New Orleans Nocturnal

In the city of New Orleans
There’s a sun that never sets
And palm trees in the mangroves
That bend but do not break
And it’s in the shallow waters
Where all the alligators sleep
Be careful when you’re barefoot
Whilst walking in the lake

New Orleans city centre
Red clouds streak across the sky
A night sky swallowed up by stars
Whilst an amber moon does creep
Alligators move into deep waters
With their crocodile tears
A cold and tactless picture
With a heart that runs so deep
