Well, Shirley, this story has played out time and time again. A young man dies just before the end of hostilities.

I liked this work. It's a perennial tale of useless suffering and loss. Great job.

Well, Michael, that was a delightful story. I haven't known Harmon for very long, but I already have gained some affection for him, and even have some idea of how he looks in his cape with sword in hand.

I found your story well written, with a storyline that carried me along with Harmon in his great adventure. This story makes me want to hear more. Will Harmon embark on future adventures? I hope he does. I, for one, would like to know that our brave little hedgehog has more adventures to come.

This was a great job, Michael. You ought to consider a series.

Review of New Beginnings

Hello, Crissy. I was just checking out my favorites list to see who I haven't reviewed in a while and guess who I picked?

This is a very heartfelt and touching work. The lines reveal loss, strength, and hope for the future. Many people would not have survived their trials if not for the presence of faith. Thank you for sharing your heart with those who will take the time to read. Great job.

With Warm Regards,

Hello, Joe. If you don't have a ton of stories from your years of healing, I cannot imagine anyone who would. There is no doubt that you should write about your career in medicine. You may well come to be known in the Writing.com community as
Doctor Joe.

I really appreciated your poem. It was very interesting and says a great deal about you.

I hope you will continue to grace us with your life experiences.

With Kind Regards,

Sounds awesome, Neva. You must write 24/7. I write a great deal, but I doubt seriously that I could keep up such a pace. I would imagine that it helps if things are laid out and there is no guess work.

Fare thee well in your week of writing,

Review of Writer's Block
Review by Crow
Rated: E | (4.0)
Well, Firefang, you've gotten this far. You only have the rest of your life to go. Writers never stop asking the same questions over and over again. Personally, I never let writer's block disturb me. I know that the ideas will come when they are ready. Until that time, I just read and read and read some more. Most importantly, write about what you know and love. Be true to your own voice, and don't be afraid to let it speak out. I'll sit at my typewriter and begin to type. Very often there is an idea hidden between the lines. Ahh, there you are, just where I thought you would be.

I enjoyed reading of your personal torture. Be careful with banging your head on the desk, though. You can be sure of one thing; many writers will relate and sympathize. Just keep on writing.

That was just great, SandraLynn. Your Thanksgiving dinner seems like a gathering of good food and fine company.

Your descriptions put the reader at the table hoping the dark meat doesn't get snatched to quickly. Being the hostess at such an event is a big job. You describe the position perfectly. I felt like pulling up a chair and getting down to business. This was fin writing.

Wow! That is nightmare indeed. I get the same impression of the beautiful woman turning into a hideous old woman in 'The shinning' That was scary and so is this. Great job of building the tension. I have noticed that to be a key element in those stories of yours that I have read. I believe that if I keep reading your work I will learn a lot about storytelling.

Another great piece of writing, Angus.

Greetings, CC. Let me welcome you to a the writing community of Writing.com. I trust you will stay and grow with the thousands of writers that call this place home. Whatever you wanted to know about writing you will find here. There is so much here that it takes a while to find your way around, but the signs are clearly posted. I hope you have plenty of writing within you because there are many who would like to give it a once over.

Now, about your poem. You're going to have to help me just a bit. I didn't quite understand your description of this piece. What do you mean by "White lighter"? I realize that you poets can be somewhat enigmatic, so I will chalk it up to my ignorance.
If you would be so kind as to explain this work to me, I would be most appreciative. In any case, I did enjoy reading your work.

With Regards,

Review of My Life's Musings
Review by Crow

Hello, Jeannie. It appears that your life has been one filled with many highs and lows. No one would say that it hasn't been interesting. You know, Jeannie, I find that one of the most fascinating things about us humans is our capacity to remember. The memory is amazing. One night when you are lying in bed, attempt to take a virtual walk through your childhood home. Walk down the halls and enter the rooms. Notice what is in the room. You will be amazed at what your memory has retained, even those things you thought were forgotten.

I enjoyed reading your work. Our life is one of the great and beautiful mysteries. I wish you and your family well.

Good morning. Is that Mouser as your port cover? Pretty kitty.

I like what you had to say in this piece, but I don't think I would have put it in stanza form. Of course, that's just opinion. There's a missing period here and there but no big deal. Overall, I think you did a good job expressing your thoughts.

Hello, Malister. You say you are back. Have you been gone for a while? In any case, this is quite a piece of work. You sound a little angry; are you angry? I'm just toying with you. When it comes to your subject matter, there is a lot to be angry about. I really don't understand how some people in positions of power feel entitled to follow whatever inclination strikes them. I'm sure we could converse on this subject at length, but suffice it to say that it seem to be everywhere you look. Was it always there and we just refused to talk about it? Of course, there will be more revelations, many more.

A very nice case of venting, Unfortunately, it is all too true. Well done and well said.

