Review of Resuscitation Attempt #43

This is an amazing story poem. Written well, I couldn't tell it was a forty third attempt from the poem itself, it just flowed so naturally for me in the reading i could not see how it could have taken so many attempts. That means you have worked really hard on this editing and tuning it very well. The effort involved has produced an effortless seeming poem and that is always impressive.

Review of The Trick-Blade Engagement (Kreesh)

I like it I think it tells a necessary piece of these lovers story. The dialect was hard to follow at first but I got into the flow of it pretty quickly.. I thought her infatuation with him was amazingly cute. His love for her was adorable too. The way they both stretched across the boundaries of their cultures to try to meet in the middle impresses me. If only there were more loves like this in our world. Maybe they can manage to change their world just a little bit.

Review of The Great Potty War - 21 Lines - 2/26

Omg! Hilarious! Potty war indeed. I think boys are harder to train, they get it in their heads to try and hit targets and everything in the house is a potential target. Stickers in the potty help with that though... This poem captures the subject beautifully..

Okay, now I am incredibly curious. What contest was this written for? I know it has been twenty-odd years since you wrote it, but I am curious about the prompt and the contest requirements. I always try to make notes on the prompt and the contest so I am not left with these same questions on my own items. I do it in a drop note so it doesn't distract from the story or poem.

Review of Chalk Dust & Broomsticks, Chapter 15

This is a marvelously magical story. I love the scene about the flight. I don't know how it fits with the school scene, but I love it anyway. I assume that it makes sense with the other chapters of this story. I might even go and search them out to satisfy my curiousity. It teases something good that well.

Wow that is an ambitious poem and style to write. I love the patterns you make with the words. It is lovely. I almost want to give this poetry style a try. YOu made it look easy and I know it is not as simple as you made it look. Did you win?

Review of Call to Arms

This is a cute and sweet little poem. I love it. It really evokes feelings of childhood in me. I remember setting my friends and I out on quests as advised by Tabitha my stuffed stegosaurus. We battled the evil sharp toothed dinos and rescued the my little ponies from toy soldiers. I just love what this poem captures.

This is an energetic poem. I like the flow and the progression of the sensations and feelings of a live concert. Something I did notice as I was reading is that this would make a guitar-shaped poem if you center-justified it. At least that is how it looks to me at this reading.

Review of Love is not free

This is a really good poem. A couple of lines are a little awkward to read. Try reading it aloud to make sure your tenses and numbers agree. I like that it takes you all the way through love from beginning to the end. Though we always hope that this one is the one where love will not end.

Review of The Meditation Room

This is more of a poem than a story. It shows the experience of attempting meditation, at least as I understand meditation. I can never clear my mind properly enough. Things always butt in randomly making it truly difficult to focus. You can not really hunt for enlightenment or peace when the mcdonalds jingle is playing in your head on repeat without any real reason.

This is a sad poem. It almost made me cry. I could feel the raw pain behind the words. The irony the sarcasm all tempered by love, it was beautiful. The anger at god was clear. The anger at the the lost loved one was there too. But love was stronger and i could feel it.

This is cool, and it makes me want to try starting a contest that I have been thinking about. You make me think it would be possible that there might be entries. This is a really good poem. It is inspiring how well you did putting so much into so few words.

I like this poem. I had to double check that it was indeed an acrostic. The way it is centered in the page threw me off. I am used to acrostics all being left margin aligned so you can easily read the words from top to bottom. But that is format issues not against the substance of the poem which spoke to me.

This page makes it sound like I missed out on a really cool contest. I am really sad that I didn't get to enter, but it was before my time. The prompts sound really cool and I think I might write something for a couple of them. I so would have entered in most of the no entry months.

THis is a really nonsensical story of an inept cop. He should not be on the job. I love how far the car got though. I question why the gas station attendant would put gas in it and set it on its way. It is ridiculous, in a good way. The whole story made me laugh. I loved it!

Review of The Trees Are Growing

Review by rinsoxyMail Icon

I felt the first simile was a strong comparison. The next two seemed like less effort since they both involve plants, and a tree is a plant. they just weren't different enough to paint a picture in my mind. Now for the bad news, none of them are metaphors. They are similes. Metaphors transform things without the use of "like" or "as." Metaphors state that one object is another unrelated object to draw a symbolic meaning.

Trees are babies growing up to become adults.          works

Trees are flowers growing in a garden.                    sort of works

Trees are plants growing strawberries and peaches.          does not work it

peaches grow on trees          true but not a metaphor

strawberries grow on trees           false and not a metaphor because trees are plants.

I'm not trying to tear you apart; I am just trying to help you. I don't even think they teach it in school anymore. But as writers, we need to know. I hope I explained the terms so that they are clear.

Hey, we all have our weaknesses; mine are commas and spelling. Fortunately for me, Grammarly catches that kind of thing. Now you know similes (with like or as) and metaphors (with to be words)

I am curious what the prompt was. I like to see how well contest entries follow their prompts. Especially when it comes to winning pieces. It gives me some idea how the judge's mind works. I do not understand the first line it does not feel right when read aloud especially not with the second line though I love this poem.

Review of Is It Worth It?

What a well rounded poem. It ties itself up in a pretty bow at the end of the story. Quite well written.it maintains the same phrase all of the way through the poem, following it like a formula or a roadmap. The scared new parent growing wiser. What I do wonder is if his wife survived the birth of their daughter.

This is a sad life for a man made cynical by years of rescuing towns from crooked lawmen.

In the reward money paragraph it needs to either be a gunman or gunmen in my opinion to read right.

My wish is that sticky is wrong and the sheriff manages to stay honest.

Oh my! What a clueless man. Ballroom dancing is a gift. A desk set is a gift. Dinner at a nice restaurant is a gift. Buying a bar and grill is a burden he shouldn't be adding to her overflowing plate of worries. Year 8 is probably going to end up in a divorce.

I love it!!! The prompt words blend into the story like the just happened to be there. I always love stories that manage that with required words. You explained the prompt well, but mentioning and or linking the original contest or challenge would be nice, for next time.

Wow!!! That is powerful. It is well written, painted with words that captured what the camera could not. Amazing! It draws the color and sensations across my eyelids as I blink between phrases in disbelief at the details such few words managed to paint.

Ooh, party-crashing pickpockets, interesting choice for main characters. This is a dark story with a loving, life-changing moment in a couple's history being tarnished by a two-person crime wave. Are they going to get sticky fingers for the wedding presents?

Hey, hello kitty isn't that bad if your a ten year old girl... But into the twenties, or thirties? Still not the worst thing she could be into. It could have been 20 living cats... I like the sentences "Snakes, I could deal with. Hello Kitty? Man, that’s just whacked." It totally polishes off the story perfectly.

Wow, that is a disaster. I was expecting the plane to crash or something, not for it to save the whole family and every other passenger. The scariest thing about the story is that it isn't completely implausible. That is an almost apocalyptic disaster.
