a satisfying ending.

Review of Hybrid Mastermind: LitRPG, chapter 1

Oh man, this does not sound like a position I would like to be in. I hate role playing games which make you choose at the beginning how your entire game will turn out without really explaining the consequences. This really sounds like it sucks for them. I think I would read more. It is not in a standard fiction format, but it works for me to follow it easily. I wonder just what the results of his choice will be and if he will get back out of the game.

Review of Bravery and Goals

This poem was a little tense for me, Like the expectations for it are unmatchable and the anxiety over that fact is nearly painful to the author. I appreciate the feelings and sentiments. I feel like every other author is familiar with this head space. It can be hard to struggle through. It makes inspiration and goals feel uncomfortable and unreachable.

Review of 2026-Once a week!

Oooh. I love it! This is an awesome story. You took this prompt to the max and then pushed it further. EMPEROR! For real? I just hope my cats do not have this attitude towards me. I like to think they love us not just expect us to serve. It would be disturbing to find that they were kissing up because they have no choice. I wonder what would happen to the world if this actually happened.

Review of "It's in the Script!"

That was some good fan fiction. I like the story and the way she handled the problem she had with the dialog. I do not know the show or the character but if it was not something her character would say then I approve that she stuck to her guns and did not say it. It shows an integritiy of character, both fictional and of the actor. I like the story and I see why it got so far with the awards.

Review of A Life Well Raised - Chapter 1

I love this! I love the way you turned the idea of turning the ultimate evil in a fantasy novel into a likeable sympathetic character. I really feel like she does not feel like she is evil. And I actually want to believe her. The "heroes" have been transformed into intolerant aggressive villians just by how they are relentlessly pursuing her death. She does not seem like she really wanted to be a villian and is confused by their insistence that she is a villain. I would definitely read more of this, could you send me a link to more please?

Review of A Tick in the Night

I am an animal lover and I love the way this ended, rather than destroying the rat he welcomed it into his life as a pet. That said it is a very cute story. I like the way Jamie shows his character through his behavior. He manages not to get angry enough to do harm to the poor rat even though the damn thing was effectively torturing him. I like the slapstick bit where he is trying to catch the blind rat with the net. I am really glad the snap rat traps were not successful. I would hope he takes the rat to the vet to see if anything can be done for his vision.

Review of No Rain

Oh my goodness, this is a tragic story. I can not belive how sad it is. I was hoping it would rain at the end but no, there was no magical redemptive rainstorm restoring the land. The drought had ruined the farm, his marriage and his mental health. I wonder how he is financially making it now without any income. Is there a chance he could recover from this if the drought were to end? I can only hope it would be possible because the story is absolutely depressing without even a hint of hope. That said it is well writen and really made me feel for the farmer and his family. It made me think too. Great story.

I love this. The world building is awesome. The past they are coming from manages to be vivid even though there is not an info dump about it. I loved the balance between the backstory and the plot. I love the idea of a found family of scavengers following a dream based on an awesome almost unreal and unhoped for tech from the time before. I loved all of the characters and the hope they found in a hopeless world. it was awesome. I would love to read more about this crew and the adventures ahead of them. They could support a whole book they are so vivid and cool.

Review of Complications of Love

This is a cute story of adoration. It totally fills the required prompt. The ending makes me wonder why he was married to the first wife in the first place. The old girlfriend seems like she is definitely a better fit for him. I love the way he goes weak in the knees for her even just a picture on facebook. He seems so sweet in his infatuation. His first wife seems like she is just a bit of a witch with a "B". Dumping him for someone else seems a low blow, no wonder he was looking up his ex, his wife clearly was not properly focused on him. I tried to do that class but just could not complete it. I am glad it inspired you to this end.

Review of The Great Zombie Pumpkin

This is a cute little poem. I enjoy the rhyme and rhythm of it. I think the ending is really funny. I like the idea of a zombie pumpkin avenging all the pumpkins that have had their "brains" removed to become Jack-o'-lanterns. I can see it bumbling along attempting to eat the brains of trick or treaters. I can see it getting kicked in the head and that would be that for another year. Great poem, thank you for sharing.

Review of A Rejoicing Heart

This is beautiful. Four independent Haikus strung together into a longer poem with a concerted theme and tone. I love this piece of writing. It really does bring me the feels of the joyus and rejoicing heart that the title promises. I have not read a poem in a while that fullfills the promise of the title as well as this one does. I have only rarely felt this mood myself but this poem resonates with those points in my life. I really like and appreciate the effort that the author went to in writing this. Great poem.

Review of Some Wet Kisses

Review by rinsoxyMail Icon
Rated: E
Ewe, people slobbers. I thought only puppies kissed that wet. Sorry that is the first place my mind went. It definitely delivers on the title really wet kisses a plenty. It really draws the picture in my head so i think it served its purpose and reached its goal. I love the emotion and the physicality of the kisses. I see a couple madly in love and stealing kisses from each other. It is rather endearing. This is an old item and i really enjoyed it so I hope this review comes as a nice surprise to the author.