Review of Fall

Hello, from one _ group _ of _ cells to another. You wouldn't be dead right now if you had any sense. Skydiving is probably the most ridiculous things a person could do. Who packed that chute? Well, it wasn't the fall that killed you...

Seriously, this was a great piece, if not a predictable one. I had a female friend that went skydiving in Australia. I told her if her chute didn't open I would fly to where her body was and kill her for being stupid.

Great job of writing.

Review of A Writer's Lament
Review by Crow
Rated: E | (5.0)
Hello, Marilyn. I am completely sold on encouragement, although there are those who have done their best to enroll me in the 'Tell It Like It Is School' I have reviewed many types of writers. I must honestly say that some were, well, let me say that they should study writing before they start putting it out there for everyone to take a shot at. But, whatever the case, I will always give as much encouragement as I can. I have had my writing slammed for no apparent reason. In other cases I have taken the good advice that was given to me.

As I mentioned before, some reviewers belong to the 'If You Don't Want To Know Don't Ask' crowd. The pride themselves on being brutally honest. I'm not a young writer. I've been writing for many years. I can tell when a review is hogwash, but many younger writers can't tell the difference and are devastated when they are given a slap across the face. I have had pieces of mine reviewed when it was obvious that the reviewer didn't understand the subject matter. The question at that point becomes, why did they review what they did not understand and harm the overall rating?

I am sorry for rambling on, but I agree with you. I gently encourage, and, if need be, mentor. I think you would agree that reviewing is a job that some are not quite up to doing, and doing it well.

Thank you for your insightful words,

Crow

Review of In Which I Obey
Review by Crow

This is a very interesting poem indeed. I have not the slightest doubt that every word and feeling is true. Although society as a whole would not like to admit it, people with disabilities are often seen as second class citizens, looked at strangely, or in some other way shunned. I too have a disability. It is a neurological disorder that causes tremors of the hands. I use to try and hide it from people. These days I look them square in the face and say this is what I have, so lets not play silly games.

I thought your poem was well written and heartfelt. Well done.

Welcome, Melody. It's good to have you in this writing community. I read both of your pieces and I like the way your mind works. Very often a great deal can be said in a few words. I often have an idea that simply washes over me and within five minutes I have put it to paper.

Keep on writing and sharing the colors of the palate which is your mind.

I hope the two reviewers that went before me welcomed you to your writing community. If not, WELCOME! Are you a person who loves to write? Do you consider yourself a writer? From what I just read, you sound like a poet to me.

This was a wonderful heartfelt piece that reveals the depth of a parent's love. The beautiful language of the poem sets it off from the pack. Wonderful imagery is the hallmark of fine poetry and you deliver on all counts. This is fine writing. I hope to hear more from you.

May God protect your daughter and all those who serve our country.

Review of CORRUPTION
Review by Crow
Rated: E | (4.5)
Hello, anonymous, and welcome to your new writing community. I hope you will stick around an let us get to know you and your work.

You might consider corruption as something not only in the extraneous but as internal. Mankind is corrupt from the inward out.
The Bible says that the heart of man is exceedingly wicked and impossible to disentangle with his nature. As a dog will return to lick his own vomit, so is man in his determination to seek out wicked means.

You made some good points. Maybe you should consider an expansion of the subject. It could be very interesting.

Review of Mittens

Hello, JJ. As they say, one good turn deserves another. I'll be sending you a big thank you for reviewing CHEAP-O-AIR, but I thought I would stop by your port first. 'Mittens' caught my eye because I love cats and have lost five over the past years. It was always like a punch in the gut when their time came. Mittens was a pretty kitty. I can just imagine watching her play with the rubber band.

I'm sorry for your loss. I'll be checking out more of your work soon.

Review of Depression
Review by Crow
Rated: E | (5.0)
There is no doubt that you are in a particularly difficult situation. I have had a problem with depression for years. I take medication to control it, but it is always there lurking in the shadows. I am an avid reader and writer. I also exercise when the whether allows. Of course, not knowing the first thing about you except for your depression, it is very difficult to say what would help. The question is, what are you doing to help yourself? You certainly need to be doing something. If writing is a hit and miss affair, then there must be another release valve, one that is consistent and one that you love. Remember that there are three major contributors to serious depression: 1. Lack of self-worth. 2. Lack of intimacy with others. 3. Lack of intimacy with God.

Write me anytime if you need a sounding board, and put as much effort as you can muster into your writing. And, by the way, welcome to Writing.com. This is a place filled with caring people.

Hello, Joey. We are both from the same generation, although I am just a tad older. I often drop by ports to get a feel for who I am reviewing. You have done very well In your years at WDC. Well done.

I felt that this information on magic could be very useful. I am an amateur historian and researcher and found your information very informative. I don't happen to be into the fantasy genre but I found this piece to be quite fascinating. It's going into my favorites for future reference. I may very well have to refer to it at some time for a piece I'm writing.

Your information is well laid out detailed. You certainly know your magic. I found it all of great interest.