Review of Stealing Time

This is a cute little story with a timely message. The language and tone is simple like a story being told to children to teach them a lesson before they have to learn things the hard way. Which is exactly what our logged in and tuned out world needs. We need to listen to this message and act upon it because whether the time just randomly goes missing like that or just melts away as we doom scroll we are losing time everyday in meaningless ways. I like the story that came from this prompt. It seems to be a small stretch from the prompt like this is the story that should have happened. One thing though, mention of the "Time Lord," took me right out of the story and set me thinking about doctor who. If there is anything else that you could have called that character i would recommend changing it for the sake of not distracting from your story.

Review of Two Lovers Walking in the Evening Light

Oooh how cute and sweet this is. I love the emotional tone. The way it breathes the start of new love as it forms. The idea of the setting drawing them together like that is beautiful. I wish I knew about this contest when it was going on. I also wonder what the prompt was for it. I like to make sure to put the prompts for my stuff in a drop note for my future reference and also for any curious readers. It is a good poem, and I like it.

Review of The Meeting

Interesting story, all of the build up as to what was going on between the main character and "Garcia" that in the end comes to almost nothing. They clearly have some kind of relationship, are they spies, is one of them blackmailing the other, is it some kind of secret society thing? I do not know and I guess we like the main character will never find out the reason behind this clandestine meeting. It is well written and am interested in the contest or activity that this was for. I do not think it is running anymore. That reminds me about just how many contests have come and gone from this site over my time here. Now that is leading me down a dark road. This story made me think and question and that is the best kind of story.

Review of Fiction Writing: Scenes are Important

Review by rinsoxyMail Icon

I loved this. It described the types of scenes accurately and in an easily consumed manner. Then it gives examples of each kind. I like the writer's voice and enjoyed the flow and wording. The choices of examples of each scene were new to me, as I had not read any of them before. They titilated me almost to the point of wanting to read the overall works they were from. I have no suggestions on how to make this better because i feel it really fulfilled the promise of what it was. This is an old piece of writing that I did not know I wanted to read, and I am glad that the random read and review brought it to my attention.

Ooh this is a creepy one. I love that you do such a great job of telling the story in poetic form. I tend to have a lot of trouble when i do that. I can paint a mood, express feelings, set a scene but for some reason i can not seem to write a good story poem. that is why successful attempts always impress me so very much. The poem flows and i love the climax it is perfect. I miss the darkdreamscapes contests and those that ran them. I won the short story version once and treasure the merit badge to this day but I do not think I even placed at any point in the poetry version. Congratulations on the win. I wish I could compare the the results with the image prompt but that just is not possible anymore. Great poem!

Review of 30 Years Later

This is a dip into a nostalgic past. A revisiting of a golden time. It shines a light on a life well lived with seemingly few regrets. I wish I could say I had a golden age. My life has been full of bouts of depression. Pieces of writing like this are wonderful because they show me what lived experiences different from my own are like and this is a very good example of that. I would like to think that i can write things that make others feel them the way this made me feel this.

What a positive and uplifting poem. I love the message. It is something that everyone needs to hear, or read. It is direct and does not beat around the bush. It is well written. I did not see any glaring errors or mistakes. Good job.

Review of Life Giving Rains

This is a pretty looking poem. The actual meat of the poem is even more beautiful. It draws you into the earth absorbing the blessing of moisture on a hot august day. The word choices are wonderful and I like the rhyming of rays and haze. I like it when words that look like they should not rhyme are paired and prove that they do rhyme. I really liked this poem. Just one question what contest or activity is this prompt from. I always wonder when there is a clear prompt like this. I find that it is information i want in my own drop notes when i come back to old items because someone has reviewed them.

This is the second chapter of this that I have read. It brings up a lot of past issues being dragged into the present for the main character. I do not know precisely the circumstances he is facing but he appears to have just graduated from secondary school and is looking forward to college or university I do not know very much about the setting and world he is occupying a little more information on that would be enjoyed but it is a good chapter. It was a fun read.

This is surprisingly dark in its subject matter considering the lightheartedness of the rhymes and the naming of the main subject. the rhymes are good and everything but he is a really sick and twisted character. Peeping is the first step a lot of serial killers have taken in their carreers and they tend to be more careful than he is being in not getting caught. He just does not care. That is kind of scary what is stopping him from breaking in and molesting her? At some point his hand is not going to be enough.

This is an interesting experimental way of writing a story. I am not sure it really hit its goal, but I am not sure that it did not. It was clear to me what was happening and I could totally see a research nerd falling for his subject like that and not having the emotional intelligence or vocabulary to articulate it. Their confusion is apparent. And made me chuckle a bit. I think your note on the story could go at the end after the footnotes and not look awkward.

This is a cool story poem. I like the conundrum it offers and would really like to know the reason the shadows act wonky. It left me curious to the end which is what anyone visiting this town would be. Is it the sun doing it? Does the moon do the same thing? What is the result of this effect. Is it just visual or is there some sort of psychic component. I have so many questions. What made you think of this?
